Question:
I purchased a Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness Part 56016 . Problem is, I think the Viking Popup Camper I want to buy on Tuesday has a round-type connect with 6 or 7 poles. Should I install a different part? Or, should I add an adapter to this one? And, if an adapter, which one, and can I tap into the hot line that goes to the control module to also feed the new connector? Thanks, Joe

The Curt T-Connector Harness, part # 56016 will give you the 4-way connector at the rear of your 2012 Mazda CX-9, and we have just the thing you need to get you the connector for your camper.
If you do not have brakes on your trailer and no brake controller is needed, you can install the Hopkins 4-Pole to 7-Pole and 4-Pole Adapter, part # 37185. This will give you a 7-way connector and 4-way connector. I have attached a link to an installation video for the # 37185 that does not involve a brake controller. The blue and purple wire on the harness is simply capped and not used.
If you find the trailer has a 6-way plug the adapter you will want is part # 37175. This will install in a similar manner as the # 37185. I have attached a link to a product review for this adapter you can take a look at.
If you have brakes on the trailer you will need part # ETBC7. The ETBC7 will give you a 7-way connector for your trailer and also a 4-way connector at the rear of your CX-9. I have attached a helpful article that explains how this is installed.
If the trailer has electric brakes you will need a brake controller. I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Brake Controller, part # 90885 because it is easy to install and operate.
When working with electrical connectors I recommend using dielectric grease like part # 11755. This keeps dirt and moisture out of the electrical connections and helps prevent corrosion.
