Features to know about

Keep the Front End Level and Confident: 1,400-lb Front Suspension Support

A heavy load up front can make the front end dip and throw off how your vehicle steers and brakes. These SumoSprings Solo helper springs add up to 1,400 lbs of support at 50-percent compression to keep things level and controlled. They help your factory suspension handle extra weight and absorb bumps so steering feels solid and headlights stay aimed where they should.

Smooth Ride Over Every Bump: Progressive Load Control

These springs are built with progressive load control, so they compress softly for small bumps and firm up as the weight increases. Light loads get a cushioned ride that feels smooth and steady, while heavier loads get up to 80 percent compression for strong support that keeps your suspension from bottoming out. The result is a more even ride no matter how much weight you’re carrying.

Comparison image showing SumoSprings Solo front helper springs installed on a Jeep suspension in uncompressed and compressed states, demonstrating how the springs help level the vehicle under load.

Stay Steady in Crosswinds and Turns: Independent Spring Action

When uneven loads or sharp corners try to push you around, each spring works on its own to keep both sides balanced. That independent movement helps cut down body roll and sway so the vehicle stays planted through curves, crosswinds, or rough terrain. You’ll notice less rocking when pulling into driveways or stopping on uneven ground.

Built Tough for Real Conditions: Microcellular Urethane Construction

These durable microcellular urethane springs hold up through all kinds of conditions—resisting oils, road salts, and UV rays, while working in temperatures from -25 F to 200 F. They compress vertically with minimal side expansion, so they fit safely in tight spaces without getting chewed up by nearby components. And because they’re maintenance-free with no air lines or pressure to monitor, you just install them and go.

DIY Friendly Setup: Simple No-Drill Installation

Adding front-end support doesn’t have to be complicated. These custom-fit helper springs bolt on with a simple, no-drill installation using basic tools. It’s a straightforward upgrade that’s easy to take on in your own garage or driveway without needing to run airlines or adjust pressures later.

Video Transcript for What to Know About the SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs for Jeep

Ellen: Hey everyone, I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com. Today we're taking a look at the SumoSprings solo custom helper springs. These are going to be for the front axle of the 1997 through 2006 Jeep TJ Wrangler. So this is going to help to support the front end of your Jeep and help you get a better ride out of it. A lot of times whenever you have a heavier load on the front end of your Jeep, maybe if you have a winch loaded up there, a little extra weight on the front end, it can cause some issues, so we're going to be able to support that. It's going to replace your existing jounce bumper.

So for the install process, you might have to remove the drag link arm, the coil, and the sway bar to get at that old jounce member, pull that out of place, twist this new guy in there, and then replace all your parts. So it's definitely something that you can do at home if you have some mechanical knowledge to get that done, it's pretty much just a matter of taking things apart and then popping this new guy back in, but there's no cutting or drilling required with these. Once they're in there, you don't really have to worry about any kind of maintenance, they're just going to be there to do their job. The nice thing about these is that they have a progressive load control. So basically as these compress, they get denser and they give you more support. So with lighter loads, they just compress easily and they're fairly soft and they give you that less bumpy ride.

As the load gets heavier on them, they are going to compress by as much as 80% for support. They also work independently of each other so you don't have to worry about any kind of off center loads. It's also going to reduce any kind of body roll whenever you're going around a sharp corner. It's made of a microcellular urethane, which has a good life as far as being able to resist any kind of oils, road salts, and UV rays. So it should last for a long time. Again, no maintenance required with these, no air lines to run into these that you have to then maintain, so pretty easy to maintain once they're in place.

They do have a temperature range from negative 25 degrees Fahrenheit up to 200 degrees Fahrenheit, so even if you're in the colder States, or out to the desert, you should be fine as far as use with these. They don't really expand out side to side too much, so there's very minimal lateral expansion as they compress. They stay pretty tight to this profile, so you don't have to worry about any kind of damage from contact with your wheel, or any other suspension components. So it shouldn't have any issues being in tight spaces. And again, no maintenance required, no drilling required. We do get two of our springs here.

