Secure, Two-Piece Jaw

Q20 Two-Piece Jaw

Unlike slide-bar models, the rounded, two-piece jaw on this fifth-wheel trailer hitch inhibits rattle and movement by securely wrapping around your trailer's king pin, resulting in easier hookup and a safer, quieter ride.

Three-Point Indicator System

Get peace of mind with Curt's color-coded lock indicator. Just look at the indicator - either the one on the handle or the one on the hitch itself - to determine whether the jaw is in the correct position to uncouple (red), couple (yellow) or tow (green).

Q20 Color Indicator System

360-Degree Pivot

Curt's unique spherical axial bearing provides a durable pivot point that allows easy, 360-degree movement of the hitch head. This ball joint is designed for smooth, quiet operation with less clunking and chucking.

2012 Ram 3500

2012 ram 3500 mega cab short bed! Well from all the reviews I’ve read, and the video, I gathered about 5-6 hours to install by myself, which was very accurate, directions say 90 min instal, not! It was the 5-6 hour range, regardless it went in as the directions and video said! Take your time measure it out double check everything, the kit is great, follow directions and watch the video you can do it in your driveway!

Takes a bit longer than expected. Figure in a day for the above bed install kit. I'll post back after I make a 2000 mile trip with the 40' RV. Have a great day everyone!

I bought a new trailer recently that weighs 16k and I just didn't feel secure using my Reese pro series 16k to Haul with. So I started looking at various hitches. I've had 3 other fifth wheel hitches in the past. All of them have been 15 and 16k models. What I never liked was the latching system. I've even had a trailer come out of the hitch due to a poor latching hook up. There wasn't an good way to lock the hitch. Some of it was my fault and some was a poor design. When I saw the Curt Q20 had a latch on the handle and also was color coded I was hooked. This hitch satisfied my want list. It arrived 4 days after I ordered it and like other comments I've read it was full of heavy duty staples. It was double packaged. There had to be over 50 staples. It was defiantly packaged securely. After dimantaling the packing I finally got to the hitch. There were a few scratches on the hitch from all the staples but a bit of black touch up paint took care of that. After all the hitch is going to be used and get scrached by me anyways. Four bolts and it was together. It fit perfictly it my existing rails. By the way it's heavier than my other hitches. I wound be apprehensive to pull my new trailer. If your looking for a great hitch at a great price you can't go wrong.

I had to customize some of the brackets to make them work on my truck. As well as add some spacers under the front rail so when it was tightened it would remain flat. The kit is usable if you have the ability to make it work. But when I buy something like this I expect it to go on without messing with it.

by: Richard P08/31/2016

Unlike other reviews...I will say that my packages all arrived in perfect condition. (Boxes were all intact). Assembling the Q20 is a breeze and by all appearances this hitch certainly seems to be more than adequate for my needs. I haven't had a chance to actually use it yet...but from what I can tell, I certainly don't expect any issues. I like the way the hitch latches and unlatches, and that you can add a lock to prevent someone from opening the jaws while you are parked somewhere. I think the only thing I'll add is a lock in place of one of the pins...just to make it difficult for someone to remove and steal the hitch.

This product has worked perfect for me using with my 2012 Wildcat Sterling 5th wheel. Customer service is the best at etrailer.com. Just love doing business with them!

by: Craig A.09/04/2017

I have just used the hitch on some very short pulls, nothing long yet. However, I can tell it is much quitter and does not seem to chuck as much as my old hitch. Appears to be very well built. Heavier than the old 15K hitch I had before. The only down I can find right now is that there is not a good place to hook up the emergency stop brake cable. I was able to rig up a connector that works just fine.

by: Richard03/16/2024

Arrived in the time identified, and all materials included. Box was damaged during shipping but packaged well enough that no damage occurred. Installed and got me out a jam caused by a height issue with original hitch installed by dealer causing the trailer to ride nose high. Leveled out and still maintaining the proper clearance between the bed and trailer.

I still have no complaints I have pulled my 35ft fifth wheel camper multiple times already and it did great. I have since recommended etrailer site to everybody I know that needs hitches. Thank you again for making it so easy to order and install!

by: Garry12/30/2023

Is difficult to get the jaws to lock- sometimes have to manually push one jaw to get it to spring closed. Any idea why?

by: Paul01/15/2022

Couldn't give it anymore stars after I took the hitch out of the box and it was all scratched up. Always good when you spend xxx on a hitch to receive it in that condition

by: Rich F.06/03/2017

Great hitch. Used several times. Love the way it comes apart into two pieces for ease of carrying when taking it out and putting it back in. Locks the trailer in tight too. Gets my trailer to were I want to with no problems.

by: Richard01/13/2018

Got my 5th wheel double boxed and in good shape. Took 2hrs to install outboard base rail kit. Everything finger tight. This Morning it took me 2hrs to drill the 4 center holes, I put 2 in the center on each rail, remove spare tire and torque everything down and replace spare tire.
The outboard base rail kit was a snap to install and I love the Curt Q20 with no floppy 5th wheel plate.

by: Michael05/27/2019
2011 Dodge Ram Pickup

This is a well put together package. The fact that you do not have to drill the frame makes things much easier. That said, it is still a lot of work and if you do not have all the tools needed and a lift you will be at this install for quiet some time.

