Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a look at this Derale Series 9,000 plate and fin transmission cooler with the FPT inlets. Now the vast majority of automatic transmission failures are a direct result of overheating, and towing can place an extra strain on the transmission, causing it to get hot. An aftermarket transmission cooler like this one can help prevent overheating and extend the life of your vehicle's transmission. Even if you're not towing, it still can keep your transmission cooler, which can be beneficial. Even a relatively small drop in fluid temperature can almost double the transmission's life and increase its performance.
And most of the factory cooling systems are adequate at best 'cause they'll rarely maintain your transmissions fluid within the ideal operating range of 160 to 200 degrees. So adding this transmission cooler, it's not difficult and it extends the life of your vehicle and ensures that it functions at its best. Now, one of the more popular cooling systems is this radiator-style plate and fin heat exchanger. This will provide increased surface area so that the fluids can spread out along the fin chambers to cool faster. This unit is perfect for light to medium duty use in occasional towing, and it is recommended for full size trucks and SUVs.
As we mentioned, it'll greatly extend the transmission life by preventing heat-related transmission failures and it improves the shifting performance. The inlet size is a half inch FPT. The distance between those inlets, if we put a ruler on it, center to center, 8.5 inches. Now the overall dimensions on this, if we measure the width from this side to this side, you're gonna be right at 9 7/8 inches wide. The height, including the mounting tabs, from the bottom all the way up to here, is 8.5 inches tall. We mentioned the depth.
It's gonna be right at 1 1/4 inches deep. And the mounting dimensions, which where these mounting tabs are, you'll see the two holes and two holes at the bottom. The horizontal center to center measurement on the mounting dimensions, and we right at 6 3/4 inches. And center to center for the vertical, 7 3/4 inches tall. But that should do it for a look at this Derale Series 9,000 plate and fin transmission cooler with the FPT inlets.
