LED Display

The LED display on the TriFlex is large and easy to read at a glance. It will show you what setting the brake controller is on as well as give you information for troubleshooting. You can adjust the screen brightness or trigger night mode so it won't glare obnoxiously on your dash.

To change any of the settings, press the silver mode button on the front of the brake controller and which mode you are currently on will show on the LED display. When you're on the setting you want to adjust, use the black rocker switch next to the mode button to adjust it up or down.

Gain Adjustment

Gain control lets you set the maximum amount of power that will be applied to your trailer's brakes, adjusting in increments of 0.5. How much braking output you need is determined by the weight of your trailer; a heavier trailer will need more power to bring it to a stop. You want to go as high as you can without the trailer brakes locking up. Typically, the gain is only readjusted when you experience changing road conditions or if the weight of your trailer changes. To get more power to your brakes, press the upper rocker switch. To decrease the gain, press the lower switch. When you make your adjustment, the gain setting will show on the LED screen for 10 seconds and then go into sleep mode.

Load Control

Once you have the gain set, you can fine-tune your braking by adjusting the load control on a scale of 1 to 9. This controls the aggressiveness of your trailer's braking, meaning how quickly the brakes reach the maximum braking level. Load control can get the braking power to your trailer faster and with more intensity so that it doesn't push your tow vehicle forward. If your vehicle takes too long to come to a stop, increase the setting by pressing the upper rocker switch. If it stops too abruptly, decrease the setting by pressing the lower switch. You can alter the setting to suit your driving preferences or to improve handling based on changing road conditions or varied trailer loads.

Pinch-Trigger Manual Override

The TriFlex comes with a easy-to-reach, pinch-trigger manual override, great for stopping sway or controlling your trailer's momentum in emergencies. To engage the manual override, just push in the trigger. This will activate the trailer's brakes and brake lights without you having to apply the brakes on your tow vehicle, perfect for limiting trailer movement while you're cruising.

Safety Features

The TriFlex offers key safety features to prevent damage to various components of your towing setup. This starts with built-in protection against shorts and positive and negative power reversal, as well as continous diagnostic checks to alert you to any potential problems as they come up. To minimize the drain on your vehicle's battery, the TriFlex will automatically go into sleep mode after 5 minutes of inactivity. Sleep mode will turn off again the moment you press the brake pedal.

Curt TriFlex NEXT

Quick Installation

Automatic leveling means you can mount the unit at any angle. Your mounting options are limitless, so long as you can still easily access the controller and the manual override. The included bracket is designed to mount the brake controller flush to the dash so it takes up almost no space at all.

If your vehicle already has a plug-in brake controller wiring harness, just connect the unit to it. Otherwise, you will need to purchase a vehicle-specific wiring harness (sold separately) to plug into. If a harness is unavailable for your vehicle, hardwiring will be necessary.

Note: If a custom brake control wiring adapter is not available for your vehicle, one of the following will be required:

20-Amp circuit breaker (9506P - sold separately) for 2- to 4-brake applications

30-Amp circuit breaker (38630 - sold separately) for 6- to 8-brake applications

See also etrailer.com's exclusive 7- and 4-way brake control installation kit (ETBC7 - sold separately) if you don't already have a 7-way plug at the back of your vehicle.

Proportional Braking

What is proportional Braking

The Curt TriFlex NEXT brake controller comes equipped with proportional braking to give you the best towing experience. Proportional braking means that your trailer brakes mimic your tow vehicle's brakes. If you slam on the brakes in your vehicle, your trailer brakes will activate with the same intensity; if you brake lightly, your trailer brakes lightly too. The trailer's braking is in proportion to your vehicle's braking. This saves wear and tear on the tires and the brakes on both your vehicle and trailer.

The TriFlex uses an internal 3-axis accelerometer to sense how your vehicle is braking so it can send the right amount of braking power to your trailer. It measures the inertia of your tow vehicle and activates the trailer's brakes to slow at the same rate. The result is uniform braking across your towing setup. No push-pull action - just smooth, proportional braking every time.

Curt Custom Wiring Adapter for Trailer Brake Controllers - Dual Plug In
part number: C51382

Install your Curt electric trailer brake controller quickly and easily with this custom wiring adapter. Simply plug one end of the adapter into your controller and then plug the other end into the built-in port beneath your vehicle's dash.

