All right, you've got your Telluride, you're going on a trip. You even got the third row seating but it's full of dogs and kids. You need more room. Here's a popular accessory. It's the Rhino Rack Roof Rack System on our 2023 Kia Telluride. So one of the most popular ways of adding more cargo space to your Telluride without adding length to your vehicle like with a cargo carrier or bike rack, would be this roof mounted system and then you could do a cargo carrier up on top to give you added space.
These roof racks are just great for maximizing the space on your Telluride. If you have hitch mounted accessories that are already in use, say with a tow bar if you're towing something, or a hitch-mounted bike rack or cargo carrier, this space up here is gonna be a premium for you if you're hauling kayaks or more bikes. So let's talk about the crossbars. There are an aerodynamic shape that just means it's gonna be less wind noise for you going down the road. These end caps here, if you want maximum anti-theft these can be replaced with a locking end cap on it.
These are 54 inches long and they're gonna add three and a half inches of height from the top of your rail to the top of the crossbar. The final thoughts on the roof rack system Look, I like this system. There is one thing though that we probably need to take note of is if you have t-track accessories, it's accessible enough but one thing I don't like is that you'll have to peel up the rubber and then figure out where you want your accessory, cut the rubber strips and then put it back down. So it's okay if you have one accessory that you use all the time, but if you have multiple accessories it could get a little I don't know, a little cumbersome up here trying to cut the rubber and put everything back in here. Other than that, I think they're well built.
I like every contact surface that against the Kia versus this is either rubber or rubberized. They're quiet going down the road. They're strong, they're sturdy. If you still think that these are the right racks for you go ahead and check out our install that's coming up next. Okay, so let's begin our installation on our crossbars.
Now we went ahead and fitted one up on the Kia already. So you can kind of see what the finished product is gonna look like. The Rhino Rack system is pretty easy to assemble. You're gonna have the two feet to come with it, the end caps, the crossbars, and you'll have a key. We put ours on a lanyard and it's probably not a bad idea, 'cause the kids are gonna run off with this. Your dog might run off with this, who knows But we'll go ahead and we'll flip up these tabs and we can loosen them. If you go counterclockwise, it's gonna loosen the feet down here that actually grip the rail on the Kia. We're gonna open that up and when you press this up it's gonna release the collar in here. That's actually what locks the crossbar down. So we'll go ahead and grab this and we'll take the crossbar and slide the foot in like so. And then we can put our end cap on. And these are a theft deterrent and this is what this key does. It's a star key and we'll just go ahead and give that a quarter turn and that locks it on. And we'll go ahead and do the same process for the other side. So with the feet assembled on the crossbar you wanna make sure that you've got 'em open enough. And we're gonna go ahead and slide this up. Now Rhino Rack does have some recommended distances to set these up. I went ahead and just placed some blue painters tape on the Kia here and at the maximum so you could see what the distance could be here. And just go ahead and set these down. Now just a quick note, if you open these up too much it actually locks the feet onto the crossbar and you can't do any adjustments. So there is like this sweet spot right here in the middle, somewhere in the middle that you'll be able to adjust the feet and it'll still have enough of a gap here to grab your rail. So we'll go ahead and set that down. There is a groove in your rail here that this foot will slide into and we'll go ahead and we have that set. We'll go look at the other side. And we have this foot set on the rail. Next thing you wanna do, you'll notice that the crossbar can slide one way or the other. So you want to make (taps lightly) this in the center. You can get a tape measure or you can just eyeball it, but that'll straighten it up. And then the only thing we need to do to tighten the crossbar and the feet to the Kia, is turn the knobs clockwise on both sides. So you wanna go ahead and start on one side and the minute you start to feel tension flip around to the other side. This side feels pretty good. We've got some good tension on it. We can go ahead and torque down the other side. As you can see, these things really do a good job. They grip the Kia well. Now one of the features I do like about the Rhino Rack system here, a single key will lock all four of your feet to the Kia. So it's just a another theft deterrent. And that was a look at the Rhino Rack roof rack on our 2023 Kia Telluride.
