Brake Controller Installation on a 1993 Ford F-250 with 6-Way Trailer Connector

I have a 1993 ford f250 that I pull a 27foot travel trailer with,how do I know if the 6 prong on the back of the truck is wired to install a brake controller for my trailer? and if its not what do I need to get that installed?

If the trailer connector on your 1993 Ford F-250 is a factory installed connector then the truck should have the wiring already run for a brake controller. A brake controller would plug into the truck to the connector that is under the dash around the steering column. It is a 4-pin connector with a mating end that will fit onto # 20262.
To test if the brake output wire goes from that connector to the trailer connector at the back you can perform a simple test. Using a separate 12-volt battery you would apply power to the brake output pin on the rear trailer connector. Then use a circuit tester such as # PTW2993 to test that connector under the dash.
More than one pin could have power though so you will need a helper to apply power at the rear and take it away. Repeat that while you are testing the connector under the dash to determine if that wire does indeed go all the way back.
If the trailer connector is not factory then you would need to hardwire in the brake controller using installation kit # 5506. The black wire connects to the positive battery terminal via the 30 amp circuit breaker included with the kit, white goes to the negative battery terminal, blue goes to the brake pin on the rear trailer connector, and red is input from the brake switch.