Features:

  • Plug-in wiring adapter allows for quick, simple installation of your electric trailer brake controller
  • No cutting or splicing required on most applications
    • Custom connector end plugs into the built-in port beneath the dash of your vehicle
    • Other end plugs into the back of your electric brake controller
  • Compatible with time-delayed and proportional brake controllers from Curt
    • Brake controller must have built-in plug for adapter to connect - will not work on controllers with pigtail wiring harnesses
  • 2' Long, 12-gauge wires have protective covering to deter damage
  • Limited 1-year warranty

Note: The factory brake controller plug on certain Nissan Titan XE models has a pin configuration that does not match up with this adapter plug. To install this adapter in those vehicles, hardwiring is required.

Installation of Curt Brake Controller Adapter

To install your Curt electric brake controller, you need to connect the wiring of the controller to your vehicle. Certain auto manufacturers offer pre-wired options, typically known as tow packages, wherein wiring is run for you from the dash to the trailer connector on the back of your vehicle. When this is done, a port is installed at your dash so that you can easily plug in a brake controller.

This adapter plugs into the port on your vehicle's built-in brake control wiring harness. The harness is located underneath the dash, to the left of the steering column, and it is taped to another harness near the emergency brake pedal.

No hardwiring is required to install this adapter in most vehicles. After you plug it into the factory port, you simply plug the other end of the adapter directly into your electric trailer brake controller. Because there are no wires to connect, installation is not permanent. You can unplug and remove your brake controller at any time to transfer it to another vehicle or securely stow it away.

Arrived as planed and was much smaller then my old clunky one. The custom cable harness was easy to install. Finding a flat spot to mount the controller took the longest to find the perfect spot. I gave a five stars because every was as it said. (Plug and play)

Nissan Armada

The Curt Echo is now on my Nissan Armada and works perfectly. It was an easy hookup with the supplied harness and does its job.

by: Loren 05/14/2024

Excellent product, easy installation just as described. Good quality as expected from E trailer.

by: Timothy04/22/2021

I've had the brake controller in use for over a year in my 2012 Nissan Frontier. The install was easy and took about an hour. My truck is a 2WD model so I mounted the controller in the plug that is used to select between 2WD and 4WD on vehicles equipped with 4WD. So the install look like factory.

by: Chris03/29/2024

The product I ordered was not available. There was a suggestion for another product, without the full knowledge that there are multiple other products, and I was only given one choice. It is what it is, if I knew of options, I would’ve made a different choice. Not a great company in terms of knowledge and service

by: bbells02/20/2024

Simple connection. FYI: On the 22-24 Nissan Frontier the plug-in is left of your left knee, above the kick panel. It is the larger of the 2 white connectors. No need to take kick panel off.

by: Adam 02/07/2024

The control works great. The reason for knocking off a star is that the control rattles whenever there is a vibration in the truck. While annoying, it doesn't affect the operation.

by: Dennis 02/11/2024

I have not used this device yet but I have installed it. It looks kool. I hope installation orientation doesn't matter too much.

  • Brake Controller Wiring Harness For 2008 Chevy Silverado
  • While there is a wiring harness for a brake controller on your 2008 Chevy Silverado, there is not a plug-in harness, it'll have to be hardwired. The wires are already run though, and I have added a link below to a help article which explains how. • What Is The Difference Between Proportional and Time Delayed Trailer Brake Controllers?
  • The Curt TriFlex NEXT Trailer Brake Controller # C24VV you are looking at is a proportional controller. This means when you press on the brakes the controller is going to have an inertia sensor which then factors in how quickly the vehicle is stopping and adjusts the amount of power going to the trailer brakes from your original setting. The easiest explanation I can give you is when you lightly press the brakes to slow down this controller will lessen the amount of power sent to the trailer

  • Troubleshooting Curt Tri-Flex Trailer Brake Controller C24VV Failures
  • Some trailer brake controllers can be damaged by incorrect polarity of the incoming power, but the Curt Tri-Flex # C24VV like many better such units has built-in polarity protection. But if you have had two brake controllers suffer the same fate, a quick death, after being connected to the same vehicle and trailer for only 250-miles of towing then your issue is most likely to be a short in your trailer socket on the vehicle or on the trailer. Start your check at the 7-way vehicle socket.

  • Curt Brake Controller Flashes a 6.6 on the Display when no Trailer is Connected
  • If what you are seeing on the Curt brake controller # C24VV is L6 then that would indicate that the controller is indicating low voltage on the tow vehicle system. But if it is actually reading 6.6 or 6.7 then that is the power output level and it could be showing that when going over bumps if there is a loose wire somewhere. Given that the truck and trailer are new it is not likely a corrosion issue in either trailer connector. I recommend running through the set up procedure again
