I just want to know what a pintle hitch is.

A pintle hitch is primarily used in heavy duty towing situations. The hitch itself resembles a hook that can be closed around the lunette ring that is mounted on the trailer. Part # C48210 is a good example of a pintle hook.
The pintle/lunette combination is typically used on construction or other heavy duty equipment.