The spare tire has to be removed and if there is a spare tire shield it will have to go as well. The inner fenders need to come out and at that point you will find it is easier if the tires and wheels are out of the way. It is a bit of work to get the right rear bracket in with the tail pipe in place. Also the spacers that go into the frame are also hard to get in place. Lastly, you will still have to drill holes in the bed.

With all this work required, I am very glad that I did not have to drill the frame also.

I placed my order on Tuesday evening and it arrived early Friday. Very fast shipping!!! The hitch installed easily using etrailer custom rail kit. Hitch itself seems way to use. Can't wait to pickup new camper next week! Thank you etrailer for such awesome service!!!

by: Daniel 01/02/2024

Easy installation and I loved the fact everything you needed came in a package deal!

by: Gary 12/28/2023

fair price. Simple installation.

by: Craig -07/25/2023

This product was easy to assembly. Very clear instructions and it took less then an hour to install. I was impressed with the packaging. The cardboard box the rails came in had steel inserts in the corners to keep the rails from breaking through. The box also had 1/8" plywood in the top and bottom for rigidity. It fit perfectly in the puck system in my Silverado. By purchasing it from "Etrailer" and installing it myself, I saved $1,600 by not having the RV Dealership install one for me. Only tools I needed was a socket wrench and a torque wrench.

2018 Dodge Ram Pickup

2005 Ram 2500 Quad Cab Short Bed. Xlnt kit, easy install. The installation instructions could have been better. I suggest watching the video on youtube and setting up the rails and hitch on the garage floor first. Take measurements between rail hole rows (row 2 to row 3 - 17 3/4") and add 3/4" for front bed support clearance - 18 1/2". Looking over a rear tire and measuring from the front bed support, My row 2 needed to be rear of center by 1/2". This puts my rear rail at 26 1/4 instead of 26 3/4" from the tailgate. Then everything lined up perfect. The fish wire provided really works great ( threads on to the bolt like a nut). My only problem was the spacer that gets fished with the carriage bolt was to wide for the large hole in my frame. I cut a 1/4" off the spacer and that was the only modification I made to this kit. Not all trucks are the same. XLNT kit, I was impressed !

This is a little confusing. Is the correct measurement 26 34 or 26 1/4 ??I installed a Curt rail kit a couple years ago. I do recall that if you use the instructiondimension...things line up better on a Dodge front rail if everything would have been about a 1/2 inch further rearward. Is there any way this can be clarified? I am starting on another install today. thanks.

The most current instructions for part # C16420 rail kit state that the measurement from end of bed to rear most edge of the rear rail is 26-3/4 inches on a 6 foot bed. Check out the instructions linked on the product page for more details and a couple of diagrams.

Excellent customer service and great pricing from e-trailer. The Q20 is an extremely heavy duty and well made hitch.

by: Bill03/10/2018

Bought the Q20 Curt hitch to replace the 16,000# Curt hitch we used for our previous 5th wheel trailer. The new trailer is heavier, so I wanted to upgrade. I like the Curt products and wanted to continue with them. The dual locking jaws were the real selling point.
etrailer and Lisa D are a joy to work with. We had a problem with another product and Lisa handled it perfectly and professionally.

by: Ralph10/16/2018

Just got back from a two-week road trip out west, the new trailer hitch performed without a snag! Easy docking and undocking, very nice to have a nice smooth ride. We are very impressed and thankful for an excellent product.
The package in which the hitch arrived was in pretty rough shape, but all the pieces arrived. There is one place on the deck itself where it took some scuffing of the paint from whatever it was banged on during shipping. We are going to have to touch up that place to keep it from rusting in the elements.
All in all, this was a great buy. Thanks

by: David 11/07/2019

Arrived on time with everything as promised. I have purchased multiple times from etrailer with outstanding results every time

This 5th wheel hitch was just 4 bolts to put together. Easy - peasy

Ask the Experts about this Fifth Wheel Hitch
Do you have a question about this Fifth Wheel Hitch?

