Hey everyone. Shane here with etrailer.com. Today we're gonna be taking a look at the magnetic door holders by Bauer Products. These are gonna be great for your basement doors, or for your storage doors on your campers. And if we compare them to like your typical shocks that you have, they only allow you to open your door about halfway to maybe three-quarters of the way. With adding the magnets on, it allows us to open our doors pretty much flat up against our wall to give us plenty of space.
Now, if we compare them to, let's say, we don't have the shocks on, and we have the latches like this that would hold your doors up. The problem with these are that you still got a lot of movement in there. So let's say the wind blows. Now we have our door handle banging up against the side of our camper. But these are also plastic, so these tend to break quite a bit.
When you get into those cooler conditions, this plastic can get brittle, and again, they start falling apart. Magnetic, or the magnets, these are gonna be glass-filled nylon, so they're gonna hold up in extreme conditions. You don't have to worry about them breaking. They're gonna hold 10 pounds each. And if you double them, so if you have a negative and a positive, you double that.
You can get them in a couple of different ways. You can do it how we did it here. Since we had the slam latches which a lot of the newer campers are coming out with them, if you had to slam latches, it's gonna require a negative and a positive. If you don't have slam latches, there are kits that have the striker plates, which the striker plate we just mount on the wall, or mount on your door and it's gonna work the same way. Because your magnet has somewhere to stick to.
Now we've gone over some of the features, let's walk you through how to get them installed. For your installation you determine where you're gonna put your magnet. We're gonna put it on the bottom of our door handle here. We'll center it. And then we'll take the two screws that come included and secure it to the door. We're using the negative and a positive. Insert two screws into the side that's gonna mount to your wall. Put them together. We'll rotate this up. And we're gonna push on the door a little bit. And then it puts two marks where your screws are gonna go. Once you get your second one put on, you're gonna repeat the process for any other door you're adding magnets too. That's gonna do it for a look at an installation on the magnetic door holder by Bauer products..

I ordered one negative and one positive substantial difference in price between the 2. But they’re both the same they repel each other so basically I got a non-functional set up. And I don’t know how to tell if they’re both positive or if they’re both negative sort of sucks. Because now I don’t know which one to order to replace

Replacing all the door holders on my trailer. These were an almost identical replacement to the badly weathered originals. They're a scosh taller. But same length & same screw hole distance. And they work great. At least..., for those that interface with a steel door handle. The others interface with a strike plate or opposite-charged magnet. But I didn't heed the warnings, OR take the time to figure that out before ordering ALL negative charged magnets. So..., just ordered two positive-charged magnets. Don't be ME! Pay attention to your old holders. Which are positive. Which are negative. Or which are strike plates. In my case, both the old magnets & old strike plates looked identical. And that got me firmly entrenched in fantasyland. Oh well. Live & learn, eh? Oh. BTW. 4 instead if 5 stars? Cuz the supplied screws are very long. Of all the units - only one uses the long screws. I was able to use the old shorties. But if I din't have them - it would have been a trip to the hardware store. Would I recommend them? Oh yea. Would I buy them again? Absolutely.

I wanted to let you know that you will want to order part # BA58VR to match with the negative magnet. You can return part # BA26VR which is 0.75 inches thick versus the negative magnet which is 0.5 inches thick. I will send return instructions to you in a separate email.
