Question:

I would like to order the dual hitch extender to mount my Thule bike rack, but also would need the Hitch Receiver Adapter to the receiver to 1 1/4inch . Can I use these two items together?

Expert Reply:

I do not recommend using an adapter inside of another adapter because it creates too many points of movement. Also the use of an adapter such as # MPG544 will reduce the tongue weight capacity of the trailer hitch by 50 percent.

Which Thule bike carrier to you have and how much extension do you need. I am assuming you need to clear a spare tire or something else on the back of your 2006 Hummer H3.

If you used just the reducer sleeve, # HT02, you would not suffer a tongue weight capacity loss and would get about 3 inches more clearance. I have included a link to a video review of the reducer sleeve for you.
