I need a wireing diagram to hook up a electric trailer brake controller to a 1986 motor home on a p30 chassis.

Brake controllers are not vehicle specific items so there are not diagrams available for individual vehicles. We do have a help page on installing brake controllers that will walk you through the process, but I will briefly run through the process to give you an idea of what has to be done.

Most brake controllers have 4-Wires, typically they are: blue, black, red and white. The white wire is a ground, so it needs to be connected to any solid ground point. The red wire is the stop light circuit. This wire is connected to the wire on the brake pedal switch that goes hot when the pedal is pressed. The black wire is for power and should be connected to the positive terminal on the battery. You will also need to wire a circuit breaker in-line with this wire. You will use either a 20 or 30 amp breaker, part # 9506P or part # 38630, depending on the model of brake controller you have. Finally the blue wire is the brake output that should be run back to the trailer connector on the circuit that the trailer brake magnets are wired to.
