What are the Torque Specs for 1/2 Inch Lug Nuts on a 12 Inch Steel Trailer Wheel
Updated 06/11/2015 | Published 06/10/2015 >
Question:
How much torque is suggested for these power coat rim? Am I correct in assuming it REALLY matters with these vs. galvanized? I was always taught tight and just a little more, but I would hate to chip the coating and have them prematurely rust out. 80-90lbs too much?

Expert Reply:
For trailer tire and wheel combo # AM30660 you should torque each of the 1/2 inch lug nuts to 75-85 foot pounds. Whether it is a powdercoated steel wheel like on # AM30660 or a galvanized wheel of the same size, the torque specs would be the same. Galvanized is still steel and the galvanization process does not affect the torque specs.
