Snowplow Installation

Push Frame

Installation is quick and simple - just slide included shank assembly into your 2" receiver and secure with pin.

Snap Pins

Then lift the blade, one end at a time, onto the frame's holders and fasten with snap pins.

Plow blade showing 3-point directions

The SnowSport HD blade is mounted on an angled, 3-position shank assembly, allowing you to plow to the left, to the right or straight ahead.

How to Plow

Plow

To plow, lower the blade and begin driving; no wiring or hydraulics are needed. The unique push frame on the shank assembly allows the blade to move along the grade of the terrain for easier, more efficient plowing. The heavy-duty rubber cutting edge is effective yet turf friendly, collecting snow and squeegeeing slush without digging into the ground.

Reverse

When you reverse direction, the blade lies back, skimming over the surface of the ground so that you can easily take another pass.

Backing Up

Once you're finished plowing, just lift the blade and refasten into the travel position. The blade is secure enough to travel at highway speeds, and the low-profile design keeps it from blocking your vehicle's headlights. Removal for storage is quick and easy. The plow can be used on the rear of your vehicle, making it a cinch to back out of your snow-packed driveway.

Video Transcript for Curt Front Mount Trailer Hitch Installation - 2017 Nissan Frontier

Shane: Hey guys, Shane here with etrailer.com. Today I have a 2017 Nissan Frontier, and I want to walk through how to install the CURT front mount trailer hitch. Front mount trailer hitch can be used for a lot of different things. This vehicle it actually has kayak carriers on the top, they have a very large ball mount on the back, it looks like it's used for weight distribution for pulling a camper. So there's really not a whole lot of extra room back there. So, maybe they want to take bikes with them, this is going to allow them to put a bike rack on the front.

You can also use it to put a spare tire on it, you can use it for a winch, you can also use it for a ball mount if you want to maneuver a trailer into a tight spot. So again, can be used for a lot of different purposes. It's just going to be a steel construction, black powder coat finish, so it's really going to help resist any rust or corrosion, stay looking nice on the vehicle for a long time. It's going to have a two inch by two inch receiver tube opening so, it's going to give you a lot of different options for hitch mount accessories. Hitch pin hole which is going to be here, it's going to be 5/8 inch in diameter. Take a standard 5/8 hitch pin, it does not come with a hitch pin and clip, however it can be found here etrailer.com.We come over here to the side, this is going to be our tow hook or our safety chain loop.

You can see a very large opening it's going to fit a lot of different size safety chain hooks. Also, we've been able to use this as a straight line pull, maybe we would want to pull somebody out that's stuck in a ditch. Gives us a lot of room we can run a large tow strap through there, through each one of them to connect to the vehicle to help them out of that situation. Now I'm going to give you a few measurements and weight ratings to help you when deciding on any of your hitch mount accessories like your bike racks, ball mounts, cargo carriers, or even winches. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outermost part of our bumper is going to be about seven inches. So if we're putting a cargo carrier on there, bike rack, we want to make sure when it is folded up, it's not going to make contact with the vehicle.

From the ground to the top innermost part of the receiver tube it's going to be about 12 inches. Keep that number in mind for any of those hitch mount accessories that may require a little bit more ground clearance. As far as weight capacities go, we're going to have three of them. 350 pound max tongue weight, which is the downward pressure on the inside of the receiver tube. That's going to be a vertical load limit. So when you're putting your bike rack on, cargo carrier or any trailer that has a significant amount of weight that you may be maneuvering, you want to make sure you're not exceeding that downward pressure.

We're going to have a 3,500 pound gross trailer weight, which is the trailer plus the load included. You can also use this, it's going to have a 9,000 pound straight line pull. So if we want to put a winch on there again, wanting to winch somebody out of a bad situation, 9,000 pounds, always check with the owner's manual to make sure the vehicle can withstand that amount of weight inaudible 00:02:55 between the vehicle and the hitch. Now that we've gone over some of the features, let's walk you through how to get it installed. To start our installation, we need to remove this lower center section of our air dam. We're going to use a 10 millimeter socket. Air dam down and we'll set it aside for now. We're going to take an 11/16 socket, we're going to remove our tow hook. Tow hook will not be re-installed. If you have two of them, you will also need to remove the other one. Now the next set of hands, we're going to lift that hitch into place. We're going to install it into the same weld nuts in our frame rail where our tow hook was. You're going to have four hex bolts, you're going to put on a lock washer and a flat washer. We'll get a bolt in on each side to hold our hitch up so we can install our remaining hardware. Then we're going to take a 3/4 inch socket, we're going to tighten, and then torque all of our hardware to the specifications in the instructions. Your instructions are going to tell you not to put your air dam back in place, however, if you follow my markings in how I cut it out, it'll allow you to put this back in place to fill in some of that open area.So once you get it cut out, we can slide it right over top of our hitch like that and get it reinstalled. Once you've got your air dam reinstalled, you're ready to go. That's going to do it for a look at installation on the CURT front mount trailer hitch on our 2017 Nissan Frontier.

