I installed it in about a minute on a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500. Works great and would recommend this product. There is no way to pull it off once it's locked in, you would have to take the access cover off the tailgate. The only thing you have to do after you install it is to take a flat head screwdriver to pick up the lock a little bit to get the tape off. I would recommend tweezers to peal it off.
My item arrived promptly as promised. The instructions made the installation a breeze. It functioned flawlessly. It was only 3 days from finding etrailer to the installation of my tailgate lock. I would definitely use etrailer again and would recommend it to my friends. Thanks for a job made easy.
I received the new lock faster than was expecting.The pop&lock was very easy to replace.Just popped out the old lock and popped in the new one .I had to take the handle off and take it inside because it is cold here.No problem very easy to take off. here is pic of the old and the new.
Hey Josh - thanks for the emails. You guys are great at etrailer - for my recent order and my past orders. I was alittle disappointed in the pop and lock. First the screw that came with it striped out- that was partly my fault. Also I had to shave down the locking piece behind the handle because it wouldn’t turn without hitting the tailgate handle and the key wouldn’t come out. I did finally get it to work. So at least I can lock my tailgate now. Thanks again Dan
Just had it installed. My regualr auto shop tried twice & failed. I looked up Pop and Lock's authorized installer (JR's Custom Auto in these parts), & it took less than an hour. It's feels sturdy & well-installed. Having lost my original Pop and Lock that I'd had for years, I'm once again able to lock my 95 Ford Ranger XLT's tailgate.
This in tailgate add on is awesome!!!. It is my second one and you guys are the only vender in my area that carries it. None, none of the big parts stors carry popnlock, they didn't even know what I was talking about. I went on line ordered it and was a wiz to put in. The lock hasn't frozen on me and I live in Newengland. If your looking to secure your truck bed then this is the lock you need. No drilling or retrofitting un bolt and rebolt your handle back on. This is my 2005 dodge dakota.
First of all there were no instructions on how to install the pop&lock as advertised. I have tried the scan code and it does not work or a tablet or smart phone. The manufacture is hard to reach. I have left a detailed voice message. It would be helpful if the manufacture enclosed instructions on how to install this product. I cannot find anything on you tube. I may have to return this product if I do not hear back from the manufacture on how to install the product, I will have to send it back for a refund.

I want to like the Pop & Lock, but there are a couple problems. First even though it would take maybe a quarter page of instructions, Pop & Lock is too cheap to include it. Instead they provide a link to online instructions. Also the instructions say to remove the tailgate handle insert, which is completely unnecessary. (At least in my 1994 Silverado). The product is supposed to fit 88-98 Silverado, but does not fit my 94 Silverado properly Cannot get the bolt to reach up to the cheap sheet metal extruded 'nut', as it is too high, and modification is needed. Pop n Lock should put in a little more effort to make this lock fit the listed models properly.
The bolt wouldnt reach as the stamped nut provided has no adjustment and did not align.
I found an easy solution, and instead used a 1/4x20 course thread flange nut. This allowed the adjustment for the bolt to reach.
Id ask to change the review to 4stars. I dont want to steer anyone away from a product that will work for them, and Im not sure there are many if any alternatives. I cant send a picture anymore as everything is put back together on my pickup. But it would sure be an easy fix for them
P.S. It didnt align as the nut was not low enough, and the bolt could not reach up. The hole the bolt goes through on the lock body is big enough for some play, its just that the nut they provide does not allow the nut to move any lower, using just a simple flange nut did.
Easy install, perfect functionality. Very secure as I have a latching tonneau cover.
Installation was straightforward. It was a breeze.. People take tailgates around here, especially OBS Trucks. Not any more.

Had to move mounting bolt hole over a little more to make it fit the tailgate latch. But with a slight drilling mod, able to install super easy and seems to work well so far. 94 chevy k1500 long bed
I purchased the tailgate lock for my 1991 Chevy 1500. The directions state you need remove the tailgate bezel but I found that made the installation more difficult. The tabs on those bezels like to break so you're better off leaving the bezel in place. I removed the bezel but couldn't get it back in with the lock in place, regardless how lose the lock was. So I removed the lock and reinstalled the bezel. I installed the lock next but the bolt holes wouldn't line up. A little bit of the inside of the bezel needed to be ground off with a dremel tool so the lock would fit properly and the bolt could be inserted. All in all it looks sturdy and the cost is a cheaper than a new tailgate. I'm happy with my purchase.
I don't hold e-trailer responsible for this Pop&Lock product. It is a terrible fit. The part number that is recommended for my vehicle does not fit. If I am able to modify the part enough and use a different fastener I might get it to fit. Otherwise I have wasted my hard earned money. What a shame. It looks as though the parts fit other trucks quite readily by viewing videos. Before I begin to modify this Pop&Lock I might just search for other options and then return this to etrailer.

I would like to help out with this lock. Can you tell me in more detail how it is not fitting? Would you be able to send a picture? What type of cab does your truck have? Do you have a six or eight foot bed?
The print directions are a bit vague but I pulled up a video on youtube and it made sense. It is REAL easy to install but I left the bezel on my tailgate and was able to install it without any modifications.
I have to push in on the handle to get the lock to turn but it's not a big deal, just snug.
It's a good product, hopefully it will deflect any bad guys.

After a year on my truck this product still works as it should. No issues and most importantly, I still have my tailgate.
Well pleased with the pop & lock. It was easy to install and looks great on my 1993 Chevy 1500.
