When you’re hauling different loads every week, you need a cover that adapts. The Switchblade’s retractable aluminum and vinyl deck rolls smoothly into a compact canister at the bulkhead, giving you full bed access when you need it. Just squeeze the pinch grips at the tailgate and the tension spring automatically retracts the cover—no wrestling or folding panels. A built-in pull strap helps you close it back up in seconds, and when it’s open, nothing blocks your rear window.

This cover is built for people who actually use their trucks. It installs or removes in about 10 minutes using only a wrench and screwdriver—no drilling required. The frame rails clamp inside the bed rails for a clean fit, and kickstand supports at the tailgate end help level everything out during setup. When you need to haul something oversized, just unbolt the canister, release the clamps, and lift it off as one piece.

The deck combines a black vinyl top layer bonded to heavy-duty aluminum slats for the strength of a hard cover with the smooth look of a soft one. A large seal at the rear closes the gap to the tailgate to help block dust and water. With the tailgate locked, your gear stays secure underneath—both the pull strap and pinch grips are tucked away under the rear plate where they can’t be reached from outside.

Rain or wash water drains through a built-in channel system that directs runoff into the canister and out through drain tubes in the bed floor. That setup keeps water from collecting or freezing inside the rails, so operation stays smooth in any season. The weather-resistant materials and foam seals under the rails and canister add another layer of protection to keep your cargo dry.

Sitting just 1/8" above the bed rails, the Switchblade blends in cleanly without bulky edges or gaps. The flush profile gives it an aerodynamic shape that helps reduce wind drag when closed. At only 49 lbs overall weight, it’s easy to handle but still heavy-duty enough for everyday use.

Item's box is well made and sturdy, however UPS shipping still was able to damage the item. Metal supports that hold the canister were bent. Was able to straighten them and installed it on my Ram 3500. Everything works like it is supposed to and you can't even tell it was damaged in shipping. Would have given this a 5-star rating but shipping and receiving the item in good order is part of the process.
Everything was in good condition, installed well, I was only missing one wing nut for the rail level adjuster but I will pick one up at local Home Depot. Fast shipping and delivery was on schedule. Free shipping is also a plus.
Perfect fit for the 8ft bed. Looks great and is great quality. etrailer had fast shipping and excellent customer service.
Received my bed cover last night in a wore out beat up box. parts hanging out of it. When I opened it it was full of returned items from other customers. When I asked to discount and speed up shipment on the replacement I was told nothing he could do. I have been a loyal customer and I'm not happy with the way this has been handled.
The cover is nice looking and keeps out the water. After a year it does not retract completely without using your hand to push it in, the rubber that keeps leaves from going into the box came off, and the bracket at connects on the end of the truck keeps sliding out. Etrailer gave me the email address of the manufacturer if I want to see if they would fix it.
Installation instructions lacking. Retraction spring ins weak. Have to manually push back

It is good. The retract spring is a little weak, but otherwise happy. But etrailer had to send a replacement due to shipping damage
mostly what I expected. quality is fine, but does not seem like $xxxx worth of quality. install was fairly easy and getting the cover to slide smoothly was not a problem.
as a note to others with "new style" (2019 or 2020 can be either new or classic style as I understand it) Ram 3500 DRW, the inside of the bed is tapered from front to rear. this means that the front clamps will not work properly.
while this tonneau does fit the DRW Ram 3500 (it doesn't fall into the bed LOL), you will need to modify the front clamps, modify the underside of the bed rails, or find another solution to anchoring the front of the tonneau side rails.
the reason it got 3 instead of 4 stars wasn't just the lack of clarity on the fit or the clamps that I had to re-engineer, but also because the drain tubes are a joke. they do not resemble what's described in the instructions (which would have been a good solution, IMO), but instead are just junky plastic electrical connectors that are suppose to plug in to the bottom of the cover storage box.
you basically have three choices on these: try to install them with the foam seal ring they come with and have them fall out immediately over and over, install them without the foam ring in which case they stay in but don't seal against water running out into your truck bed, or install them with some silicone or other sealant that you provide.
for over $xxxx, the above issues make for a 3-star experience. hopefully it lasts a long time, at least!