  • Will a Sidewinder Replacement Pin Box Work with the Curt Q20 Fifth Wheel Hitch
  • The Curt Q20 Fifth Wheel Hitch, while an excellent fifth wheel trailer hitch with a locking jaw and 3 point indicator system, does not have a wedge available. We do not recommend using a sidewinder with a Q20 hitch because it is cushioned and the Sidewinder wedge wears out the rubber bushing in the hitch head. If your truck has an 8 foot bed, you could change out the sidewinder and keep the Curt Q5. If your truck bed is 6 foot or shorter, a sidewinder is a necessity, so in that case,

  • Curt Q20 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Head is Froze and Will Not Move
  • It sounds like the head might be seized where it pivots and moves. This can happen if the hitch is not lubricated according to the maintenance schedule in the manual/instructions. It can also occur if the hitch sustained any damage or was overloaded. I recommend taking the head off and looking for any signs of excessive wear such as scarring of the metal, bent parts, things like that. Then clean off any dirt and grease and follow the greasing information in the instructions. After everything

  • The Curt A20 # C16140 and Curt Q20 # C16130 are very similar 5th wheel hitches with the A20 being the more recent and improved version. The major difference is the A20 has interlocking jaws to further secure your king pin as opposed to the Q20 jaw locking system that do not interlock. This interlocking design is intended to give you more king pin contact on all sides for less jarring and chucking. If the Q20 you have now is working well for you but you want an improved version with a quieter

  • Use of Fixed-Type 5th Wheel Hitch on Short-Bed Truck
  • Usually a 2015 F-350 short-bed will require a sliding 5th wheel hitch for adequate turning clearance, but as you noted, some newer trailers have a tapered nose that makes tight turns possible without one. If you were to install a fixed hitch like the 20K-rated Curt Q20 # C16130 you'd of course be fine with this specific trailer and this is fine so as long as you have no intentions of changing trailers any time soon. But if you want the best compatibility in case of a change of trailers

  • The Curt Custom Fifth Wheel Installation Kit for Ram Truck - Carbide Finish # C16427-204 is not a fit for your truck it only fits 2014-present models. For your 2012 Ram 3500 dually long bed the similar system that is a confirmed fit is # C16420-204. This is a custom fit and I've attached a couple videos to assist. If you don't yet have a hitch, I recommend the Curt A25 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch - Dual Jaw - 25,000 lbs # C16180. This hitch is an easy to use option with significant capacity

  • 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch and Installation Kit for a 2011 Ram 2500 Mega Cab
  • There are several factors that lead to the proper 5th wheel trailer hitch for a truck. But first, you will need an installation kit for your 2011 Ram 2500. I recommend Curt custom installation fit # C16420-204. Custom kits require less drilling compared to universal and semi-custom kits and they install quicker. Next you would want to choose between a fixed 5th wheel hitch and a slider. If you have a short bed truck you will need a slider. If you have a long bed truck you will use a

  • Finish Difference Between the Curt Custom Install Kits for the 2012 Ram 3500
  • The difference between the Curt rails # C16420-204 and the # C16420-104 is in the finish of the rails. The # C16420-204 has a carbide finish which is more of a matte finish whereas the # C16420-104 has a gloss finish. Either will work fine for you, the choice comes down to which finish you would rather see in the bed of your 2012 Ram 3500 Laramie. These rail kits are confirmed to work with Reese hitches and should work well with your Reese 5th Wheel Hitch.

  • How to Tow 5th-Wheel Trailer with Dodge Ram that has B&W Turnoverball Gooseneck Hitch Installed
  • I do have a couple possible solutions for you, however a fifth wheel installation kit like the Curt # C16420-204 referenced in your question cannot be installed along with a gooseneck hitch as both systems will require the same mounting space on your Dodge Ram's frame. If you are needing to tow a 5th-wheel trailer with your B&W Gooseneck Hitch, I recommend looking at the B&W Companion # BWRVK3500-5W if you have an 8 foot bed or the # BWRVK3400-5W Slider if you have a 6 foot bed on your

  • Will Curt Fifth Wheel Rail Kit for 2008 Dodge Ram 2500 Fit Reese Slider Hitch
  • Yes, the Curt rails that come with the Fifth Wheel Rail kit part # C16420-204 are confirmed as a fit to work with Reese fifth wheel hitches like your Reese 18k slider. As long as your hitch isn't and Elite or Signature Series hitch like part # RP30144 which is designed to fit underbed pucks these rails would be all that you would need. If you do have an Elite style Reese hitch you would instead need the rail kit part # RP30074.

  • Rail Placement in 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 Short Bed for Pullrite SuperGlide ISR 5th Wheel Hitch
  • We do not carry the Pullrite SuperGlide hitch but the 2900 series will fit in industry standard rails which we do carry. For your 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 short bed the placement of the rails is going to depend on the kit used. For a custom installation kit you can use # C16420-204. From the rear edge of the truck bed (not the tailgate) measure forward 26-3/8 inches. This is where the back edge of the rear rail will be. Then you would use the hitch to position the front rail. For a semi-custom

  • Curt Q20 5th Wheel Hitch Jaws Do Not Close and Lock Freely On First Try
  • There are a couple of things that could be causing the hitch jaws not to close and or lock when they should. First make sure the handle is always fully extended and the jaws are open and ready to accept the king pin. The trailer skid plate should be 1/2 an inch lower that the hitch skid plate at its lowest point. If the jaws are out of sync or even if you suspect that they may not be lined up correctly here is what you can do. First make sure the flip lock is hanging freely in the clockwise,