The weight capacity for each of these at 50% compression is going to be 1400 pounds, or 1,400 pounds. Now the important thing to keep with that number, and that's for both of the springs at once, I think I said individually, but that's for both of the springs, but that 1400 pounds is not going to mean that you can have that much additional weight in your Jeep, that's just there to support that much weight. So you're not going to have any more of a payload from your Jeep, you never want to exceed your manufacturer's recommended weight ratings. It's just there to give you that extra support so that your ride is better, helps your other suspension components work correctly.Another thing to know with these is that if you have a aftermarket coil, these really are not designed to work with that, they're meant to work with your factory coil. So if you do have a modified coil on your Jeep, you might need to get a different set to work with your setup. It does come with a two year limited warranty, and these are made in the USA. That's going to do it for our look at the SumoSprings solo custom helper springs for the Jeep TJ..

What most new RV owners don't know is that the chassis that their new mobile home sits on barely has the equipment to support that new home. Adding SumpSprings is going to improve your ride and help support the structure of your home. FYI, use a jack on the leaf springs to help align the holes on the bracket to the ones on the frame.

Product is great, exceeded my expectations. Install is simple and straightforward. It’s a night and day difference in both the body roll and the handling small bumps all the way up to off-road conditions.

Appreciate you leaving a review Austin, It's always nice when a product exceeds expectations and these springs have been highly rated. Are you typically off road or do you plan on towing?

30 Minutes for all 4?! That's got to be some kind of record, Dennis! Glad the process was nice and easy and I hope they serve you well. Let us know if you do end up needing to go to the heavier duty yellow option as well, we always like to get real life experiences from people. : ) Any more trips planned for the year?

I have a Workhorse W22 chassis. I installed steering dampeners and HD sway bar to reduce the "loose" steering. After installing the SumoSprings Front Spring helpers on the front end, 90% of the looseness on the front end disappeared. It is now a pleasure to drive. Very little sway from passing trucks and cross winds. I will be installing a set on the rear this year.

That is awesome to hear! It must be such a relief to not have to put so much energy into controlling the wheel while driving now.

2018 Thor Freedom Elite Motorhome
I recently purchased/installed SumoSprings for the front axle on my 2018 Thor Freedom Elite 28FE. Having previously purchased/installed SumoSprings for the rear axle I have to say that the overall improvement in ride/handling has exceeded my expectations. As always, etrailer provided valuable insights and prompt inquiries to my questions. The level of in-depth product knowledge amongst the etrailer staff is second to none. Thanks etrailer!

Ordering and delivery was quick and easy. The SumoSprings really improved the ride of our C Class RV. The only problem was one of the springs had cross threaded threads so I had to tap the treads to make it work. They were delivered in a plain brown box with no manufacture information or instructions. It makes believe the were a returned item, the previous purchaser couldn't get them to work either. I just had the tools and skill to correct the problem.

2006 Dodge Ram Pickup
2006 Dodge Ram 3500 SRW 5.9 Cummins 4x2
Original bump stops were dry rotted and almost not existent. Very easy install. Took about 30 minutes. The Sumo springs are engaged all the time. This may be due to the truck being a 4x2? You can feel the front end is stiffer over bumps and dips of the road, which I feel is ok and not extreme. Towing the 5th wheel I feel the truck handles better than before.
by:
These Sumo springs (as well as the ones I purchased for the rear of my RV) installed easily, fit perfectly and do a great job reducing vibration and improving ride quality. Very pleased.
by:
2017 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 3500
Installed front Sumosprings yesterday but have not driven vehicle yet. The front have full contact with the A-frames.
Should help with van side-to-side sway
.
Shopping around for a set to install on the rear as well.

2022 Winnebago Navion Motorhome
I’ve made several purchases from eTrailer and have been satisfied every time! Recently bought front and rear Sumo helper springs. Installation was a breeze. They have helped reduce the side to side sway caused by wind, freeway traffic and rough roads. So far im very happy with them.

