Should There be Play Between the Pro Series Adjustable-Channel Coupler # PSA256S0303 and Channel

Question:
Should the adjustable trailer coupler be loose inside the channel once the bolts are tightened? Is it made to have a little bit of play or should washers be used so that the coupler will not move when tightened? Thank you.

To get the full capacity of the Pro Series Adjustable-Channel Coupler # PSA256S0303 there shouldn't be any space between the coupler and the channel like the part # BDAC5000300.
You can either torque the coupler down more to take up that gap if that is reasonable, or you can use washers like you referenced.
