How are we doing today, neighbors Ian with etrailer here. Excited to get into a deeper dive here on the Westin Outlaw Drop Nerf Bars. These do feature a wonderful four-inch drop. Let's go over a couple reasons you may want nerf bars. One main reason you may be looking at nerf bars regardless of whether you've got a lift like our neighbor here does, or if you've got some oversized tires that just bring that vehicle a little too high for you to be able to step in. These four-inch drops, in my opinion, are gonna be perfect to get you up in that vehicle safely, nice and comfortably without having any contact with the vehicle causing premature wear.
And while we're hopping up, I did wanna look at the raised pattern that's cut into these steps. It's gonna be great when you are dealing with any inclement weather, be that rain, ice, sleet, those type of things that could cause those bars to get a little bit too slick as you're getting out and maybe miss your footing. With that raised pattern, you'll find that is not an issue. Another great reason you might want these nerf bars is with that four-inch drop, it's gonna give me really good height to be able to still access everything up here on the roof, plus a nice, stable platform to stand on where I wouldn't slip. Again, if you had ice or any type of moisture on these, you're not gonna have to worry about your foot coming off while you're loading things onto the roof rack.
These bars are gonna be made out of a strong steel that does include an electrostatic base coat, which is gonna help withstand any type of wear over time. Even if this nice blacked matte powdercoat finish is ever scratched, it's still got that coating underneath to help extend the life. Now when it comes to nerf bars and running boards in general, I've installed quite a few at this point and these probably have to be my favorite as far as drop bars. I think the four-inch is more than enough for this vehicle. And even with the lift that it has, it's got us at a good height.
I will say that the running boards always have a tendency to sit a little too far into the vehicle to make it just that much harder to be able to get your foot into place. But since these come out away from the vehicle, makes it very easy to step onto compared to some of the other running boards or drop bar options. Now the install on this is extremely easy in comparison to some of the other nerf bars. It's all a bolt-on kit and can be done in your driveway and maybe an hour at most. As long as you're okay with getting under the vehicle, you won't have to lift it up.
So that's another plus as well. Not everybody's got the ability to get the vehicle in the air, so these can be done on the ground. And we've got a great video of how to install those if you want to check that out. And while we're talking about our website, we've got this on our fellow installer, Jake's 2013 Ram 2500. But make sure you use our fit guide there on the website to double check that this will fit your specific vehicle. And in conclusion, whether you just need a good, sturdy way to get up into the vehicle or a great platform to access your roof rack, this is going to be what I would put on my personal vehicle and absolutely looks great on Jake's truck here. 2023 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon
The Westin Steps…First the directions are terrible, they give you an “idea” how to install the steps, but leave a lot to be desired. The middle pinch weld bolt holes, no matter how I adjusted the mount at had a 3/4 inch gap. I guess I could have used washers to fill the gap, but I noticed the holes didn’t align exactly and I didn’t want to drill my Jeep Or the steps, so I left them off. There is already a center steel mount, and they are sturdy. I hope they don’t rust out like the Amazon ones I took off.

Nothing fancy but secure and stable units and they allow my boots to be cleaned off of the major dirt at times.
I really like the nerf bars but I’ll have to try and touch up the scuffs from damage incurred during shipping.
Great quality steps that fit my vehicle perfectly. My only suggestion is a minor addition in the instructions from Westin that would show the difference in driver and passenger step assemblies. Maybe a subtle "D" or "P" on the backside of the tube assembly.

The Nerf Bars were excellent. Installation was very easy, instructions were perfect. The issue I have is Etrailer’s customer service. When I ordered the bars, it showed in stock and I would have them the next day. They didn’t show, so I called that evening and talked to a representative who informed me that they were not in stock and they would have to be shipped from the manufacturer. I understand this, as inventory numbers can be off, but the original salesperson could have called back to inform me of the situation, but they didn’t. The representative I spoke with that evening said she would call me the next morning to let me know what the status was. No phone call. So I waited an additional day and left a voicemail for the sales manager because now my order online says pending with the manufacture. So do they have them, are they going to be shipped, when will they arrive? No email or phone calls on the status. Finally, 5 days later they showed up. If they would have informed me this, I would have been okay with it, but I had already had a time set up for help to install them and I had to cancel. Again, the product was excellent, customer support was not.
First, I had to call for the right installation instructions, second, only 3 of the 4 brackets that get mounted to the truck lined up with the nerf bar
The step bars came exactly as described. They were very well packaged and easy to put on my new 2026 Ram Rebel. They look awesome on the truck!!!
Super easy install and took less than 45 mins including unboxing(2026 Chevy HD2500 crew). Paint finish looks good out of the box. Workmanship could be a little better…cleaning up weld slag before painting and with better fitment/welding from the tube to the sheet metal(see the pics). Some of the seams are “gappy”. We’ll see how well they hold up to the salt. Overall, I’m happy with the look and function.
The running boards are of good quality and all of the parts arrived to completed the installation. It was relatively easy to install. I would recommend having a second person to help put the running boards onto the support brackets. The instructions were flawed, and the brackets for the center two supports need to be swapped from passenger side to driver side to make everything line up correctly. Other than that, happy with the purchase and quality of the product.

The package arrived in very sturdy packaging, parts undamaged. The bars appeared of good quality and all attaching hardware was included. I watched the eTrailer video from the website. As I have often found true for many auto DIY videos from all types of manufacturers, they're shot in a pristine garage, often on a lift and the vehicles are in excellent shape. Most of us work on our driveways. The 1 1/2 hr install estimate was not accurate in my case. More like 4-5 hrs. I live where salt is used on the roads, my truck is 8 years old. My old Westin running boards were rusted through(original install most likely), buit came off okay. Of the 12 bracket holes on the truck, only 4 had plastic covers. The rest were rusted and I was unable to thread a mounting bolt. Luckily I had a 8mm tap, otherwise add an hour to install for a store run. The 4 plastic covers on some of the mounting holes all broke apart and those holes had to be tapped also. After installing mounting brackets, the bar install went fine. I saw no mention of leveling the bars. I checked mine and they were within a 1/8 bubble side to side. I am very satisfied with the appearance of the bars and although, as mentioned in the video, I loose some ground clearance it's more comfortable getting in and out compared to my old running boards. Hope this helps.
Fast shipping and fairly easy install. Product is generally high quality and looks nice on the truck. Only a 4/5 though as the bolt clips are not of high quality. One of them split in two when trying to torque to the 15-18 foot pounds as listed in the instructions. They generally won’t go that high and get very springy before they approach 15. The bolts holding the bars to the brackets were torqued without issue.
So, I had to spend another $10 to buy 30 more clips (I needed one but etrailer couldn’t sent me a spare or two). Replacement clip was vastly superior to those that came with the original unit. Torqued right up without issue. If it wasn’t so much work I’d replace all of the original clips but not going to do that at this point as the bars aren’t going anywhere. Just be wary of those clips as they aren’t of great quality. Everything else is however.
