The trailer you're wanting to tow will dictate what trailer connector is needed. If your trailer has electric brakes, you'll need to install a brake controller to actuate them.

If the trailer has a 4-pole connector, and doesn't have brakes, you won't need a brake controller. If the Flex has a 4-pole connector, simply plug the trailer into it, and you'll be good to go. If your vehicle doesn't have the 4-pole, you can easily install on using part # 118472.

If your Flex is equipped with the factory 7-way trailer connector at the rear bumper and the trailer has brakes, installing a brake controller will be simple. You'll need the # 22292 brake controller wiring harness, as well as a brake controller. The Tekonsha Prodigy P3 you referenced, part # 90195 would be an excellent, easy to use choice. Once end of the harness would plug into the rear of the controller, the other would plug into the connector located under the dash right below the steering column (see provided photo.)

If the trailer has brakes and the vehicle doesn't have a trailer connector, you'd first install the # 118472 to provide a functional 4-pole. You'd then use our Brake Controller Installation Kit, part # ETBC7. I've provided a link to the instructions for the kit. If your Flex does have a 4-pole, the adapter included in the kit would convert the 4-pole to a 7-way.
