Today we're going to be taking a look at the Valterra Replacement Cam Lock with Key for Hatch Doors. This unit is going to either replace or add a lock to a hatch door on your camper or RV. The key number is 751 and the unit is going to come with 1 key and 1 lock core. The overall length of the unit measuring from the front of the unit to the back of the screw head, that's going to give us a measurement of about pretty close to 1-5/16 to 1-3/8, right in that area. From the back of the head to the back of that screw head, so from the back of the flange portion here, it's going to measure about 1-1/8. Then, from the front of the unit to the back side of the lever, that portion right there, that brass portion, that's also going to measure about 1-1/8 of an inch. Now, on the cylinder it's got a flat side on each side of the unit, so measuring flat side to flat side measures 5/8 of an inch, threaded side to threaded side measured about 3/4 of an inch on this unit. I'm going to go ahead and disassemble the unit and we're going to take a measurement of just the cylinder.
That's going to be measuring from the back of the flange to the very back of the unit. It's going to give us a measurement of pretty close to 1 inch, maybe 15/16 of an inch, right in that area. Now, on some of these replacement locks the lever changes. You can see the design here, but the overall length of that measuring edge to edge is about 1-3/8 of an inch long. It's a pretty simple installation. You'd want to remove your old lock core from your hatch door, place in your new cylinder, and then you can thread the nut on for a secure fit.
You want to get that all the way tightened down. That can be tightened using a 7/8-inch wrench, and then you want to secure the lever in place, fits over that green fitting right there. Then, this small screw with that serrated washer simply just threads in, and that can be tightened with a flat-head or Phillips head screwdriver. Then, again, this is going to be key number 751, fits in there, and it just controls that lever. That's going to do it for today's look at the Valterra Replacement Cam Lock with Key for Hatch Doors.
