Video Transcript for etrailer Behind the Scenes with Demco Spare Tire Carriers

These are two of the Demco ones on the trailer, the silver and the black, the same ones, but just want to show we've already. We did some of the demo already, but just wanted to show in the video the differences in just how it stands out against your trailer. If you want to match your trailer, not every trailer's going to be same. So there's going to be like this one, but thought it'd be a good idea to show them both at the same time. Is it just silver, like a silver powder coat or is it.. Yeah, although it is smoother, it has a smoother finish.

Then this other one over here, it's got. The black powder coat one's got dimples on it and a texture. So I don't know if that is a big enough deal for somebody. I mean, it matches this trailer better, but it looks like it got stuffed up a little bit. I thought maybe the black powder coat one, we looked better over time because if you scratch it, maybe you see silver underneath there or something like that.

And this one you could scratch and it'd still be silver, but you can see some of the marks on top here. So it gets scratched too just the same. Speaker 3: And how exactly do these go on, they just bolt on Yeah, it comes down here. We had four bolts. We dropped around the trailer tongue.

You put the tongue between the two plates, tightened nuts down here and it holds it in place. If it's something a four by four, so clearly that's not what this is, but actually it's really starting on there and this isn't that big of a trailer tongue, and it's not moving the whole trailer. Speaker 3: Do you need some particular fit-all bolt patterns It fits most of the ones that are going into your trailer tires, I don't know if it fits all of them. Speaker 3: And then it just attaches with the two bolts that I see. Yeah.

Which weirdly the two bolts are in here, but the nuts are separate. We had to pull those separately, which is weird. I don't know why they wouldn't give you that. But from what Bob told me, it depends on if you have aluminum wheels or steel wheels, you have to get aluminum bolts or seal bolts. Speaker 3: Okay. So maybe that's why they didn't give them to them. If we're looking at the silver one over here showing you, you need to have this bolt here in the middle, which allows these to slide. So, that would adjust to the different bolt patterns on your tire. You just tighten this back down and then they won't move. Speaker 3: I was hoping that silver was more galvanized for more water applications, but- I think the Demco powder coat is supposed to be really resistant. I mean, if it doesn't inaudible 00:02:39. Speaker 3: Yeah. Their salt spray rating. It's 500. Yeah. Speaker 3: I don't know if anyone heard the thunder. Yeah. Yeah. You saw that reaction. Whoa. Speaker 3: I just heard it behind me, but yeah. So, it looks like the black and the silver both have a 500 hour salt rating. They do have other finishes, not with their tire carriers. 500 might be the highest salt spray rating though that I've seen from Demco. I think so. So these are what size Four inch trailer tongue. Yep. Four by four. Speaker 3: Yeah. So I guess it's just going to come down to the application where a customer wants to mount it to, but it looks like most of these should fit most tires. Yeah. I would think there's probably a pretty high probability that you're going to have a lot of stuff mounted to your A-frame already. So I would imagine that, I don't know for sure how we'll do with the stake pocket mounted ones, but I think it's nice that it gives you that additional option because if you have a toolbox, if you have a jack, if you don't have anything else that you're going to put on the tongue itself, why clutter it up with more Speaker 3: Okay. That's interesting to see because I've never really recognized where the stake pockets would be on a trailer. I just assumed they we're on the top bedrail like they would be in the back of the truck. Yeah, the trailer stake pockets are a little bit different. The Brophy ones that you can actually weld on. Speaker 3: Right. So theoretically you could put them wherever you could actually weld them too, so they could show in different places, but yeah. Which is nice. Convenient. Speaker 3: Yeah. inaudible 00:04:35, I'd do it too. Speaker 3: And then I guess the tire then would set. By the time you put that in, the bottom half of the tire might set up against the sidewall of the trailer instead of. So I was picturing it up over the rail. Speaker 4: In line there. Speaker 3: Yeah. I was just thinking like, it would butt up against the sidewall of the trailer. Speaker 4: Yeah. Speaker 3: But on the outside, right Not on the inside of the trailer Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah. Speaker 4: Up against this part. Speaker 3: Yeah. So, it wouldn't be super high above the trailer. Speaker 4: inaudible 00:05:19. It didn't look like they we're very tall. You might've talked about this already and I was looking at the parts up at the moment, but so I know you said they'll fit anything between four and four and four and five and a half bolt pattern Was it easy to actually mount the tire Yeah. Once we got the bolts in the right way. It could have been my error because I haven't used it all that often, but just getting these in the right spot and then I would tighten it down then the problem I kept having is, "Oh, I tightened it all the way down and then throw the tire on there and see like this one lines up, but this one doesn't." So then I had to take the tire off, loosen it, try and keep this one in place, move this one ever so slightly so that it lines up with the bolt pattern and then tighten it down again and try it again and try it again. It took me three or four tries of doing that before we got it. But it's probably more my error than being hard for the customer. Have you done a lot of others I would think that would still be a lot easier than just the really basic U bolt. Yeah. No, I've never done anything like this before. Okay. But still overall pretty easy. Cool. Yeah. And these don't fold down or anything, right They're just static. Yeah. Okay. I wouldn't say this is an outrageous cost. I think there are definitely ones out there that you can get for a lot less, but I'm thinking of some of the really basic U bolt style ones that are a pain and aren't nearly as sturdy. And then some of the more middle of the road where you're going to have a bracket in place, but they usually only fit certain bolt patterns. And again, it can be a little bit of a pain to make everything work because you don't have the same kind of adjustability. Speaker 3: All of the Demco options look pretty solid. Can the U bolt holdings can go on sideways on the trailer or are they always standard where the tire lays on the trailer and the U bolt come up with that. Yeah. Just exactly that the U bolt itself electric goes straight through it. Right. Yeah. Then I guess those inaudible 00:07:23 and they're cheaper when they take up more of your A-frame space because it's when it's off to the side. Yeah. So this will give you a little bit more adjustability in that sense, too, that you have a little bit more space to play with. It does look nice. It looks pretty nice too. And it's sturdy. I'm impressed with that part. It doesn't move or anything. Yeah. Speaker 5: inaudible 00:07:44. Awesome. Thanks guys. Speaker 5: Thanks guys. Speaker 3: Thanks guys. Have a good one. Speaker 3: See you, you too. Speaker 5: Thanks.