I had the same issue most have with this item. The frame mount was too narrow, and mounting holes didn't line up. I had to use the Jack method to spread the mounting rails to fit.
After that it's awesome. I love this front hitch receiver on my truck, its very versatile.

If you are having troubles with the mount being too narrow and the holes not lining up, it could be that the hitch has been flexed during shipment. This is common amongst hitches, since the mounting brackets are made from a mild steel that allows the hitch to flex with the vehicle after installation. If the entire hitch was made of rigid steel, there would be a greater chance of the hitch being damaged and experiencing stress cracks. Such cracks could cause the hitch to malfunction. This flexing often times will cause the holes not to align. Because of this we do have a help article I have the link attached below that will walk you through the process of straightening the hitch.

I got this Class II front hitch for my 2016 Nissan Frontier to help me back a small trailer into a tight space. It arrived in good condition with complete instructions and good quality hardware. When I tried to bolt the hitch on, I found the 1/4" plate brackets were 3/8" too narrow to match up with the holes in the Frontier's frame. Michelle at ETrailer gave me some good advice on how to spread the brackets with a hydraulic jack and bingo, the hitch fits and looks great! BTW, the ground clearance is still around 9 1/2".

Curtis "Front Mount Trailer Hitch" ordered for 2017 Nissan Frontier (Crew Cab-4x4).
Excellent product quality, quick delivery, and follow up customer service. Hitch as advertised. As several other reviewers have mentioned, the front mount trailer hitch holes do not line up exactly with the truck frame holes so a bit of manhandling is required to get the bolts installed properly. I needed to be able to push my boat/trailer up my driveway, around a corner, and into the garage. Works better than I expected; very satisfied.

Still all good. Works and fits my truck better than expected.

Hitch is doing what it's supposed to do but 1 year in and rust is already starting. Otherwise it's good. I use it for mounting a plow

The service from etrailer was excellent! The only issue I had was I had to spread the flanges out about a 1/2 inch with a hydraulic jack to make the hole spread correct. This would be a manufacturer issue not the distributor. In the end I was able to install, and it works well with my home plow.

It sounds like your hitch may have been flexed during shipping. This can happen because the hitch is designed to flex with your vehicle once installed.

Well, I had the same issues as everyone else with this front mount hitch. when i went to mount the hitch the bolt holes would not line up. Most everyone else have been taking a file or something to widen the holes to make it work... but in doing that it makes the bolt head too lose to the bracket and cant get a socket on. so what i did, I got a 4x4 block of wood and a bottle jack to spread the mounting bracket apart. I had to spread the bracket about 3/8 inch. after that the holes lined up perfect..

Other then that issue, the hitch seems to be strong, thick and has good welds.

etrailer.com is excellent!! I've purchased several items from them. always fast shipping and been very happy. I will continue to purchase from them.

The front receiver for my Nissan truck fit well and was easy to install.

by: Julio07/17/2022

Don’t get me wrong it’s a great product. But in my case the hole needed to be shave and the side plate needed to in 90 degrees to fit in my frontier 2018.

by: Jim Richardson02/13/2015
2013 NissanFrontier

The distance between the flange bolt holes was too short. I had to use a hydraulic jack and 2 X 4's to spread the flanges to obtain the proper distance.
It's on and looks great. I am glad I didn't have to drill our any holes.

Ordered my front trailer hitch about a year ago. I use it for my surf fishing rod holder/equipment basket. Driving on the beach it's nice to have your rods and bait cooler in the front.
I tried to install it myself, but the holes didn't line up exactly. Took it to a shop and they put it on for me without much difficulty. Took them 20 minutes. No drilling involved....they were just strong enough to feed the bolts through the holes well enough to mount the hitch.
I'd buy this again.

