Trailer Hitch and Wiring for a 1999 BMW 323i Sedan

Updated 08/31/2015 | Published 08/29/2015

Question:

Hi, Im trying to figure out which hitch will fit my car. I believe I figured it out but want to confirm it with you. I have a 1999 BMW 323I series 3 sedan. The one I believe is the one I will need and has a T near the top and the bottom. Can you please tell me if this is right? Thanks for your help. Also is there a video showing how to install? I saw one for the BMW coupe.

The only trailer hitch for the 1999 BMW 3-series sedan is going to be Curt hitch # C11174. I have included a link to a video showing an example installation of this hitch for you.

If you want to use the hitch for an accessory such as a bike rack or cargo carrier then you have to make sure the accessory is rated for use with a Class I trailer hitch. Also, with a bike rack, you are limited to 2 bikes maximum on a Class I hitch.

Curt also says you have to use stabilization strap # 18050 when using this hitch for any non-trailer load (such as a bike rack or cargo carrier) per their warranty requirements.

If you need to do some light duty towing then the correct ball mount to use with the hitch and vehicle is # C45510. For a 1-7/8 inch ball use # 19256 and for a 2 inch ball use # 19258. And for trailer wiring use # C59496.
