Is the Power Wire Needed When Installing Trailer Wiring on a 2011 Kia Sorento

Question:
Where is the best spot to run the black hot wire? Can it be run through the frame in any way? Will it work without the hot wire? Is there a wire that can be tapped into in the rear of the vehicle to bypass the hot wire?

Expert Reply:
The power wire can be ran to the vehicle battery in any number of ways. Usually under the vehicle along the frame using wire ties. Avoid any hot areas, pinch points and moving parts that could cause problems with the wire. If you can find an entry and exit for the vehicle frame you should be able to run the wire through the frame also.
The Curt Circuit Protected Vehicle Wiring Harness w/ 4 Pole Connector, item # C59236, should not be used without attaching the power wire to the vehicle battery through the included inline circuit breaker. Attaching the wire directly to the battery through a 10 amp fuse protects the sensitive wiring and components in the vehicle. Attaching to a 12 volt power circuit anywhere else would put the vehicle circuitry at risk.
