Video Transcript for Pollak Wiring - Wiring Adapters - PK12-724 Review

Today, we'll be reviewing part number PK12-724. This is the Pollak Trailer Connector Adapter, has a 7-pole round to 7-pole flat. This adapter is going to convert your 7-way round pin vehicle end connection for use with the 7-way RV style trailer end connector. It's going to let you tow a trailer with a 7-way flat plug, and it's going to work with any RV style 7-way plug. It also connects the ground, left turn, right turn, and stop circuits. Here on our plug, we have round floating solid brace pins. This is going to ensure minimum voltage drop, and it's going to align very easily for maximum contact.

Here on our socket, we have a spring-loaded hinged door that's going to protect the interior from dirt and moisture. We also have this nice collar with 4 mounting holes that's going to let you mount the socket to your bumper. The plug is constructed of glass-filled nylon, and the socket is constructed of high-impact ABS thermoplastic. The overall length of our plug, when we stretch it out, is going to measure right at 16 inches. The length between the plug and the socket is going to measure right at 7-1/2 inches. A couple of different wire gauges that I want to give you is we have this nice plastic coating that goes over our wires to help protect them and keep them to of harm's way and from getting damaged, but the white wire is going to have a gauge 8.

The red and blue are going to be gauge 10, and the black, yellow, green, and brown are going to be gauge 12. That's going to complete our review of part number PK12-724, the Pollak Trailer Connector Adapter, 7-pole round to 7-pole flat. .

This is a great solution for adapting RV blade connector to 6 pole connector. I give it 5 stars. I use this for work purposes, and have found one issue that I DON'T believe to be manufacturer defect. In my industry we use different trucks and trailers daily, if not hourly. Some trailer electric brakes will lock up when adapter is connected. I have found the red wire in the adapter to be the problem. My solution was to splice in a switch so that when the intermittent problem arises I can flip the switch and be on my way. 515426

Comments
Thanks for the information Charles, I did want to let you know that there are two differnet wiring configurations for these 6-way connectors. Sometimes the red wire that you noted as the brake connector point can also be pinned as the 12V power wire. This would then activate the brakes, as you noticed. Your solution while it worked for your application is not something that we generally recommend for our customer in case they forget to flip the switch and are then towing without brakes on their trailer. For that instance we recommend repinning the connector and changing the 12V and Brake pins to correspond to the correct functions.

Have a '79 Dodge with the older style 7 round pin Pollack connector and bought a new camp trailer with the 7 pin spade connector...needed an adaptor. Their PK12-724 was the perfect fit! Well built, and works perfectly! Etrailer.com has fast order processing too. Very satisfied with the product, price & service! 547209

Rather a difficult set up to find. Tried calling several other vendors, and most weren't able to fully comprehend what it was I needed. Called etrailer and not only were they able to know what I was talking about, they had it in stock and I had it in my hands within two days. Personnel are always superior in every aspect of customer service and basic human interactions. Which has become far less of a normal occurrence in this world. I will continue to use etrailer and spread the word on their great performance and excellent product lines. 476010

I received this item in a plastic bag, for a few moments i wondered if it was a knock-off. I had done my home work and was sure that this item would be compatible with the socket on my John Deere 2013 5085M at the time I ordered it, not so. The 'holding ridge' at the plug-in end was not in the right position when fully inserted into the plug on the tractor. I sent multiple pictures to Pollack Technical Support but they were unable to assist me. I finally modified the item myself (something I really hate to do) so that it would fit the plug-in and be 'grasped' by the cover/holder on the tractor side. As I anticipated, the thickness of the plastic was inadequate to make the adaptation 'sweet', so I had to cover the resulting hole with silicone caulk. 691246

  • Hooking a Gooseneck Trailer with RV 7-Way Plug to 1999 International 9100 7-Way Round Plug
The first thing that you need is the Pollak Trailer Connector Adapter # PK12-724 which converts the 7-Way round connector on your 1999 International 9100 to a 7-Way blade style connector. This will plug into your 9100 and provide a pace to connect the gooseneck trailer wiring. The next step is to then use the Roadmaster Brite-Lite Wiring Converter # RM-732 on your trailer side wiring right behind the 7-Way. This converter takes separate brake and turn signals and combines them so that...

Based on that you are in need of a 7-way blade extension like the part # C56080 for a 7 foot long extension or part # HM20049 for an 8 foot long extension. Or if you are looking for something shorter you'd want the part # TLW6024 which is 24 inches long.

  • Can the Custer Trailer Connector Adapter # F77R be Used to Tow a 5th Wheel with a Kenworth Truck
The Custer Trailer Connector Adapter # F77R is meant to go from a trailer with a 7-Pole Round connector to a 7-Way Blade connector. I believe that you need the exact opposite which can be found with the Pollak # PK12-724. You will need to take note to see if your 7-Way on your Kenworth has separate taillight wiring or not. If you test the pins on your 7-Way Round with a circuit tester # PTW2992 and find that the stop light signal has its own pin then you will need to splice in a converter...

It looks like your Ram is equipped with a standard 7-Way female blade style connector but your trailer has a 7-Way round pin connector, specifically the female end which is usually on the tow vehicle side. Because of this unorthodox setup there isn't a single cable available that will connect the trailer to your Ram but we do have the pieces needed to do this. It is Pollak Trailer Connector Adapter - Vehicle End - 7-Pole Round to 7-Way Blade Item # PK12-724. Either would work well for you if your tractor has trailer wiring setup for combined turn signals where the blinkers and stoplights are on the same circuit.
