Video Transcript for A Closer Look at the Thule Replacement Lock Cylinder

I'm Matt with etrailer. Today, we're gonna be talking about Thule's replacement lock core. Replacing a lock core is pretty easy to do, and if I had to choose between the key or the lock core, most cases, the lock core's gonna be a little bit easier because the thing with this is a lot of times, these lock cores don't have a number on it depending on when you got yours. So, the newer ones typically don't. Some of the older ones will have it. But if you don't have that number on here or you don't have access to that number, it's gonna be hard to get that matched up to the right key.

So, there's a couple things you can do. If you still have your key, you can just simply look here. Right underneath the handle is gonna give you that number, and then you can find the lock core that matches it. But if you don't have that key and you just need a whole new set, you can actually find a whole new set here on our website. Now, when it comes to installing this, this doesn't take a whole lot.

You do need to make sure you do have a master key. Also, you can find that on our website. The way this works, you'll push that key in here and it will retract the sides and secure it in there. With that in there, now we can lock it down. But there's not a whole lot else to it.

I think these are just gonna be great if you need to replace a lock core or two on your roof rack or any of your other accessories you might have. Now, of course, if you guys have any other questions, let us know here at etrailer. And again, I'm Matt, and thanks for watching.

  • Looking To Replace A Broken Key For A JetBag Explorer Roof Box
As the JetBag Explorer has been out of production for a while now, it does make replacing this a little more difficult, but not impossible. We will not have a direct replacement for this key number, but I do have a couple other options. First will be the Replacement Lock Core and Key for SportRack Explorer Cargo Box # SR03807. This will require the removal of your current locks, but we have had people use this in the past. You'll need to make sure your lock core looks like this one to...

  • Thule T1 Hitch Lock Troubleshooting
Sometimes you have to use some force with new keys and lock cores as they haven't been 'broken in' yet. I would try tapping the key lightly to make sure it is fully seated into the lock core. Make sure you are using the key that was provided with the Thule T1 # TH9041, assuming that the lock core is the original one that came with the bike rack. You could also try using the other key that was included to determine if there is an issue with just one of the keys. If you are not using the...

  • Replacement Key Needed for Sears X-Cargo Box with N160 Lock Cylinder
We do have the Replacement Key # THKEYN160 for your Sears X-Cargo box if it has the N160 cylinder. I don't think the N series cylinders go up to N760 so the N160 should be what you need. It sounds like your cylinder is scratched or worn out which is making it difficult to read the number. If you get the N160 key and it doesn't fit then I recommend just getting a N160 lock core # THLOCKN160 and using the Universal Change Key # 853-1251 to swap out your current cylinder with one that you...