Snowsport PlowEtrailer.com does it right from start to finish. On top of having a great web site, the staff are the best.
Keeping in mind, I ordered this in December, about 5 days before our first big snow, here in Ohio. Within an hour of ordering my SnowSport HD plow, I was upgraded to special priority shipping, that was a nice surprise! The plow arrived in about two days, in three boxes, as I ordered the front hitch at the same time. I feel bad for my UPS carrier, these boxes were not for the faint of heart. The assembly went smoothly, the manufacturer uses high end parts and everything is well marked and the instructions are easy to follow. I estimate it took me two hours to get everything put together, with a coffee break in between. I am impressed with the construction, wow. Heavy duty is right!
We had four inches of snow yesterday. I opened the garage door and went to work, two pushes to clear the parking spots, and one easy push down the two hundred foot gravel driveway. Like butter.
I was done. It took less then 15 minutes. I put this blade on my 2003 rear wheel drive, not 4x4, Chevy Blazer. I backed into the garage and it looked like I had just put the blade on, this blade could last a long time. I love it. I cant wait until we get a foot or more of snow, my wife wants to plow next time. Plus I have cable chains comming from Etrailer, they should be here any day. Just in case my two wheel drive has tracktion problems in the deeper snow. Thanks a bunch, Etrailer!

I bought this front hitch for my 2018 Nissan Frontier. The video looked pretty straight forward but after numerous tries the holes to mount the hitch were slightly off. After a year I finally took it to a mechanic to help me install it. We could not use the large washers that came with the bolts because we needed the extra space to get the bolts into the holes. Even then, to get the last bolt in, it took one person using a pry bar to help line up the hole while another person got the bolt in. I’m not sure if the hitch got slightly damaged during shipping. The holes to bolt to the truck frame were off about an eighth of an inch. In the end the hitch is mounted but wasn’t as easy as the video showed.

by: Jeff11/08/2022

Great customer service, poor fitment of hitch. Purchased hitch for 2019 Frontier with no body damage. The four mounting holes to attach the hitch to the truck frame were drilled at an diagonal angle. I had to expand them with a carbide bit-30 plus minutes. Hitch holes still did not line up with frame. I then stood the hitch up on its end, and used a lot of cribbing and a 10 ton bottle jack to expand the distance between the mounting arms a 1/4 inch to allow it to line up with the weld nuts in the trucks frame. Definitely not a 40 minute job like it states on the web site. Hitch is now mounted, but it was an effort to get it there.

2011 Honda Ridgeline

We installed this on our 2011 Honda Ridgeline and a week later it snowed... And snowed.... And snowed.. 5 feet in 24 hours ( we live on the lake near Buffalo) and it's still snowing... This wasn't good, it was AWESOME! It was an easy install and assembly and worked absolutely perfect! We have a tough driveway and this kept it clear with no issues, no problems and we used it all day and night! When you spend that much on something you've never even seen before you can have reservations... It's worth every penny. It's solid ( more than we thought it would be) and does the job with ease. No .. It's good, but...... It's exactly as advertised and etrailer not only had the best price, the communication with my order was exceptional. Now... If only the town could send a plow down my street.....

i placed this on my truck a year ago with a 9 ton winch on it i’ve pulled several stuck tractors on lots of 18” diameter trees and haven’t had a single issue with it. i will say that i need a lift kit on my truck because some side walks and what not are a little high and i do scrap the bottom of it. but it holding up well

2011 Nissan Xterra

I had a few hiccups while assembling (over tightening things early, I think) but once I got it together it’s been awesome. Clears easily and efficiently. Have used to clear as much as 14” of snow (that required pushing off to the side more often) but once you get used to the technique this thing is a lifesaver. I can clear a 300’ long driveway in 15 minutes or so for an average 4-5” snowfall.

by: James J. 2014 Honda Pilot01/25/2018
2014 Honda Pilot

It arrived in about 3 days, in 3 packages. I researched online extensively before choosing the SnowSport HD. Price at etrailer was about 10% cheaper than other sites. I already had the front hitch on my 2014 Honda Pilot, so all I had to do was assemble the plow and go play.

I had watched multiple videos of using and assembling the product, before ordering. All the time shoveling my driveway with a shovel as I had to get in and out and keep the driveway, ice free for visitors.

Everything was in the boxes, not a single bolt or washer missing. Assembly was as simple as I expected. I completed assembly without assistance in about 90 minutes, at a normal pace. Neither my cordless (nor corded) drill would screw the 3/8 self tapping screws to connect the two blade pieces, but it was not difficult to do them with a ratchet.

