These Titan Chain ladder-pattern chains are great winter weather chains for your truck. The rounded twist links provide traction in deep snow - and some traction on ice - and they give you a smoother ride than traditional square links. If you're more likely to see seriously icy conditions where you live, you may instead want a chain with square or V-bar links that can really bite into the ice for more traction.

Confirming Your Fit

If you know your tire size, you may think you won't need to test fit your new chains. But there are a lot of variables that can affect whether chains will fit your specific tires, including your tire type, the amount of air pressure in the tire, the amount of tread wear, and the tire manufacturer. You'll also need to know how much clearance is in your wheel well, which you can determine by measuring from your tire tread to the sidewall of the wheel well.

We recommend that you order chains as early in the season as possible to give yourself plenty of time to test fit the chains and reorder if needed. This way, you won't be stuck out in the cold later with snow chains that don't fit.

You can test fit these chains in your garage or driveway, but you'll want to wait until there's snow on the ground to actually drive with them. Likewise, if you're out in the snow and come across bare pavement, you'll want to pull over and remove the chains. These chains can cause damage to the bare pavement, your garage floor, or your vehicle if they break from the wear of riding on a harsh surface.

Installing Snow Chains

Installing these chains is simple.

Lay chains on the ground to get all the tangles out

1. Lay out the chains on the ground to make sure there are no twists or kinks.

Drape chains over tire.

2. Drape the chains over your tires, making sure that the prongs attaching the cross chains to the side chains face away from your sidewalls.

Connect the chain behind the tire

3. On the back of the tire, pull the chain tight and hook the ends together.

Hook chain in front and secure with lever

4. Repeat this on the side chain on the front of the tire, then clamp the lever to fasten extra chain links and keep them from flapping as you drive.

Attach optional tensioners

5. Drive forward 2-3 vehicle lengths and recheck the chain tension. Rubber adjusters (sold separately) can be used to help give you a tight fit. Make sure the hooks on the adjusters face away from your tire so your wheels don't get scratched.

Quick Tips:

  • Lengthen the life of snow chains by drying them after each use before you store them.
  • Check out our installation kit with safety lights and a kneeling pad (PO34FRK) to make things a little easier when you're installing chains out in the snow.

How to Choose Snow Chains for Your Vehicle

To choose the right snow chain, you must match your tire size. Those measurements can be found on the side of your tire.

Tire size on sidewall

185/60-15

  1. (185) - indicates tire width in millimeters
  2. (60) - gives you the aspect ratio (sidewall height as percentage of width)
  3. (15) - denotes the diameter of the wheel rim in inches

Video Transcript for How to Set Up Your Titan Chain Snow Tire Chains on a 2020 Toyota RAV4

Hey everyone, Charles here at etrailer. And today we're taking a look at the Titan Snow Tire Chains on a 2022 Toyota RAV4. And our tire size on this RAV4 is 235/55R19. These are your ladder style, snow tire chains. So these are gonna be really effective at your starts and stops. They're also gonna be twist links.

So these are gonna be really good for snow as well. Not as expensive as the square link chains which are gonna be better for ice. So if you're in an environment with more ice, check out the snow tire chains with the square links but otherwise for just everyday snow, these will be good. And the twist links are also just gonna offer you a smoother ride compared to the square links as well. These Titan chains come in this bag.

It's not the greatest or the most durable but it's something to keep them together that you can just throw in your trunk as well. It's a pretty simple installation. Let's go ahead and show you how to do that. To begin the installation, we're gonna lay out our chains, making sure that there are no kinks in our links. And there is a, a hook side and a smoother side.

We definitely want the hook side on the outside of our tires. So I have it laid out to where I can just grab the closest chain and just drape it over the tire. So that is what I'm gonna do. Gonna grab it from the center so that we are as even as possible. And while I'm here, I'm also just making sure that all the hooks are away from the tire.

And then I will meet you around back for our first connection. And keep in mind, you are gonna be on the cold snow when you are attaching this. So definitely a good idea to practice this at home before you are stuck outside in the snow having to do this. And I still have some slack, so I can go up a couple links. Let's go. So now at the front, we are gonna stick the hook through the link, like so. Bend it back and attach it to this triangle, like that. And now all we're gonna do is hop in the vehicle, roll over this a few times, come back out and check how secure it is. And if it's snug and secure then we're good to hit the road. Handy-dandy thing are some extra self-tensioners that you can get here at etrailer, but to put these on, we're gonna make sure that the hooks are facing outwards as well. And we're just gonna distribute these as easy or as evenly as possible I mean. I'd like to start from top to bottom and then do the sides. But this is just gonna add extra security for your chains to stay on your tires, just like that. And that does it for a look on the Titan Snow Tire Chains on a 2022 Toyota Toyota RAV4..
