The Redarc Encapsulated Power Diode # RED34FR shouldn't be needed for installing the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty # RED24FR and Pigtail # RED69FR on your 2020 Subaru Forester.
The answer page you're referring to didn't have us telling someone to install it, rather that person asked how it installs and our expert gave them insight on how to install it. Aside from that we haven't recommended the Power Diode for any other Subaru vehicles. view full answer...
It is possible to use the trailer wiring harness, # 118467, to wire a back-up camera to your 2011 Subaru Forester. However, there could be issue in how the camera will operate and to the vehicle's wiring.
You will have to find a 12-volt power source to operate the camera. The only way to get a non-pulsing 12-volt signal will be to wire into the tail light circuit of the harness. Using the turn or stop light circuit would cause the camera to turn on and off rapidly. To operate the camera... view full answer...
Thanks, I'm glad you like our videos. Our video team works really hard on them.
We do have a video of the Draw-Tite hitch # 76271 being installed on a 2019 Subaru Forester. I've linked it to this page for you. I've also linked the install details for you to take a look over. view full answer...
I have attached a photo for you that shows how to stop the brackets from sliding within the channel on a Thule Cascade XT Cargo Box. As you can see, there is a lever on the actual bracket which will stop it from sliding within the track once you line up the u-bolts. If the brackets do not stop sliding then they will need to be replaced for which we have the Replacement EasySnap Mounting Kit part # TH05820.
We also have the Replacement Plastic Strip For Thule Cargo Boxes part # TH05308... view full answer...
You could do that if you wish, you'll just want to make sure that the heat shield is NOT sandwiched between the hitch and the chassis of the vehicle at any point.
We frequently hear from folks with concerns about the vehicle being harmed because the heat shields were removed, but once the heat shields are removed, the hitch itself performs that function. The hitch is much thicker and heavier than the flimsy heat shields, so it provides better protection.
You're more than welcome to trim... view full answer...
Nothing bad would happen if you only ran one set of Snow Socks like the part # TCH70 that you referenced. You just wouldn't get quite as good of traction as if you had them on all four. view full answer...
The square hole spacer blocks for your Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Class III # 13147 are within the tolerances as you referenced. They are simply used to keep the bolt from rotating so you can torque the flange nut to specifications.
I've attached the installation details to assist with the installation and heat shield modification. view full answer...
When installing the Curt Hitch Receiver # C13409 to your 2020 Forester that hole is enlarged so the grommet will not fit back in the hole. This does allow some dirt or debris inside the frame rail, which is standard on most vehicles. It is not a problem as water will not stay in that frame rail. You will want to paint the hole you enlarged to make sure there is that seal on the bare metal as corrosion could start if you skipped that sealing step.
You can add a cover to that rail if... view full answer...
Saris has told us in the past that when installing the Saris Bones EX 2 Bike Rack # SAR83FR on a 2021 Subaru Forester you will need to use the hatch huggers # SAR88MR for the side straps. Based on the vehicle configuration you'd want to install them below the taillights. view full answer...
You do have a few options to get an electric winch, like the Dutton-Lainson StrongArm # TW4015, working, but the 4 Flat will not be able to do so alone.
The first will be to add a battery to the trailer. This will usually be my suggestion, but as you do not have brakes on the trailer and it is for a boat trailer, it will not be the best way to go.
What I suggest doing is upping your 4 Flat to a 5 Round, both on the trailer and vehicle. The Pollak 5-Pole # PK11502 for the vehicle side,... view full answer...
Actually, removing and leaving off the heat shields won't present a problem. Instead of the thin metal of the heat shields, there's now a hitch installed which will provide much better heat shielding than the factory heat shields did. Plus, if they were left in place, the shield would be sandwiched between the hitch and the vehicle frame rail and it wouldn't be possible to torque down the fasteners correctly.
This is shown in the linked installation video. view full answer...
Per the instructions which are linked for your convenience, the bolts for the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 75876 should be torqued down to 50 lb.-ft.
This trailer hitch is a confirmed fit for your 2018 Subaru Forester and I have attached a linked to a sample installation for you to reference.
Keep in mind that trailer hitch hardware should only be used once. If you purchased the trailer hitch second-hand then you will want to use part # RHK on our site and select Draw-Tite... view full answer...
When installing The etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Matte Black Finish - Class III - 2 inch # e83ZR onto your vehicle you do have to remove the 4 heat shield attachments and remove the underbody panel but you will attach it back on after. After removal of the heat shield you will enlarge the center hole on each side of the frame rail to about 1-1/8 inches to allow the mounting hardware to pass through. Then you will fishwire the 1/2 inch carriage bolt and spacer through the... view full answer...
The steps for installation for the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 76271 and the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C13409 are based on what each manufacturer found to work best for installing the hitch they designed. They are not 100% identical so it is important to follow the steps depending on which hitch you have.
The Draw-Tite # 76271 requires the trimming of the heat shield as outlined in step 3 of the instructions and also requires you to leave out the rearmost M6 bolt... view full answer...
You do indeed have the option of reinstalling the heat shield with either the etrailer Trailer Hitch # e83ZR or Curt Trailer Hitch # C13409.
You would need to drill holes in the heat shield and then re-install it, but this is totally optional so if you'd like you can do so but it isn't necessary. view full answer...
The Ventline Vanair Trailer Roof Vent part # VP-543SP is intended for use on the roof yes, but we have seen several others use this on the side of their trailer/van without issue. I do however recommend that you close the vent in any inclement weather.
I have attached a photo of said vent being used as a side mount below. view full answer...
The 2015 Subaru Forester isn't prewired for a brake controller, but you can still install one fairly easily.
You'd begin by installing a 4 pole trailer connector using part # 118467 which will provide access to the taillight circuits for the trailer lights. You'll also need our # ETBC7 brake controller install kit.
If you click the provided link, you can see a different brake controller being installed on a 2015 Subaru Forester like yours. The install on your vehicle would be very similar. view full answer...
I agree that while it is up to the consumer and either way is the correct way to do it in the end that when installing the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C13409 that the heat shield should be re installed. If for no other reason just to add a little additional protection. view full answer...
In order to replace your old locks on the Rhino Rack Zenith 400L with new locks like the # RRRK005-4 the locks will need to be unlocked and you will need access to the rear of the lock. With the key inserted you'll need to turn the key to the unlock position so it will depress the tumblers or spines on the lock. At the back there is a metal tab holding the lock in. Use a flat blade tool or knife to press that tab down while at the same time pushing the lock out from the back.

Yes, you will need to replace the side hooks of the Saris Bones EX, 2-Bike # SAR83FR or 3-Bike # SA803, with the Hatch Huggers # SA3035 since the hooks won't fit in the seams at the sides of your hatch door on your 2021 Subaru Forester.
