When you need to haul more than what fits inside the bed, the integrated T-slot rails let you mount crossbars (sold separately) for your bikes, kayaks, or ladders. Because the T-slots are built into the rails, racks from brands like Thule, Yakima, and Rhino Rack slide right in without interfering with the retracting cover. It’s a clean, modular setup that keeps the bed free for other gear while giving you space above for extra cargo.

The RetraxPRO XR uses 1" thick aluminum slats that can hold up to 500 lbs evenly distributed. They’re impact and weather resistant, and the matte black finish won’t fade or scratch easily. The pop-up locking handle lets you secure the cover anywhere along the rails, so you can protect tools or gear near the cab while leaving space for longer items at the tailgate. When closed and latched with the tailgate locked, it provides a strong barrier against theft and weather.

Instead of springs or hinges that wear out or freeze up, this cover rolls on sealed ball-bearing rollers that never need lubrication. It slides open with one hand using the pop-up handle, and retracts smoothly into a compact canister at the bulkhead. The spiral track inside the canister prevents the cover from rubbing against itself, avoiding scratches or binding.

Weather stripping and foam seals on all sides keep out dust, rain, and snow. The cover overlaps the top of the tailgate for added protection, and two drain tubes route any water out of the canister to keep it dry inside. The low-profile rails sit just 1" above the bed, giving the truck a clean, streamlined look while still offering clearance for most fifth-wheel setups.

Everything clamps directly to the bed rails—no drilling needed. The cover arrives preassembled inside its canister, so setup is straightforward. Just attach the rails, position the canister, tighten the clamps, and connect the drain tubes. Once installed, you get a durable, maintenance-free tonneau that looks great and handles real work every day.

Thanks for taking the time for such a detailed review RAMDaddy! I would say you definitely got your moneys worth on your last one with the 10 years of use! And valid points on the new cover, it does stink that the canister takes up so much room, but it is still a really nice cover. I hope you get 10 years plus out of this new one =)

Had this on my truck for over a year, outside in the elements every day and it still looks brand new. The finish is tough and durable. It rolls open and closed with ease and the locking mechanism is free and smooth. Couldnt be happier with it.