Demco Spare Tire Carrier for up to 4" Tall Trailer Tongue - Black - DM15851-76

Average Customer Rating:  4.6 out of 5 stars   (20 Customer Reviews)

Trailer tongue tire carrier mounts your spare tire up and out of the way. Base attaches around trailer tongues up to 4" tall x 3-1/2" wide. Wheel bolt pattern from 4 on 4" to 8 on 6-1/2". Black powder coat resists corrosion.

I like the quality of this carrier but the description indicates that it fits a 4”x4” trailer tongue. The bolt pattern in one direction is 4 1/2” and the bolt pattern in the other direction is 3 1/2” (inside hole to inside hole) so it will not fit on my 4”x4” RV bumper without modification. I like the carrier enough that I will modify it to fit my RV and would recommend etrailer update the description. Also, there is already rust forming behind the upright support. If it weren’t for these two issues, I would have rated the product a 5..

Thank you for bringing that to our attention. Well have that info in our product description changed.

This tire carrier mount works great, super easy to install on our race car trailer and we no longer are tripping over the spare trailer tire inside the trailer at the race track. And if we ever get another trailer it will be easy to transfer over to that trailer.

by:

Good quality product. Doesn’t fit a 235/80/16 tire. Needs to be two inches taller.

Comments
You mentioned that it did not fit with your 235 80 16 tire and I wanted to ask a few follow up questions. Would you be able to send a picture to show how it is not fitting? What is the bolt pattern of your rim?
-- Etrailer Expert Jenny N - 03/29/2022
Here are three pictures of the tire and mount. I already have made a fix for it. So I’m good now. But l am trying to let you all know that for a 2358016 tire it’s to short. On the first picture the bolt in the center of the rim is the highest adjustment that it can go. So it doesn’t catch the top of the bolt pattern on the rim. So I got so flat stock and extended it. So it’s all good now. Thank you

I reached out to the manufacturer about your experience with the spare tire carrier. Since the carrier works with a wide range of bolt patters, the tire size can vary drastically and they do not have a specific max tire diameter that will or will not work. There are too many variables to take into account. The modifications that you did will work as long as the bottom side of the tire rests on the bottom plate of the tire carrier. There should be enough support on the bottom side of the mount to withstand that tire

the Demco Spare Tire Carrier.....Great product, well made. Works as advertised...Only improvement would be if Demco furnished the two lug nuts.

by:

It mounted up as described with little difficulty and holds the spare tire solidly.

by:

This tire carrier is very heavy duty. It is easy to install. I needed my tire to be mounted on the front of the trailer tongue. This solves that issue. The bolts that hold the tire are adjustable so it can take any tire you have. The only thing I think would help would be the lug nuts to be included or suggested to be purchased in addition to the carrier so that the right ones are used.

Price was fair with included shipping. It was delivered in 4 days!! It only fits up to 4in channel trailer tongue. My trailer has a 6" channel tongue so purchased (separately) 8" carriage bolts to work on the larger channel. Worked great! 225/75/15 tire fit perfectly.

by:

Easy to install and able to mount on the front of my trailer so I can still open my backdoor on my Toyota FJ.

by:

It’s solve my spare tire problem

by:

Took me a long time to find a product like this but it was exactly what I was looking for.

by:

Worked perfectly for what I am using it for.

by:

15 inch spare wheel and tire fits the front of my 5 x 8 v-nose trailer nicely with room to turn the hitch crank handle. Wish they had included a couple of 1/2 x 20 tpi trailer lug nuts. But I am otherwise very happy with the purchase. Very heavy duty.

by:

Heavy duty, well made.

Great product. Very well constructed. Great communication with trailers during the purchasing and shipping. Will definitely use trailers again