2019 Chevrolet Express Van
Installed Sumo Springs on my 2019 Chevy 4500 motorhome, I was looking for ride improvement without breaking the bank. These days so many products are marketed well but never match the performance that was promised. That is not the case with Sumo Springs!!! I am very pleased with the ride improvement, sway is gone when transitioning from different levels of pavement and the shock of bumps is 50% better!! Installed myself on front and back in about 1 hour, front ended up about 3/8” higher after a couple days, got front end alignment done but didn’t need any adjustment. Finished a 400 mile road day today and my wife and I are very pleased. Excellent product!!

That's awesome to hear, Edwin! Where did you head off to?

by:
these look like the perfect thing for my tired old helper springs, I put SumoSprings on my rear axel of my Jeep a year ago and the have made that ride much better hoping for the same with these.
by:
Mercedes-Benz Sprinter
Sumo springs greatly reduced body sway on my 2021 Mercedes Sprinter.
by:
2009 Winnebago Adventurer Motorhome
Have not had a chance to install yet but seem to be a lot better than what was on my RV. One thing I have noticed is the old part screws into a nut welded on the frame and the new SumoSpings bolt is to small to use the welded nut. So installation would be a lot easier if you could just screw it in.
by:
Sumo Springs really helped with the bumps in the front of the 2019 Ford E350 Winnebago! Very happy with them. Super easy install even though a bit awkward to reach the spot.
by:
Very easy installation. Would be nice if they were about 2” longer to get contact sooner but they were a good replacement for the hollow stock bump stops.
by:
Springs arrived on time without any damage. Installation was completed in about a half hour with a 10mm socket, 3” extension and ratchet to remove the stock bump block on our Ford E450. Then just thread the Sumo Spring in place of the removed block. This was the easiest upgrade I’ve done so far.
by:
Put these on a Sprinter and what a positive difference they made. One can still feel the poor shape of our roads but no more jarring as was the case before. Definitely worth it.
by:
toyota Tacoma
Springs are good, working well. My Tacoma is stock (no lift). With the front end jacked up and wheel/tires totally suspended I was not able to get the springs mounted. I had to cut off about 1/4 inch of threads to get them into position to screw then in. Once that was done everything was ok.
by:
gmc Sierra
Installation in a 2022 Sierra 2500HD was easy, used large Channel locks to remove factory, new ones popped in by blocking them with wood wedge while vehicle was jacked up and releasing jack quickly so all weight would come down at once.
Only have aprox 100 miles on new Bump Stops but ride feels smoother as they are engaged at rest, unlike factory that engage on bumps. Need more miles to fully review.
by:
2004 Workhorse W-Series
These Sumo springs were a great upgrade. So easy to install, less than 20 minutes.

It was a great investment. It truly helped with the front end bouncing. I look forward to adding a set to the rear.

@Deborah Glad to hear it! Whenever you decide to throw some SumoSprings on the back of your 2004 Workhorse W-Series chassis you'll be looking for the Kit # SSR-280-54-1.
by:
Ordering was easy and shipping was quick. Installation was Super easy, took longer to lift Motorhome and set Jack stands then to install The SumoSprings.
Ride was much smoother and body roll was much improved.
by:
Installation was a straightforward and easy. The SumoSprings made a huge difference in the handling of the RV. The large sway left to right from wind or passing semi trucks has been effectively eliminated make the RV much more comfortable to drive.
by:
2025 Thor Quantum Motorhome
I installed front and rear on our 2025 Thor Quantum KW29. Very easy install for the front, rear's were a bit more work but nothing too difficult. My wife primarily drives the RV, it is "hers" :). She immediately noticed the difference in ride quality, less side-to-side rock/roll and was very pleased. Therefore, I am pleased. I look forward to a couple thousand mile trip shortly - that will make/ brake the four stars vs. five.
by:
2014 Ford Van
Very easy to install. I have not put very many miles on Rv but have noticed that there is much less swaying when going over uneven driveways. After installing these and and safe t plus steering it drives a lot better.
