Most ball mounts have just 1 layer of paint or powder coat to protect them from the outside world. Scratch this away after towing just a couple times, and the raw metal underneath will start to rust before you know it. Some folks take pride in that rusty, worn-in look. After all, rust is proof that you've had plenty of road-worn adventures.
But we prefer something that works hard and looks like it's barely broken a sweat. That's why we added a layer of e-coat underneath the matte black powder coat to give you an extra layer of rust protection. So while others might be driving around with a flaking, rusted-out hitch, yours will be looking great for the long haul.
Quick Tip: As for the hitch ball itself, if you really want to make sure that black nickel stays looking fresh for longer, we suggest greasing it up before you tow.

How's it going, neighbors This is Ed here with etrailer.com, and we're taking a look at the Etrailer 2 5/6 Ball Mount Kit. Now, our kit is gonna have three different items that you're gonna get all together bundled. You're gonna have your two-inch receiver cover as well as our water-resistant bag and your 2 5/16 pre-torqued etrailer ball. So let's take a look at each one of these items and see what's special about 'em. Your receiver cover is gonna work for your two-inch shank. It'll just push right into position.
It's black rubber, and it just has our etrailer logo. And on the back of your vehicle, people will know that you know where to find the best towing supplies. Now, the inside of this guy is gonna have a couple ridges that are gonna hold against the inside of that receiver to keep water and moisture from building up inside your receiver when you're not towing. Our ball mount is a two-inch drop and 3/4-inch rise. You're gonna have the black nickel finish on the ball itself as well as the pin and clip.
As far as the ball mount is made of steel, you're gonna actually have a hollow core. However, actually the steel that they use on this is pre-treated with an e-coat underneath. So what that means, when you start getting these little nicks and cuts in the powder coat that you're bound to get, just from the life of being a ball mount, you don't have to worry about sections of the powder coat flaking off due to rust underneath it. In general, it's a pretty thick coat. And I would say, the only thing I usually suggest with ball mounts is adding ball grease to keep this black nickel finish looking nice.
If you don't use a lubricant at this pivot point, safety's really not affected, but just the appearance of your ball. Alright, and we also have our etrailer water-resistant bag. It is 10 liters and durable enough to put in your towing accessories when you're not towing. I would say, with it being water-resistant, you can throw in safety flares, bungee cords, anything that would fit in this space to keep everything nice and together. Now, overall, I think it's a great value to get these things together and it'll keep you prepared when you're going out on your adventures.
Again, this is Ed with etrailer.com, and this has been a look at the Etrailer Ball Mount Kit. Have a great day.
