Whereas belt-driven fans use up power from the engine to turn, electric fans do not, thus removing any unnecessary load and increasing both fuel economy and horsepower. In addition, you do not have to worry about an electric fan's slowing down at low RPM, as many belt-driven fans do, so you are guaranteed sufficient airflow regardless of the vehicle speed.
Before purchasing an electric fan, be sure to determine the CFM (cubic feet per minute) requirements for your engine. And remember, engines that have been modified or vehicles often used for towing may require additional CFM. There is no limit to the number of fans you can install, as long they all fit appropriately and are mounted on the same side of your radiator so that they do not cancel each other out.
Two types of turn-on sources are available for this fan. The Derale Lighted On/Off Switch for Electric Fans (D16740) allows for manual control of your fan so that you can choose when to turn it on and off. Thermostatic controls, on the other hand, send a signal to the fan, directing it to shut off when fluid temperatures reach an appropriate level, thus saving power. Once the temperature climbs again and additional cooling is needed, the fan is automatically turned back on. Thermostat switches can be single-stage with pre-set temperatures - D16735, D16738, D16739, D16720 and D16721 - or adjustable - D16778 and D16779.

installation was simple came with all said parts and both work great.
The quality of 500CFM Derale 8" Tornado Electric Fan appears to be good. The build quality is solid and it pulls a lot of air plus it's quiet. Time will tell how long it will last. Also I would like to emphasize the amazing service and delivery I received from etrailer. Very happy with my purchase and experience.
Installed just as advertised. Installed it using the single stage relay/thermostat (#16735). Car is a classic (1965), so plenty of room to work, took about 3 hours. Hardest part was deciding how to run/hide the wiring for a clean look. I broke one of the install pads, but extras can be obtained (#13001), about 6$ or so. Came on/ went off just as expected. Good product! Barry.
I installed the 5 inch fan on transmission cooler located behind the seat, and I used your 10 inch fan on the radiator. Both are perfect for this cummins diesel turbo charged rat rod. I like your product and service.

First off, I am truly impressed with etrailer's extensive info and product demos they offer on their website. I have purchased several items from etrailer and have never been disappointed. And shipping is fast. Regarding the Derale electric fan It works great to this day. But at etrailer and never look back.
The fan fit in there perfectly, I’m glad you guys had the info of this fan online! It was perfect for the cooler! It is install to where it pulls the air into the trans cooler and pushes air thru my condensor radiator, it is doings an awesome job! I would give you guys 5 stars but the cable wasn’t long enough, specially when three connections need to be on the back of the switch. I also wish you guys would have added the 25 amp fuse that the instructions asked for. Luckily I had a fuse and some extra cable laying around to make it work. I am happy with the product and it works like a champ.
My 1990's-vintage garden tractor had a hydraulic cooler crammed into the engine compartment, so I remotely located it and am now cooling it with your Derale 7" Tornado Electric Fan. It's working great! It will be so much easier to service the system. Your website did a fantastic job describing the fan, and ordering/delivery was flawless. Thanks!