I set the height correctly for the front hitch, and I have a 6 inch hitch drop/riser that that should give me good plowing with the back hitch (have not tested yet, but expect good results)

The design is very well thought out, it is a quality product that will probably last the rest of my life (home use). I recommend it to others, and I would buy it again.

I ordered the plow as we finished getting about 10 inches of snow over a couple of days. The temperature stayed below freezing and there was still about 6 inches of snow to play in, when I had the plow mounted. Based on some reviews I had concerns that it might not do well, pushing piles of snow, or the snow that had been sitting for days. I was pleasantly surprised to be pushing even snow the city snow plow had mounded in front of the neighbors driveway. I plowed the neighbors from the street and about 80 feet in, without difficulty, three passes in a couple minutes and the job was done.

I live in a 1950s ranch home, with a single car garage (in basement) near Pittsburgh PA, my Honda Pilot fits in the garage with just inches to spare going through the door. The 7 foot blade is just a little narrower than the side view mirrors. So I can drive in and out. I have the blade and mount in the garage, and they are light enough that I can mount the blade front or back while in the warm garage and drive out to plow snow. Pull back in the garage, remove the blade and drive into to town to go to the office for work.

I am so excited to have this plow that, it probably will not snow more then a trace for a couple of years... Fate denying me the opportunity to play with it for a long time.

Ford Edge

It does what it's supposed to do, puts the snow from my driveways into piles not on my driveways. Got it over some of the other variations because it doesn't have electronics or wiring to break when its -30.

-Cutting edge that came with mine has been decently strong for running on gravel driveways.
-Light enough I can mount/unmount whenever I need to.
-Doesn't tear up lawns, which is where I have to push most of the snow I move.

--Needs a through eyebolt for quick connect back dragging rather than the ratchet strap idea they sell.
--Side panels are the weak link of the system
they cut in hard and make the plow jumpy while turning
the nubs on the back are also not deep enough to allow the plow to free stand when storing
and as hard as they are they get jammed right up with any sort of twig/leaf debris you might be plowing up
---I'll be replacing these with some sort of steel or aluminum panel with a tubing edge once they start to fail.
-- The sliding parts aren't powder coated so they'll need to be repainted every year or two or its going to rust right out.

Overall though it does what I wanted it to do, and paid for itself by saving me a lot of hours not having to shovel or snowblow. And even if my vehicle were ever to go down I could toss it on the back of another vehicle to get the snow moved.

by: DOUGLAS J. SMITH 06/11/2011

I have bought and installed 13 trailer hitches for myself and 3 for friends. Most of them were rear hitches but at least 3 were front hitches. I think they all came from E-trailer. Every one was a snap to install except this one which was a nightmare. I have a car lift in my high ceiling garage so getting under the vehicle is not a problem.
The distance between the mounts were too close so the washers supplied would not fit between the sholder and the holes and the bolts supplied were not long enough. After much frustration I ground the washers flat on one side and used bolts 1/2 " longer and was able to mount the hitch.

As always we were pleasantly surprised by the efficiency, knowledge and accommodating response from your company. Adam not only answered our questions about which front hitch would work for us, but he thoroughly handled the sale, shipping and follow-up tracking of it. This may seem minor, but neither U-Haul nor our mechanic were able to acquire the hitch despite several weeks of attempts. This hitch arrived within one week. Although we haven't had it mounted or tried it out yet, we have every confidence that it will work well.
This is the third product we have purchased from etrailer and we could not be more pleased. Thank you Adam and etrailer. You are a blessing.

by: John G01/25/2017

I installed the front hitch bar to expand the flexibility and uses for my truck. The hitch fit nicely with only minor adjustments. I was easily able to install the hitch by myself. I have two primary plans for the hitch: 1- Use a trailer ball to move two trailers I have around my work area with precision and less guessing by facing forward. 2- I have a front winch plate that can be added as needed to use a winch for those off road needs.
The staff at Etrailer were most helpful especially arranging a special delivery time to be sure I was home when it arrived.

2011 Honda Ridgeline

The shipments arrived within days of ordering. The snow sport HD had easy to follow instructions . The plow was put together without any problems.
I had my local mechanic install the front receiver for me on my 2011 Ridgeline.
A day after everything was set to go, we got about six inches of wet snow.
I used the plow and I was very happy with it’s performance. I was able to clear my driveway and my neighbors in very little time. Overall I think it is a simple but effective plow for homeowners.
