Constant Voltage on Curt Trailer Wiring Harness Running Light Circuit on 2013 Subaru Outback
Updated 08/05/2015 | Published 08/04/2015 >
Question:
2013 Subaru Outback I installed the Curt adapter last Fall and everything worked fine. This summer I noticed that my trailer running lights do not work. Brake/turn lights still work fine. When I checked the brown trailer light wire pin from the vehicle I now have a continuous approximate 8 volts on the pin at all times. This is the case whether the vehicle lights are on or not. I have plugged my connector into two different trailers with the same results. Any ideas on this fault? My gut feel is its something in the power module but I dont know.

It does sound like there is a short or other problem inside the converter box of Curt trailer wiring harness # C56040. The only fix is to replace the harness with a new one on your 2013 Subaru Outback. I recommend the Tow Ready harness # 118467 because we hear about less issues with them. I have included a link to a video showing an example installation.
