Features to know about

Built for Lippert ABS System

You know that split second when traffic ahead suddenly stops and you're forced to slam on your brakes? You glance in the rearview mirror hoping your trailer is stopping, not swaying, skidding, or jackknifing. That's when Lippert's anti-lock braking system earns its keep and this hub and drum are part of that system. The hub's toothy edge works like a tone ring. As it spins, sensors track wheel rotation and feed data to the ABS system, preventing lockup and giving you improved control when braking.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

Figuring out your bolt pattern is easier than it sounds. The first number tells you how many bolt holes you have, and the second is the diameter of the circle they sit on.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. For example, 8 on 6-1/2" means there are 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. For example, 5 on 4-1/2" means there are 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

Video Transcript for Review of Lippert Trailer Hubs and Drums - Hub with Drum ABS - LC27PX

Hi, everyone, Steven here with etrailer.com. Today we're looking at a replacement trailer hub and drum assembly for your Lippert anti-lock brake system. That's right, folks. This works for 5,200 pound to 7,000 pound axles. It has an individual rating on the hub of 3,500 pounds. Now this does fit, again, 5,200 pounds, 6,000 and 7,000 pound axles.

If it's a number 42 spindle, which means it's gonna fit a 14125A and a 25580 bearings. Now this does come pre-greased and ready to go, and it is again for Lippert's ABS, or anti-lock brake system. They do have this clear plastic sock on it, and that keeps your pre-greased bearing in place and keeps it clean. So I'm gonna leave it in there. And then on the back, it does have the inner bearing race, everything, obviously, in the seal already pressed in and pre-greased ready to go.

Now if you notice, you've got these teeth all along the backside of the hub. That is the toothy edge that when this hub rotates, the sensors on that ABS system is gonna read those rotations, feed that data to the ABS system, and thus prevent wheel lockup and improve control while you're braking. Now this is an eight-lug, and is considered an 8-on-6 1/2 inch lug pattern, and the hub is a 12 inch, or the drum rather, is a 12 15/16 inch diameter by 2 3/8 inches wide. Again, folks, this is a replacement hub and drum assembly for the Lippert anti-lock brake system, fit in a number 42 spindle. So this is direct from Lippert, so you can be sure it works with those Lippert systems.

Folks, that will wrap it up for our quick look together. If you have questions about this, whether it's the right one or what other things you need to match up, reach out to us. We're here to assist you. We wanna make sure you get the right parts the first time. I'm Steven, stay safe while you're towing.

  • How To Tell If I Have ABS System On My Trailer From Lippert
Great catch, Jayden, here’s how to tell: # LC27PX uses 1/2inch wheel studs for 5.2K - 7K axles # LC49PX uses 9/16inch studs heavier-duty for 7K axles. Both are 8 on 6-1/2inch bolt pattern with ABS sensor ring built-in. You can measure the stud diameter with a simple caliper or socket, or check your axle tag if it’s still legible. The # LC49PX is usually found on heavier-duty builds like toy haulers or goosenecks, while # LC27PX is common on standard 5th wheels. Both of these are compatible...
