Swapping out old incandescent bulbs for LEDs makes a big difference in both brightness and durability. This 2-1/2" round Piranha light uses three surface-mounted diodes that deliver a vibrant amber glow while drawing just 0.05 amps at 12V. Water intrusion is a common reason trailer lights fail, but this one is built to prevent it. The housing and lens are sonically sealed into a single waterproof unit that keeps moisture out and protects the circuit board from corrosion or shorting. Whether it’s wet roads or full submersion at the ramp, the sealed design keeps the LEDs safe and shining bright.
Proper lighting coverage means safer towing, and the P2 rating gives you focused light exactly where you need it. The beam spreads 45 degrees to either side for a total of 90 degrees of coverage—ideal for clearance or side marker use. Mounted correctly, it helps other drivers see your trailer clearly from straight on, improving awareness in low light or traffic.
Installing this light is simple and clean thanks to its recessed mount design. It fits into a grommet opening (grommet sold separately) so it sits flush with the trailer surface. The light accepts an industry-standard two-prong plug for quick connection, letting you reuse existing wiring setups without extra rewiring or parts hunting. At 2-1/2" diameter and 15/16" thick, it’s a compact fit that looks neat once installed.

Today we're going to be taking a look at part number 162A. This is the Peterson LED 2-1/2" Round Amber Trailer Clearance Light. The LED says seems we have a life expectancy of about 100,000 hours. It's going to contain a three diode, or three LED design. LEDs are going to be great replacement for incandescent lights. They're going to last longer. They're going to burn brighter, and they're going to be much more efficient.
You don't have to worry about replacing the bulbs, and you don't have to worry about brutal filaments. It's got the nice amber lens with a white base. This unit is sonically sealed for water proof design. The LED lights are going to use 1/10 of the electrical current needed to operate when compared to standard bulbs. This does operate between nine and 16 volts. We'll take a look at the overall diameter of the light.
It's going to give us the measurement of about two and a half inches. The depth, measuring just the lens. That's going to give us a measurement of about 13, 16, 7 inch. Here on the back side is our connection point for our wiring. This is designed to accept your industry standard two prong plug.
It's also designed to be mounted with a grommet. The grommet and the pig tail plug, are going to be sold separately. You can find those on our website using part number 162-18K. This unit is Department of Transportation compliant. We're going to go and hook it up to an external power source, that way you can see what it looks like with power running through it. I have a two prong plug here.
We're simply just going to place it into the female port on the back. Give it a good push so it sits right into the housing back there. You can see here, it sends out a really nice clear, consistent signal. The amber lens sends a lot of lights come through. It's going to contain three LEDs. The multi-diode design is really going to help optimize our light output. Again, this is designed to be used as a trailer clearance light. That's going to do it for our review of part number 162A. Works great, the only reason for 4 stars is there was a sticker on it that left residue behind and was a pain to remove! All of the other led lights I ordered did not have stickers on the lens, I suggest you don't put them on these!
I used these as replacement lights for my box trucks. These are brighter than the original lights, and as they are LED, I expect them to last much longer as well. The price was also very good.
