In order to install a 7-way wiring harness on your 2015 Subaru XV Crosstrek you will first need to install a 4-flat wiring harness. I recommend the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness part # HM11143865 as it is a direct fit, plug-and-play option for you vehicle eliminating the need to hardwire.
To install the 7-way trailer wiring harness on your Subaru you will need to convert the prior 4-way into a 7-way. To do this you will want the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake... view full answer...
The 10 amp fuse in the Curt Custom Wiring Kit # C56040 for your 2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek is inserted into the red fuse holder that is located on the red wire in between the white plug and the black converter box.
In the picture attached I have the insertion point noted.
I have also attached a brief installation video of this harness on your model vehicle. view full answer...

The Ultra Faucets drinking faucet, part # 277-000189, does fit a line of about a 1/4 inch. Your plastic line feeds into the braided line on the faucet and is held in place with a compression nut. view full answer...
You need to use the mounting hardware that is included with Curt trailer hitch # C13135 or it will void the hitch warranty. The access hole only MIGHT need to be enlarged. It is possible that you will not have to enlarge it at all.
If you do need to enlarge the hole and choose to drill (or any other method that can remove paint/coating from the frame) then you should be able to prime and paint over it after the hardware is run through the access hole. Or Subaru might have small batches... view full answer...
There could be a way to route a trailer wiring harness through the bottom of the cargo area and out on your 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek. You will need to remove all the flooring that you can in the cargo area of the vehicle to get down to the metal. Then look for a grommet that you could route the wiring through.
If there is no grommet you would have to drill.
The weather stripping on the vehicle hatch will protect the harness wires provided the hatch is not closed on the harness. The wiring... view full answer...
I may have a solution for you, but you're not going to be able to open the rear hatch of your 2015 Subaru Crosstrek XV with the Thule Passage # TH910XT while bikes are attached since the added weight of the bikes would likely damage the hinges/shocks on the gate. I'll also add that after opening the hatch while the rack is attached without bikes installed, you'll want to re-tighten everything just to make sure nothing became loose during the process.
If you've got a trailer hitch on your... view full answer...
Since the safety chain loops on the EcoHitch Invisi Trailer Hitch Receiver # 306-X7203 are directly behind the 2" receiver you will have to reach up and under the rear fascia on your 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek both to attach your safety chains and to access the hitch pin hole. This trailer hitch does give you an extremely clean look but if you plan on utilizing the receiver off and on it is not the most user-friendly design.
If you would like a trailer hitch that has safety chains loops... view full answer...
Fishwiring is when you run a bolt leader, which is a long wire that on one end you can thread a bolt (it looks like spring), through the hole the bolt needs to go in, and out through a larger access hole. You then put on a spacer block or washer, then thread on the bolt and pull them back through the first hole.
Reverse fishwiring is when you put on the spacer block or washer, thread on the bolt, then shove them into the same hole they will need to come out of. Then you pull the fishwire... view full answer...
Hitch torque specs vary between hitch models so you will want to identify which hitch you have. Both 1-1/4-inch Class I and 2-inch Class III hitches are offered for your 2015 Subaru XV Crosstrek and you can see all items on the linked page.
On each hitch page we link the installation instructions which include a listing of tools needed as well as the torque specs for all included fasteners.
If you are re-installing a hitch you will need to obtain new hardware since hitch hardware cannot... view full answer...
Install of trailer hitches like the # C13135 aren't typically that difficult or time consuming. Curt tells us that this would take about 40 minutes to install so any local mechanic to you that has a decent reputation would have no problem with this.
To get a better idea what the process is like so you can decide if you think you could handle it check out the video I attached. It shows this hitch being installed on a 2012 Crosstrek just like yours.

The Malone SteelTop Roof Rack part # MPG201 will not need to be removed if using an automated touch-less car wash. However, if you are using an automated non touch-less car wash then it would be wise to remove the system which is simple to do as there are only two bolts per side. Please note, removing the roof rack before entering an automated non touch-less car wash is a rule for all roof rack manufacturers not just the above. I will say I have not personally heard of any issues with a... view full answer...
To use the Thule Hullavator Pro, part # TH898, on your 2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek you need to replace your factory crossbars with an aftermarket system. Factory systems aren't able to support the needed weight of the Hullavator Pro nor do they have the necessary over hang beyond the feet on each side. The crossbars needs to extend at least 4 inches beyond the feet for it to work properly and not hit the side of your Subaru.
I recommend the Thule WingBar system for you. It's one of the... view full answer...
The vent tube on the Redline 2-Piece Polypropylene Trailer Vent # HMAV2-AVT2 has a depth of 1-1/2 inches. The exterior half-moon piece does have a depth of about a 1/2 inch to eliminate some of the tube protrusion but on a 3/4 inch thick wall you likely will need to trim just a bit off the tube to allow the exterior piece to install flush with the trailer wall.
Most likely you will need to trim just a 1/4 or less off the tube but the best method will simply be to mount the unit through... view full answer...
The install instructions for the Curt hitch part # C13135 say to use the spacer blocks to level the hitch "as necessary". If the hitch sits level without the blocks then there's no reason you would have to put them in. view full answer...

The most reliable way to find the brake light signal to use for installing a brake controller is to use a circuit tester like the part # PTW2993 to test all of the wires going to the brake pedal switch for voltage only when the brakes are applied and none when released. That would be the correct circuit to use for the red wire of your brake controller to install it in your 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek.

Yes, you can install brake controller # TK63VR in your 2014 Subaru Crosstrek. If your Crosstrek does not already have a 4-Way trailer wiring harness you would need to start by installing one, # 118467 for non-hybrid models or # C56243 if yours is a hybrid.
Then you will need # ETBC7 to add a 7-Way trailer connector and for the wiring and other parts needed to install brake controller # TK63VR. I have included some links that show and explain the ETBC7 installation for you. view full answer...
The bolt leader is included with Curt trailer hitch # C11286 for your 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek. As for your second question I think you mean can the hitch be installed without a lift. Yes, it can, a lift makes it easier for sure, especially when filming installations (video linked for you). You might find it is easier to install if you jacked up the rear of the vehicle and put it on jack stands.
For ground clearance it will measure approximately 13-1/2 inches from the ground to the bottom... view full answer...
I checked the reviews for the pewag Servo RS Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains part # PWRS76 and there were no mentions of the self-tensioning mechanism failing. This isn't really a new design either as a lot of snow tire chains now have integrated self-tensioning mechanisms. It's really not an issue for passenger vehicles on-road. If you get into the larger trucks using them off-road that is where you'd want to steer away from self-tensioning or tightening cams but for everything else you'll... view full answer...
