Required Clearance for Reese Steadi-Flex Weight Distribution Systems
Technical Bulletin
SUBJECT / Summary: Required clearance for Reese Steadi-Flex weight distribution systemsPROBLEM: On some trailers, components of Reese Steadi-Flex heavy duty weight distribution systems could contact a trailer's frame if there is not enough clearance between the two. This potential clearance problem pertains to these part numbers: RP66559, RP66560, and RP66561. Only trailers that have top mount couplers could pose a problem; trailers that have 4" to 7" frame rails and bottom mount couplers should work without issue. The following diagram shows where contact could occur.SOLUTION: You can measure the frame of a trailer to ensure that the Reese Steadi-Flex weight distribution system will clear the trailer's frame. The diagram below shows where to measure to ensure adequate clearance, and the table shows the distances needed. Keep the following points in mind when measuring:
The measurements given in the table are for straight and level installations
Chain loops, brackets, and accessories must be included in the coupler offset dimension
If a measurement is in between the measurements given in the table, ensure that there is at least 3/4" clearance between the ballmount and the trailer frame
rail or accessories
If frame rail depth is over 5", then 3/4" clearance must be maintained when steering on flat ground
On a 7-Way connector the suggested minimum wire gauge for the White (ground) wire, the Red or Black (power) wire, and the Blue (brake power) wire is 12 gauge. The minimum wire gauge for the remaining Green (right turn/brake) wire, the Yellow (left…
Both of the weight distribution systems you asked about are very nice systems. You will want to choose a system where your fully-loaded-ready-to-tow trailer tongue weight added to the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your towing vehicle is…
There's no issue going from a Load Range C tire to a Load Range D like with the #AM10208 that you referenced. Have additional Load Range/capacity really has no adverse affect on anything so this would not be an issue.
You will want to inflate the tires to the max psi that the tires have. Trailer tires always need to be inflated to their max pressure to ensure you get their full capacity whereas the max psi rating for a wheel is just how much in total it can…
In general most trailer tires require full max PSI inflated in them at all times with a very few exceptions. I don't know what tires you have but if there is an inflation chart for them based on load I'd go with that to find the correct PSI.…
You definitely don't want to be at the constant max capacity of a system. You want to be within the middle of the range when fully loaded for an ideal set-up. If you think your total tongue weight of your loaded trailer tongue along with any…
I recommend the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution #EQ37100ET over the Reese Steadi-Flex Weight Distribution System #RP66559. They both require no drilling to your trailer frame and use the weight distribution bars to keep your trailer moving in a…
If you're not planning on loading the trailer until you get to a destination, you can either leave the trunion bars of your Fastway e2 #FA92-00-0600 completely off the system or loosen the bars up so that there isn't much tension. Either way…
If you were using the old friction style sway control like in the Reese SC system, 66155, you will want to disconnect the spring bars when backing up or in bad weather. When backing up with friction sway control, the bars can bind and can damage the…
The only time you want to see power on the blue brake wire from the Curt Triflex Brake Controller part #C24VV is when the brake pedal depressed in the vehicle or the brake controller manual override is activated. If the blue wire has a constant 12V…
The 7-Way trailer connector #PK11893 does not take any wire directly. It is what is called a US car connector. There is a mating harness that plugs into the back of it that will either already be on the vehicle or you would use #PK11998 which uses a…
It sounds like the brake controller output on the 7-Way of the Curt Universal Installation Kit #C57186 isn't functioning properly. This is probably the result of some damaged wiring but would start off by checking the brake controller pin and the…
