Hi there truck and SUV owners. Today we're gonna be taking a look at Dee Zee's line of four inch Oval Nerf Bars. These are available in either a black or a polished stainless finish. We're showing off the black today. These are custom fit so you do want to make sure you use your Fit Guide when ordering these because they do have different lengths depending on your cab options, whether you just got a single crew or a double cab. So make sure you punch those into your Fit Guide.
This is what our Nerf Bars are gonna look like when they're installed. You can see it does run the length of the cab. So both the front and rear passengers are gonna enjoy an easier step in and out of the vehicle. Four inch wide steps gonna be great for all your passengers, whether they're larger like me with big ole feet, they should have plenty of area to be able to step on there. And if you've got smaller children, then they'll easily be able to use this as well.
We can see that when we're standing on it, it's nice and sturdy. We're kind of rocking. There is a little bit of movement out of the Tube Set, but for the most part, it's the suspension of our truck that's kind of doing all the movement there. In addition to making it easier to get in and out of the vehicle, it's also gonna make it safer for you because if you're in any kind of inclement weather where it might be muddy or icy or wet conditions down below, if you have to step up real high, your footing's not as sure down here below. Adding an extra step here is gonna give you more sheer footing getting in.
And the footstep pad on top here has raised surfaces so those debris like mud and snow, things like that, that are stuck to your shoes, they can get down into the grooves in there and your foot will make contact with the raised surfaces, giving you that traction that you need. And while these are great for children or people that are mobily challenged to be able to get in and out of the vehicle more easily, I also really like it for your roof mounted accessories. 'Cause I'm a pretty tall guy. I'm about 6'4" and even here standing up, I can't see on top of this truck. And if I had a roof rack on here and any roof accessories, I'd have a real hard time getting up there.
But when you add in a Nerf Bar like this, now I could easily see up here on top. So if I've got a cargo basket or something up here, I can grab the gear that I need to get out of it. And I could easily get that gear in and out without straining myself. Down here below, from the way your arms bend, you're only getting up maybe about 10% into the roof. Now I can reach all the way across the center line. So with the bar on the other side, I should be able to get anything out that's on the roof. And with Dee Zee providing custom fit brackets for all of their Nerf Bar sets here, as long as you're using our Fit Guide, you'll get the appropriate one. And we're also gonna have videos here at etrailer to show you how to get those installed. And that completes our look at Dee Zee's line of their four inch Oval Nerf Bars..

I purchased these about a year ago and would highly recommend them to anyone. Took about an hour and a half (at most) to install on my 2016 GMC 2500HD and look great.
Mixed feelings about these- at the price point I was expecting heavier tubing, they seemed very light gauge. I watched several online videos on installation, they talked about a plastic end cap that went between the frame and the tube itself to keep the mating surfaces from becoming damaged and rusting, they were not included with this set of bars - just not part of the kit? Or forgotten in packing? There were several pages of instructions, but no torque specifications for the bars nor the factory bolts used as attachment points- just "tighten", yeah... ok....
On the up they look good, and are very nice steps in and out of the cab. Time will be the judge of quality.
The nurf bars were easy for me to install, and are very sturdy and wide enough that my wife and i feel very secure using them.
I installed a set of these on a 2016 Silverado WT with regular cab and long bed with the intention of making it easier for my short wife to get in and out of the truck.
Installation was easy by simply following the instructions, but I did have to reference the truck's service manual to find the exact torque specs of the body mount bolts the step mounting brackets intercept. There is a bit of leeway in the bracket design that allows you to make the steps perfectly parallel with the bottom of the cab. The plastic end caps that go between the side steps and the mounting brackets seemed to compress quite a bit while torquing the side step bolts themselves, but the final product is solid.
After one year I can report these are still solidly attached to the truck and performing as expected. I haven't had any problems with bolts backing out. The finish is still intact and looks good when clean. The rubberized side steps haven't come off. Nothing has broken. I notice a little bit of flex when my wife or older son step on the side steps (maybe a quarter inch to half inch of movement under load), but nothing to indicate these are going to fail anytime. I put the front of the truck on ramps when changing oil, and I can still get under the truck from the front and sides even with the steps in place (with the stock suspension).
Overall I'm happy with the product. It does what I needed it to do at a reasonable price.
