There isn't a brake controller wiring harness for the 1988 Chevy K1500 so the brake controller will need to be hardwired in. If the truck does not have any trailer connector at all then the first thing you would need is a 4-Way, # 118315 if it is NOT a crew cab or #HM41115 if it is a crew cab.
With the 4-Way installed (or if you already have a 4-Way) you would then need to install 4 and 7-Way installation kit # ETBC7. I have included some links that show and explain the ETBC7 installation.
If your truck already has a 7-Way trailer connector then you would just need wiring kit # 5506 and would follow the relevant parts for the ETBC7 instructions. The only other part you may need is pig tail harness # 20127 if your Activator is missing it.
