Radial Tires vs. Bias Tires

Radial tire vs bias tire graphic

Radial ply tires are designed for trailers that are towed on the highway. The cords on a radial tire are positioned at a 90-degree angle to the direction of travel so that they lay across the width of the tire from wheel lip to wheel lip. This construction prevents the cords from rubbing against one another when the tire flexes, unlike the cords on a bias ply tire. As a result, radial tires have less rolling resistance and heat buildup, which leads to a longer tread life and improved steering at higher speeds.

  • Can 15" x 6" Wheels Be Used to Replace 15" x 5" Wheels
Arlin, don't worry - those two wheels are virtually interchangeable. The 15" x 6" like # AM20522 is only ~1/2" wider than the 15" x 5" wheels like # AM20422 that you currently use, so the difference is negligible. If there is anything else I can help you with feel free to leave a comment below and I'd be happy to help!

  • Possible Replacements for 5.75 x 15 and 8.75 x 16 Trailer Tires for Boat Trailer
The LT on your tires stands for "Light Truck" and while there aren't any specific replacements for 5.75 x 15 tires, what that size means is you have 15 inch diameter wheels and tires that are 5.75 inches wide. The closest we offer to that size is a 205/75-15, which is for 15 inch diameter wheels and are 8 inches wide. You may need new wheels as well because these tires are designed to fit 15" x 5", 15" x 5-1/2", 15" x 6", and 15" x 6-1/2" wheels. The option we have with the highest load...

  • Comparing the Karrier KE93KV & the Karrier AM10245 Trailer Tires
Hey Chris, the Karrier # KE93KV and the Karrier # AM10245 are both really similar, with the only real differences being the section width on the Karrier # KE93KV being narrower than the Karrier # AM10245, and the Karrier # KE93KV has a 5 rib design as well as a Silica infused tread and sipe angles to help reduce hydroplaning. The Karrier # KE93KV also does pretty good in off-road applications, should you ever have to go off-road. So I would say, if you plan at all to be off the road,...

  • Can Trailer Tire Size 205/75-15 be Replaced with 225/75-15
When trying to upgrade to different sized tires, you will need to be aware of both width and height clearances between the new tire size and your trailer. A trailer tire sized 205/75-15, like # AM10245, will have a diameter of almost 27-5/16 inches and a width of a little over 8 inches. A tire sized 225/75-15, like # LHWL304, will have a width at almost 9 inches and diameter that is almost 28-13/32 inches. The new tire will be almost an 1 inch wider and 1 inch taller than your current...

Hello Manuel, thanks for reaching out. We do carry the ST205/75R15 tires, but nothing with a 16 py rating. The highest ply rating we have would be a load range D which is 8 ply rated. For example, the Karrier ST205/75R15 KR03 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range D # AM10245 has an 8 ply rating. The weight rating is 2,200 lbs at 65 PSI. Would something like this work for you?

  • Best Trailer Tire Recommendation for Size ST205/75-15
The best tire for your trailer in the same size that you have is the part # AM10245. This is the highest capacity tire we offer in that size. It is a Load Range D with 2,150 lbs at 65 psi capacity. Your current tire is a bias-ply. I can tell by the letter D in the size. The # AM10245 is a radial which will be a better overall tire. A radial tire flexes more than a bias tire, giving it better ground contact, traction, stability, and tread wear. A radial tire will normally run cooler...

  • Can I Put Larger Tires On My Cargo Trailer Without Having To Modify Anything?
Thanks for reaching out, Rudy. It may be possible to put larger tires on your cargo trailer. The main thing to consider here is the clearance. Our rule of thumb is that you want at least 3" between the tire and the fender, and at least 1" between the inside of the tire and the frame of the trailer. The typical ST205/75R15 trailer tire like the Kenda # AM10245 is 8.1" wide and 27.3" in diameter. If we go to the next size up, the ST225/75R15 like the Kenda # AM10303, they are 8.9" wide...

When we do not indicate a specific speed rating for a trailer tire or wheel/tire item this simply means that the product has a nominal 65-mph speed rating. Kenda Karrier ST205/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire # AM10245 is rated for the nominal 65-mph speed so we do not call that out. The same-size Provider ST205/75R15 Radial Trailer...

This is a difference of 2.7 inches, meaning that the larger tire size will be 1.35 inches closer to the fenders. But you also have to worry about the extra width. A 185 has a section width of 7.2 inches. A 205 has a section width of 8.1 inches. This means that the larger size will be nearly a full inch closer to the trailer frame.
