Rather than a new pin box which wouldn't increase the space between the tailgate and the front of the trailer, going with a fifth wheel tailgate which you can leave up while you're hitching sounds like a better alternative.
Stromberg Carlson also offers a black composite tailgate, part # VG-97-4000 or a steel tube tailgate, part # VG-97-100 that are less expensive choices.
