Hitch and Rail Kit Recommendation for a 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 Short Bed
Published 01/05/2015 >
Question:
5th Wheel slider hitch? 2006 Dodge Ram 2500, crew cab not mega, 6.5 foot bed. I have a 5 inch lift on the truck. Looking to buy a 5th wheel and need a hitch recommendation. The rear has 3inch blocks added to the stock ride height for the 5 inch lift on the truck. 5 on the front and 3 on the rear total. How much will this matter? Slider recommendation? Was looking at the Curt 16k/20 with the dodge rails. Thanks for your time.

Lifted trucks can make fifth wheel towing more difficult than stock ride height trucks. 5 inches of lift will most likely be pretty difficult for towing a fifth wheel trailer level and/or not having the bed rails of the truck get damaged.
If you plan on doing a lot of towing I would recommend you remove the lift kits so that you can tow your trailer easier. Unless your trailer sits abnormally high the lift kit might make it impossible to tow the trailer safely.
For fifth wheel rails you will want to go with a custom install kit that will minimize drilling and cut install time in half. For that I would recommend the part # C16420-204.
The 16 Slider Curt Hitch part # C16521 you referenced would be a great choice. If you needed more capacity the 20k version would be a great choice as well, part # C16541.
