Protect your investment

If you aren't using a surge protector, you're taking a big risk. While spikes caused by lightning can damage your electrical system and appliances, there are common electrical issues that can be just as dangerous. Choosing a surge protector with advanced features will help you protect your RV.

Beyond Basic Surge Protection

The most affordable RV surge protectors will provide basic protection from voltage spikes caused by lightning or other transmission issues. They can typically withstand a few minor spikes, or only one major spike, before they need to be completely replaced.

Power Watchdog surge protectors go beyond the basics. Plug it in before connecting your RV to get a clear indication of any wiring issues at your park pedestal. In the event of a major spike, you can replace the surge protection module itself rather than the entire unit. The modules are plugged in without soldering, so you don't need to be an expert electrician to make an easy repair. In fact, the only tool you need is a screwdriver.

Information at Hand

The Power WatchDog smartphone app

The Power Watchdog app lets you connect to your surge protector via Bluetooth. You can monitor your energy usage, making it easy to diagnose any ongoing energy issues you may be experiencing. When voltage increases or decreases to risky levels, you will be notified right away. You can also reset your surge protector without stepping outside.

We have been using the Watchdog for the better half of the season since we had to replace our power cable. It had a burnt end due to a poor hookup at a campsite. Nowwe can test our hookup before we connect our trailer. There is also an app that helps monitor the connection. The best thing about the Watchdog is that the replaceable surge protector.

Its been well over a year that we have been using the Watchdog and there have been at least three times that we have connected to fault outlets. We have also survived two power surges in the past year. I highly recommend using a Watchdog or any reputable surge protector to protect your RV.

Now that I've had a chance to use this product, I can give it a thumbs up. Real peace of mind that my rig is safe from electrical errors. Plus the phone app to show me exactly what my power needs are.

by:

great product. I really like being able to have the app on my phone and see the power usage on it too. being able to replace the part that blows when there is a surge is very handy instead of buying a new unit. id also like to say how awesome and helpful etrailer is also. I needed assistance awhile back and they seemed more than eager to help me.
thank you etrailer for being great and competitive on prices too.

still working great. no complaints

by:

The Watchdog is a very good product. Only type we will buy.

by:

We have had this for just this year and working as expected. We have not yet had a site with a bad connection, but it confirms a good electric source and the surge protection in the event of a storm or site fault.

@MargaretB We're glad to hear your # HU97FR Surge Protector is working well for you!

by:

Have been using it for a year now, works great. Love the Bluetooth to monitor power usage.

by:

The surge protector works great!

by:

We feel real secure in this product. Has always worked just as it is supposed to. Glad we purchased a product we can repair if blown instead of having to purchase a new surge protector after an event.

by:

This device provides valuable information for awareness of power usage in our 30 Amp RV. This allows more efficient operation of the electrical supply so that we can manage 120 volt AC equipment to avoid tripping breakers.

by:

The power watchdog is an excellent product!! I am very pleased with my purchase from etrailer. The app makes it simple to check your usage. Definitely recommended.

by:

We camp at state parks and thier maintence is not always the best. We plug into posts which are very scarey. The surge protector gives us peace of mind that our motorhome's electrical system is safe.

by:

Im rating this based on the 50amp which I previously used. Hey E-Trailer, stop sending review requests 2 seconds after an item is delivered. Give someone a chance to use it first!!!

by:

I like the option of Bluetooth to see the details of my voltage and amp usage. Also setting of parameters to alert you on issues

Dan

Works great, no issues at all

by:

I really wanted to like these mirrors, but I have to give them 2 stars as they vibrated so much they were literally unusable and I couldn't really see out of them. I made sure the thumb screws were completely tight as well and they still shook. When returning home from my trip I discovered that they left adhesive on both of my mirrors from the foam pads that I had to remove (see pic). I think I would have been better off to order a set of mirrors that snapped onto my existing mirrors and had a tighter fit which would cause less vibration.

by:

Ready to test it out camping

  • What Parameters Should I Use on the Portable Power Watchdog Surge Protector
The Portable Power Watchdog Surge Protector with Bluetooth - 30 Amp # HU97FR allows you to watch for surges while connected to a parks shore power. The acceptable power range is between 104 volts - 132 volts. I would set your parameters slightly above the floor of 104 on the low end and slightly under the ceiling of 132 on the high end. This gives you a small buffer gap before you are outside of the acceptable limits.

  • Does 50A Male to 30A Female Power Adapter Have Acces to 50A Power
The Mighty Cord RV Power Cord Adapter # A10-5030FHVP won't be providing two 120V legs rated for 50A - it will be limited to one side. With that being said, I highly recommend having a surge protector rated for 30A installed as well just to make sure you don't blow any fuses or damage anything. This adapter doesn't work as a limiter as well so you'll technically still have access to 50A worth of power. If you don't already have one I recommend checking out the Power Watchdog Surge Protector...
