These Titan Chain ladder-pattern snow chains are great winter weather chains for your vehicle. The heavy-duty, oversized cross chains and the heavier-than-normal side chains are strong and durable, giving you a heavy-duty option for harsh conditions. And the thick links are made of a corrosion-resistant alloy steel for excellent durability and longevity.

Confirming Your Fit

If you know your tire size, you may think you won't need to test fit your new chains. But there are a lot of variables that can affect whether chains will fit your specific tires, including your tire type, the amount of air pressure in the tire, the amount of tread wear, and the tire manufacturer. You'll also need to know how much clearance is in your wheel well, which you can determine by measuring from your tire tread to the sidewall of the wheel well.

We recommend that you order chains as early in the season as possible to give yourself plenty of time to test fit the chains and reorder if needed. This way, you won't be stuck out in the cold later with snow chains that don't fit.

You can test fit these chains in your garage or driveway, but you'll want to wait until there's snow on the ground to actually drive with them. Likewise, if you're out in the snow and come across bare pavement, you'll want to pull over and remove the chains. These chains can cause damage to the bare pavement, your garage floor, or your vehicle if they break from the wear of riding on a harsh surface.

Installing Tire Chains

Installing these chains is simple.

Lay chains on the ground to get all the tangles out

1. Lay out the chains on the ground to make sure there are no twists or kinks.

Drape chains over tire.

2. Drape the chains over your tires, making sure that the prongs attaching the cross chains to the side chains face away from your sidewalls. Drive forward about half a tire rotation.

Connect the chain behind the tire

3. On the back of the tire, pull the chain tight and hook the ends together. Repeat this on the front of the tire.

Hook chain in front and secure with lever

4. Drive forward 2-3 vehicle lengths and recheck the chain tension. If needed, rubber adjusters (sold separately) can be used to get a tight fit. Make sure the hooks on the adjusters face away from your tire so your wheels don't get scratched.

Quick Tips:

  • Lengthen the life of snow chains by drying them after each use before you store them.
  • Check out our installation kit with safety lights and a kneeling pad (PO34FRK) to make things a little easier when you're installing chains out in the snow.

How to Choose Snow Chains for Your Vehicle

To choose the right snow chain, you must match your tire size. Those measurements can be found on the side of your tire.

Tire size on sidewall

185/60-15

  1. (185) - indicates tire width in millimeters
  2. (60) - gives you the aspect ratio (sidewall height as percentage of width)
  3. (15) - denotes the diameter of the wheel rim in inches

Video Transcript for Titan Chain Heavy Duty Alloy Snow Tire Chains Review

What's up everybody, Adam here with etrailer. Today we're gonna be taking a look at the Titan Chain Heavy Duty Snow Tire Chains. So, these chains are gonna be rated for on-road and off-road use. So, these aren't the most aggressive chains you can get, because you can get the v-bar chains, which literally just have spikes on the outside of them. You can also get the studded chains, which are also super aggressive, but on-road use with those, you're gonna kind of scuff up your driveway, if you have some pavement there. I don't suggest that.

I think these are pretty much the best value when it comes to chains. One, they're heavy duty, you can see it in the title. And what makes them extra heavy duty compared to the other ones, is this pretty little color you see right here. So, we do have a Manganese-Nickel alloy steel construction, but we do have zinc coating right here, which is gonna make it a lot stronger than some of the other chains on the site. I just like grabbing chains that look like this, 'cause I know that they've been treated, so, they're gonna last a very long time.

These are gonna give you a lot of traction. So, these are seven millimeter thick square links. So, the square links is really nice because it has these a little bit harder edges. So, it's gonna give us a lot of traction, but not too much to where we're gonna damage our driveway. Again, I think these are pretty much the best value when it comes to what you're really getting.

It's high quality stuff and the fit is extremely well. We don't have the cam tensioners, so we don't have to keep an eye on that tool that you have to use. This gets a really good tight fit out of the box. All we have is this little lever here, which is plenty big. So, even with gloves on, you'll be able to tighten it up really easily and link it onto this.

I'm just a fan of these. We will have to get some rubber tensioners whenever we're done, but those will be in front of our wheels, but those are rubber, so, we're not gonna affect that. But notice even if we have high snow, the only really section that's really gonna hit this specific wheel might be this, but I really doubt that we're gonna have enough snow to where it's gonna actually go in and scratch this up. All in all, all you need to do is look at your owner's manual, make sure you're putting on the right set of wheels. These aren't S-Class certified, so, make sure that your vehicle doesn't need to have S-Class certified chains. But the fact that these go on-road and off-road, I think is awesome, 'cause you can get stuck in both places. Especially with off-road, these could just be used to get you out of a muddy situation. So you can use them all year round. We just wanna make sure we don't exceed 30 miles an hour whenever we are driving with these on. And that just about does it for our look at the Titan Chain Heavy Duty Snow Tire Chains..

2009 Chevrolet Tahoe

We purchased these chains after almost not making it home from Tahoe a couple of weeks ago due to broken cable chains. My husband said he wanted "manly" chains for his truck and this is exactly what he got! We plan to head up to the mountains in a couple of days and it should be no problem.
Thanks for making a great product, maybe we will be back for another set for our car!

@George Niiiice! We're glad to hear that!

Big chunky chain, just like the product picture shows. I haven't actually driven on them yet, but they look well built. I felt I needed a big chain to deal with the added hitch weight of a 5th wheel trailer. I'm not a winter camper, but you never know when you might get caught in an early or late snowstorm in the mountains.

by:

bought the chains for my plowtruck, so obviously we have no snow right now
items arrived on time and got the items that I specified easy order process and good website with plenty of different style chains will update review once we have 2 feet of snow on the ground chains and chain adjusters

by:

Extremely happy with these tire chains. They exceeded my expectations in quality and workmanship. I received this order in less than one week. Thank you!

by:

I got the chains that I ordered, they were exactly what I expected and they arrived when I expected. In this new walmart age of except whats available instead of what you want, that was very satisfying.

The thing that will bring me back was the level of unsolicited communication provided through this whole process. Thank you etrailer for your level of dedication to me and the product delivery.

by:

The tire chains power me through the snow like a bulldozer. Even give me the grip to pull others back on the road.

by:

Fantastic item, I just bought the wrong one. Customer service for the return and repurchase was beyond great and above the normal corporate standard. Thank you!!

by:
