Hello again, friends, Steve here with etrailer.com. Today, we're looking at the Aries ActionTrac Motorized Running Boards with your custom installation kit and LED lights. Now, these motorized running boards will lower automatically to create a pair of steps on each side of your vehicle. I'm gonna throw up a graphic down the screen, so you can kinda see what that looks like in action. The second step we'll deploy and retract when you open or close your door of the vehicle. Now, they do have built-in raised tread on these extruded aluminum parts, and that's to help you have grip and everything, but also, it's just one piece that's built in, you don't have to worry about changing out step pads and stuff in the future.
Now, this is a custom fit, it will fit 2007 to 2017 Jeep Wrangler and 2018 Jeep JK Wranglers. So always check your fit guide on etrailer.com, put in your make and model, make sure you're getting the right parts for your particular vehicle. Now, these do have a built-in smart system, and that just means that they're gonna stop from deploying or retracting if there's an obstacle such as a rock, maybe some snow built up, ice, that kind of stuff that would impede it from working correctly. It's gonna note that by itself and not open or close. Again, it's gonna have integrated LED lights.
Again, you won't be able to see them right now, unfortunately, because they come on automatic when you open and close the door, and that step retracts or extends out like I showed you in that image before. Now, they do have a power override switch, which lets you disable the automatic step function and the LEDs if you wanna do that, so you don't have to keep it on all the time, you can disable that. And I wanna kinda show you some of the hardware and stuff that comes in the kit, I'll give you a close up here in a minute, but while I got it all out here zoomed out. So the steps are gonna come with the built-in wire harness as far as the plugs for the steps themselves. You're gonna get the four brackets.
You're gonna get instructions, all the wiring harnesses, all the wire loom, the switches, the nuts, bolts, hardware, all that kind of stuff, and the main electronic brain assembly here. So this guy, as you can see, not too big, about as big as my hand. Again, you're gonna get all the wiring harnesses that you need to reach both sides. You're gonna get all the connectors. You got Deutsche connections in here, zip ties, double-sided sticky tape, wire loom, things to run the wire safely up out of the way.
All your ring terminals, everything's built in, very, very nice set of colorful instructions. Those are always nice, you get colored pictures. That's really gonna make it a lot easier for you. Again, this is a no-drill custom application, so you don't have to worry about drilling and, you know, messing with that kind of stuff. Now, because this is a fit for Jeeps, there is an available kit that is sold separately, I'll put that up there on the screen. This kit is gonna provide a manual operation switch for your Jeeps without doors. So let's say you take the Jeep door off, you know, no doors, or even some of the ones that are just the soft doors, maybe they don't use that same integrated system for the opening door switch. This kit, you can manually open and close them that way. They are made in the USA, very nice product. Support our country, support your local manufacturers out there, that's always a plus in my book. Now, as far as some measurements, the steps themselves on the top are 48 3/4 inches long. They are four inches wide on the step pad itself where you put your foot. When that automatic step deploys, that step is gonna be 44 inches long and three inches wide on the step itself. Now, that dropdown, like that graph I just showed you before at the beginning, the drop is gonna be about eight inches. So most house steps in your house are gonna have about a 7 1/2 inch rise or drop. But because this is for a vehicle, whatnot, eight inches is kinda the standard for that. These bad boys are rated at 650 pounds capacity each. If you're a hefty guy like myself, you don't have to worry about stepping down them, 'cause they're gonna hold you with no problems whatsoever. Again, lifetime limited warranty, so you don't have to worry about replacing stuff. If you ever have an issue, either contact us or the manufacturer, and we'll get you taken care of shortly. Again, all extruded aluminum, nice black powder coat finish. Very, very durable product. The brackets and everything, nice hard metal, powder coated, corrosion resistant. They really did a nice finish on this from what I can tell as far as the brackets and the steps themselves and the housings to get that coverage all the way around. And it looks like they're gonna be very, very durable for a long time to come. Well, again, I'm Steve with etrailer.com. Thank you so much for joining me today. I hope this information helps you with your decision. As always, check our fit guide at etrailer.com to get the right parts. Have a great day.
Ratings & Reviews
The running boards have worked perfectly. the closed height is unobstructive for normal 4x4 use and the down position makes entry and exit easy even for persons with dexterity problems.
the light package is adequate for front and rear doors.
Installation went well, leave all bolts loose until mounted then tighten seems to make it easy.
I would highly recommend.
4.5* actually. Overall, I really like these. They are a good price and they look nice. Some of the brackets had to be bent a little bit to get them to line up correctly, but it wasn't bad. I've actually purchased these twice! I sold the first vehicle, but immediately bought these for the better optioned vehicle I traded up for. NOTE - DO NOT buy the door delete kit that can be added to this. It's a waste of money that overrides the basic automatic functionality on a daily basis. The basic kit includes an on/off switch already.
Awesome product so far…. Game changer for bad knees.
These steps work very well. The installation of the bars are one of the most easiest I have seen. I have installed other brands and they took much longer. All the holes lined up as expected. The wiring is not for the faint at heart. We had to take the back seat out of the Colorado and peel back the carpet to run the wiring. The instructions were straight forward and easy to follow.
