Trailer Hitch Fit For 2016 Ford Escape

Question:
why did the change trailer hitch on 2015 to 2016 escape? Can you use 2015 hitch on 2016 Ford Escape? I have a lease vehicle and dont what to do any modifications.

Curt trailer hitch # C13186 will fit both a 2015 and 2016 Ford Escape. The hitch installation does require trimming of a heat shield under the vehicle.
No drilling is required but an access hole may need to be enlarged. I have included a link to a video showing an example installation for you.
