Confirming Your Fit

If you know your tire size, you may think you won't need to test fit your new chains. But there are a lot of variables that can affect whether chains will fit your specific tires, including your tire type, the amount of air pressure in the tire, the amount of tread wear, and the tire manufacturer. You'll also need to know how much clearance is in your wheel well, which you can determine by measuring from your tire tread to the sidewall of the wheel well.

We recommend that you order chains as early in the season as possible to give yourself plenty of time to test fit the chains and reorder if needed. This way, you won't be stuck out in the cold later with snow chains that don't fit.

You can test fit these chains in your garage or driveway, but you'll want to wait until there's snow on the ground to actually drive with them. Likewise, if you're out in the snow and come across bare pavement, you'll want to pull over and remove the chains. Even low-profile chains can cause damage to the bare pavement, your garage floor, or your vehicle if they break from the wear of riding on a harsh surface.

Installing Snow Chains

Installing these chains is simple.

Lay chains on the ground to get all the tangles out

1. Lay out the chains on the ground to make sure there are no twists or kinks in them.

Drape chains over tire.

2. Drape the chains over the tire.

Connect the chain behind the tire

3. On the back of the tire, pull the chain tight and hook the ends together. Repeat this on the side chain on the front of the tire, then clamp the lever to fasten extra chain links and keep them from flapping as you drive.

Tension cams

4. Insert the included tool into the cam and twist to tighten the sidewall chain. Twist as many cams as it takes to get a tight fit.

Attach optional tensioners

5. Drive forward and recheck tension. Tighten any loose cams.

Rubber adjusters (sold separately) can be used to help give you a tight fit. Make sure the hooks on the adjusters face away from your tire so your wheels don't get scratched.

Quick Tips:

  • Lengthen the life of snow chains by drying them after each use before you store them.
  • Check out our installation kit with safety lights and a kneeling pad (PO34FRK) to make things a little easier when you're installing chains out in the snow.

How to Choose Snow Chains for Your Vehicle

To choose the right snow chain, you must match your tire size. Those measurements can be found on the side of your tire.

Tire size on sidewall

185/60-15

  1. (185) - indicates tire width in millimeters
  2. (60) - gives you the aspect ratio (sidewall height as percentage of width)
  3. (15) - denotes the diameter of the wheel rim in inches

So far so good. Easy enough to put on and take off, just have not had the chance to use them yet. Purchased more for peace of mind living in New England durig the winter months!

by:

The chains arrived on time and fit the tires well.

by:

I used it 1 time for roughly 15 miles on I70 in Colorado when required by law and found I had several links broken. I called etrailer about this and they said there was nothing they could do because they sat in my toolbox to long and were out of any warranty timeline.

These chains do have a 30-day limited warranty time frame. Breakage can happen with the chains if they hit bare pavement or if driven over 25 mph while installed. If you hear or feel anything off like a chain hitting your vehicle, for instance, immediately pull over and address the issue. Also avoid sudden starts and stops, which can cause your wheels to spin or lock up.

Easy and quick to install.

Outstanding Customer Service. Kept me updated the entire time and helped me make adjustments to the order after I placed it. On top of all that, Super fast delivery.

These items were needed to complete the travels with the camper. Great assets! Thank you, staff and all at etrailer.

by:

Fantastic product. I'm extremely happy with thrn.

by:

I bought these prior to crossing the mountains last December, anticipating that the pass between Oregon and California would be choked with ice and snow. It never happened and when we did run into severe ice in New Mexico, I survived with 4 wheel drive. I feel though, that the quality of the chains, albeit it, some what heavy, would have workaday advertised.

Great price and fast delivery! I tried one to check the fit on my tires and it was very good. I like the cam tightening system too! I bought them for a planned cross country trip and you'll never know if it will be snowing in the mountains.

by:

Haven't used them, hope I never have to. But they fit, and I'm happy.

by:

Great product, great price. I'm using them on my truck for plowing my driveway. Very good grip. Install was easy once I figured out the CAM adjusters.

by:

These chains are better than I expected. However, I have been satisfied with everything I have bought from etrailer. There customer service is top notch as well!

by:

Bought these for the just in case. I was living in Salt Lake City and was going to test them last winter up. The snow season was so lacking that I never had a chance to test them.

  • Troubleshooting Tire Chain Loose Ends or Improper Fit
The Titan Chain Snow Tire Chains with Cams - Ladder Pattern - Twist Links - 1 Pair # TC2221CAM if being used on the correct tire sizes should not have loose ends. The cam tighteners should remove any slack that would be an issue. Your option is to trim the cross chain links to shorten and then use the Titan Chain Cross Chain Repair Link - 0.25" Thick - Qty 1 # TC250CCRL to replace the removed link(s) and hold the chain together. You likely will need the Titan Chain Repair Pliers for Light...

  • Off Road Tire Chains for 1989 Chevy Suburban
According to Titan Chain, the # TC2221CAM are not designed for off-road use due to the composition of the steel used to manufacture the chain links. For on and off road use, the Titan # TC2221 twist link chains would be a better choice. For better snow and ice traction for on or off road, the V-bar links used on # TC2821 will really bite into the ice and provide great traction. Also recommended are adjusters like # TCOA2 which will keep the chains tightly in place on the tire. The chains...

  • Off-Road Rated Snow Tire Chains Recommendations for a 1999 Ford F-350 Dually
The Titan Tire Chains, # TC2221CAM, that you have referenced would be a good choice for your 1999 Ford F-350 Dually. The best place to put tire chains is on the main drive wheels. If your truck is 4-wheel drive, the main drive wheels are more than likely the rear wheels. You can still put them on the front as well, but installation on the main drive wheels is where they will be most effective. You should also use the # PW105 rubber tensioners.

  • Should Excess Chain Links be Cut Off of Titan Tire Chains
Titan recommends removing excessive links from their chains to prevent damage like you mentioned. There wouldn't be a reliable way to clip them out of the way either as there would be a chance it would come undone and beat up your vehicle. We have a tool that's designed to cut off the links with the part # TCRP2S.