After owning these for a year they are still working like the day we put them on. We have had a few issues with the end caps of the walk boards being faded by the sun and turning white. The driver side light began blinking when the door was opened. I contacted the company and they sent me new end caps, stated that they had a bad batch sent to them that were not UV free and they sent a new light. I replaced the light and still have the problem. But the company appears to work well on warranty items. Only reason I did not give the the full 5 stars is due to the end caps fading and the light began blinking. Other wise I would purchase these again. They are not cheap by any means but are of a good quality.
Put them on the wife’s wrangler and she loves them. So far they work great and not much maintenance
I order these for my 2022 Chevy 2500 they had them is stock and came fast. Very good fit bolted right on. It took me about 3 hours in my driveway to install them. They are about 12” off the ground when deployed. I like the 2 steps design very helpful. They look very nice and are built strong.
Running Boards are exactly as advertised. Simple to install as long as you follow the instructions.
This is a custom install. Choosing the proper running board was easy, received order promptly.
Work great and good quality but almost half of the nuts that were supplied would not go on the studs
Product looks great and works well.
These retractable running boards are "Almost" "Plug&Play" on Fords. First, I recommend Ford Upfitter Switches to power On/Off the boards (no drilling thru the truck firewall). Second, I found that I needed to Re-route/Re-group the wires thru the floor paneling...some wires needed to be on the Passenger side. Third, it would be nice if the RBoards did not have a low current draw on the battery when parked long term.
I would buy them again and do strongly recommend these RBoards. It is presently the best available choice on the market. I installed these boards myself in about 6-8Hrs.
Works great. Install wasnt too bad. If your handy its worth it.
I was disappointed that there was no wording or switches with this product that was an additional cost had I known I wouldn’t have bought them
Fast shipping! I ordered a set of steps for an unknown vehicle and did not notice until I attempted to print installation instructions. I called etrailer and talked to Ashley who sent an email with return instructions as well as sending the correct set of steps to me. Fantastic customer service which is hard to find these days. Thanks Ashley!!!
Steve with TekRV, a mobile RV mechanic, out of Galveston did the installation. Everything went according to the instructions. Looks and works great. Co-pilot is happy, I am estatic.
My wife can now get into my Chevy 2500HD without a step stool!
First time for the power running boards. Wasn’t to hard to put on. Now that I did it once I’ll be able to cut down the time in half. Wife loves the fact that it has a two step to get into the truck. Especially with bad knees. A+ for us
Customer service was great. Received my running boards and in transit they had a minor dent on the top.Amy who was helping me , didn't think twice and sent me a whole new set in two days , which was great. The new set that I received were in perfect shape.
I bought them for my dad so he can get in and out easily. I like the on off switch because I don't use them unless he's riding with me.
Love them. Only issue I have had with them is both side lights blink instead of being solid.
Install was no joke. Hard part is the wiring. Had to remove the rear interior and pillar panels to install harness and four door switches. Has to be a better way, like tapping into the door light switch wire to trigger the steps!
Steps are nice, I like how there are two steps compared to the other guys power step. Lot easier on the seat bolsters getting out instead of sliding out to a lower step.
I liked the idea of a two step running board. My wife has had operations
on her knees and was difficult for her to get into her jeep with the
standard side steps. I started looking for powered steps and these
sounded like just the ticket. There was some fabrication involved,
because I installed them on a 2000 TJ Wrangler, but nothing too crazy. I
used some 3/16" flat bar and sandwiched it between the body mounts. In
retrospect, I should have used C channel for the longer front mount,
because I had to weld gussets on it. Welded a piece of angle to the
flat bar for the supplied mounts. If you don't have a welder, it could
all be bolted in with the C channel.
I also didn't care for the supplied magnets and switches held on with
tape to operate the steps. We hit up the u-pull-it wrecking yard and got
the same style switch that operates the dome lights and I installed them
above the original switches.
I put the door delete bypass in the housing for the front speakers on
the dash.
They have been installed for about two months now and we've had no
problems with the operation. Lots of likes from our friends who see them
in operation.
They are very sturdy and install is not too hard. The wiring harness is top notch and includes everything you need. They fold up and look like a plain step bar until you open the door then the bottom step swings down and makes accessing my Ram 5500 much easier! I know the application says it won’t fit a 4500 or a 5500 but I assure you they fit any Ram 2500-5500. No cutting into the factory wiring harness, all the steps need are +12 volts from the battery and a ground screw.
I ordered these steps through Ashlee on the phone, she was a pleasure to work with and made ordering very easy. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is the instructions weren’t very clear and some things were different than the pictures. Otherwise everything worked perfectly.
All brackets has areas that didn’t get coating and rust was starting to form. Primed with cold-galv paint then followed up with satin black.
Instructions were not in color as stated, black and white photos hard to make out. Had to cross reference on the web in addition to the instructions to install.
The running boards … one opens and closes louder then the other which is startling at first but very pleased, works as advertised, looks good.