Thank you for the information! I just want to make sure that you put the longer clamps in the front while the shorter ones are by the tail gate. To see this part of the installation you can visit the attached video at the 7:20 mark.

I like it but it falls out of the drivers side track close to the cab not the tailgate. I adjusted several times. Everything is square and it still falls out. I'm frustrated.

Hey Radford. That doesn't sound good at all. I recently talked to someone else who had a similar issue with their Switchblade. It sounds like the issue may be due to the cover needing to be shimmed in, as outlined in Step 4 of the installation instructions. This should help keep it secure in the track near the cab. Let me know if that helps, if you doesn't, let me know!
Simple to install. Works great.
After only a few days in, the cover is great.
The install instructions, however, are horrible.

I'm glad that you are lovin' the cover so far! I'm also glad that you also shared your honest feedback about the instructions.
Easy to install looks and operates great
Pretty easy to install. Shipping was fast. Plastic drain tubes were difficult to connect and the tubes really don't have anywhere to go.
Arrived in great shape. Very easy install took 30 minutes.
2017 ram 2500 8 ft bed
Easy instalation
Delivery was good nothing damaged
Looks good
First off l would like to say that etrailer customer service is outstanding. Now for the Tonneau cover, the quality is very good and the install was quick and easy. I would definitely recommend this cover.
I really like this cover. I have the same one on my company issued truck and have really liked it and knew it was the one I wanted on my personal truck. Easy to install in about 30 minutes.

Still very satisfied after having for a year.
Looks good easy install but doesn't keep water out
I am giving this cover a 4/5 rating only because of the installation challenges. The installation video tells you to install the tailgate end rail hinges first before the cab end hinges. The video shows the tailgate hinges installation procedure for the tailgate end then skips showing how the cab end hinges are installed. It only says the cab end installation is the same. The cab end hinges intall too tightly up against the bed rails making it impossible to slide the "knuckle(?)" on the hinge. I had to remove the bed end hinges and kickstand to be able to angle the rail cap around enough to slide the knuckle hinge on, even had to use a ball peen hammer to tap it on. On the driver side the cab end end hinge and knuckle were too far apart, resulting in the knob bolt too short with the lock and flat washer to engage the barrel nut. I had to remove the lock/flat washers to make it long enough. That said; the cover works beautifully without further adjustments. Smooth opening and closing. Very pleased with this cover.
2 things to make better.
A- stronger spring forecast the close.
B- more places in track for locking positions.
All in all a great cover. Strong and durabl.
I love this tonneau cover, I’ve had this one in the past, I have it installed already and it looks and works beautifully!!
It looks great once I got it put on my truck! The only complaint I had is that the install instructions they sent with it to put it all together wasn't very clear on how to put it all together. I had to look up a video on YouTube to get better instructions to do so.
The cover looks great and DOES work on a 2020 Ram 3500 8'bed. It was easy to install. It was missing 2 hex bolts to connect the rails to the canister but a few dollars at the local hardware store fixed that. The only concern I have is the canister cover is a little warped, either from shipping or manufacturing, allowing the cover to retract in the canister without touching the brush on the canister cover. This could allow dirt and dust into the canister later as well. All in all great looking cover that does what its intended to do.

Great!!
Finally got time to install my bed cover. Love it, much better than the old back flip that I had on my old truck.
Looks good. Easy install. Can be done by one person. Opens and closes smoothly.

Glad to hear the install was easy and everything is opening and closing smoothly! It’s always a plus when you can get the job done by yourself. How has it been holding up since the installation?
Overall for the price I’m not satisfied. I followed the manufacturers instructions and it worked smoothly for about a month and then the tracks started getting rougher and rougher. It will open about half way and then you need to get in and push it from side to side for it to fully retract. I also had the cover fall down off the track in the center and it was a huge pain to get it back in the track by myself with cargo inside the bed. You are better off spending an extra $100-200 and going with the “real truck” roll up bed cover.
Do you have a question about this Tonneau Cover?
