Features to know about

Add Rooftop Cargo Space Without Drilling Into Your Roof

DEK mounts to a fixed point on your rig so you don't have to drill.

When you're trying to carry bigger gear, drilling into your roof and guessing placement can feel like a big step. This DEK platform mounts to your vehicle's fixed factory points, so you can add a full rooftop platform without drilling. The result is a clean, low-profile fit, and you've skipped the "hope it works" feeling that comes with drilling holes.

Bring the Big Stuff and Keep Your Cabin Clear

DEK can be used for your rooftop tent or cargo cases.

The platform gives you a flat, sturdy place to strap down bulky gear for trips and weekend runs. It's built with metal construction and stainless steel hardware, and it's rated for up to 300 lbs, so you know exactly what your rack can handle. Just make sure you follow your vehicle manufacturer's roof load rating too, and use the lower of the two limits when you're loading up. The payoff is simple: gear stays out of the cabin, and unloading at the trailhead or campsite feels organized instead of chaotic.

T-Channels That Let You Build It Around Your Gear

DEK has integrated T-channels so you can add whatever gear your adventure calls for.

You can strap down your gear and call it good, but the integrated T-channels let you add mounts and adjust your setup as the seasons change. That means you can mount compatible bike, kayak, ski, and snowboard racks, including the Kuat Piston SR (KU32VR - sold separately), and keep your gear locked in without eating up space inside your vehicle.

Included Light Bar That Aims Forward, Not Back at You

DEK over the hood lighting won't glare back at you.

This rack includes the DEK light bar, built with Diode Dynamics C2 Pro LED pods in a custom housing. The beam is shaped to throw light over your hood instead of washing back into your eyes, so you get usable light out front without fighting glare in your line of sight. With five driving pods throwing light ahead, the next curve, dip, or animal doesn't come out of nowhere. Imagine pulling into a trailhead or campsite at dusk and flipping on the roof-mounted pods - suddenly you can see what you're doing while you unload, strap down, or set up. Instead of fumbling with headlamps or working in your headlights' shadows, you get bright, usable light out front that makes the whole stop feel easier.

Crossbars You Can Shift to Clear Sunroofs and Antennas

DEK adjustable crossbars give you complete flexibility in how you carry your gear.

The adjustable crossbars let you shift placement to clear your sunroof and antenna, so you can keep the platform on your roof without giving up the open-sunroof drive on a nice day. You can also position your mounts where they work best for your gear.

Swapped installation of the nose with my Kuat DEK universal crossbar mount 47x60, so actually installed the non-lit nose as shown in photo, just because I don't need the lights right now but might want to use them later. The non-lit is expected to allow me to more easily carry materials longer than the rack without hitting the nose. I really like the styling of the DEK and it looks like it belongs on the 4Runner as if the factory would have installed it. Very low profile but still allowing room to hand wash and wax under the load bars or they can be easily relocated or removed as needed. I installed only half of the load bars until I need the others. One at the front and rear extremes and two in the middle. This allows for bolt-down basket in the rear as well as smaller bolt down items in the middle and full access to sun roof, while still permitting carrying items longer than the rack when needed. This shows the versatility and functionality of this great system. The mounting feet are smaller than mount points of factory installed side rails, so there is a gap between the drip moulding and the mounting feet. The tail piece seemed to be shorter than intended, and shorter than my universal DEK 47x60, causing the side rails to taper inward toward the rear resulting in load bars not fitting between the rails in the rear 1/3 and the bolt holes in the rails not aligning with bolt holes in the roof mounting feet. I corrected this 1/8 inch spacing issue by spreading the rails very slightly with c-clamps against the mounting feet until the bolt holes aligned. This allowed for mounting of the rails to the feet and corrected the rail separation to allow free relocation of the load bars in the rear whenever their mounting bolts are loosened. This appears to be the same tail piece as used with universal DEK but it had no issues with load bar movements, so thinking it was just a one-off unit that was not made exactly as intended or something happened in transit. Either way, it works great now that rails were forced into the proper spacing to match the mounting feet. The rails needed only about 1/16 inch deflection each, so don't think it will be a problem but have asked customer support just in case. They have not yet had time to respond. Research yielded various suggestions on sealants for roof racks at the mounting points to roof to prevent water from entering interior through the holes in the roof. Instructions suggest exterior silicone but some other sources suggested marine grade flexible medium strength adhesive sealants for no shrinkage and longer lasting flexibility. I wasn't sure which to use. Install instructions are for 5G 4Runner instead of 6G but parts are labeled clearly enough to infer what is different between 5G and 6G, which seem to be mainly overall length and mounting point locations. Install went effortlessly. Since we did not have team available to lift the 77 LB rack onto the vehicle, I removed 5 of the load bars to make it light enough for even my weak arms to lift onto the 4Runner. With quilt covering the roof, lifting from rear onto the rear mounting feet allowed it to easily slide forward across the mounting feet into its correct position. Had to be careful to keep the front metal attached feet on the quilt until positioned onto the drip moulding. Much easier to assemble than the DEK universal crossbar and the load bars can be positioned anywhere instead of only the discrete points permitted by the universal DEK. After putting EPDM rubber edge trim on the top of non-lit nose air dam and the bottom edge of the nose case, the air dam stopped rattling and the wind noise went to virtually zero. The lit version appears to be less aerodynamic and does not have air dam, so I would not expect its rear plate to rattle as did the non-lit version. I talked to Kuat customer service first and they did not state any objections to me trying the rubber edge trim to eliminate the air dam rattle but did say proper adjustment of the air dam mounting screws to find the sweet spot should also work. Since I could not find the "sweet spot" on mine, I just added the rubber edge trim to completely stop the air dam rattle. Probably would not have had the rattle if I had used the lit nose that came with this unit. I expect to put it on later once it is needed. Mainly using to transport large items in public areas, so could not use the lights right now anyway. It appears to be a great product that suits my needs, looking really good while it does it.

Nice 'Runner Chip! How do you like it? I have a '21 Explorer that I love, but I want to move it down the road before I have any problems..... I've had my eye on a 4Runner for quite awhile, but input from somebody with first-hand experience would be great!

@MikeL This website says our 4Runner is 2024 but it is 2025 (Gen6). The 2025 4Runner for us was a migration from Gen 4 4Runner (V8) to Jeep JK Wrangler V6 2door, to Outback V6, and finally to the 2025 (Gen6) Hybrid turbo 4 4Runner Off Road Premium. Each had the similar torque that we enjoy while driving. The G6 4Runner drives a lot like the Outback V6 by its stiffer suspension, about the same footprint, and low end torque but just taller. This 4Runner drives with a sports car feel. You feel every bump in the road but it does not lean on turns and frequently gives the sensation of a rocket pack. Best to test drive since might not suit everyone, although we love it. Enjoyed on recent 1200 mile round trip ride (26+ MPG) and running local errands (at about the same MPG). This rack should extend its do-all ability to carry bigger (but still light) stuff as an occasional alternative to hauling with truck. We love this rack and glad/lucky that Kuat chose Toyota as a vehicle vendor to attach their direct mounts. Kuat customer service has quickly advised me on each question that I raised with them regarding my installation and gave very satisfactory responses.
