Does an RV/Trailer Approved Bike Carrier have to be Used with the Bike Bunk

Updated 06/17/2015 | Published 06/15/2015

Question:

My understanding is that your RV rating for bike racks are for mounting on the back of RVs. Is it necessary to purchase a bike rack that is approved for RV use when using it in conjunction with the Bike Bunk?

Yes, since the Bike Bunk # CC-275 mounts at the front of an A-Frame trailer you will still need to use a bike carrier approved for use on RVs and trailers. I have included a link to the options for you.

The bike bunk has a 100 pound capacity so I recommend going with the lightest compatible carrier. The lightest carrier that I have that is rated for trailer use is the 4-bike, Yakima LongHaul # Y02476. This rack weighs 32 pounds. Even though it can carry 4 bikes, you will be limited to carrying only 2 bikes that weigh under a total of 68 pounds to stay within the bike and weight capacity of the Bike Bunk.
