Hey everybody, Ryan here at etrailer. Today we're gonna be taking a look at the K Source Custom fit extendable side Towing Mirror. So right off the bat, you can pick these mirrors up as a set. So the driver and passenger side, or they're also available individually. You will want to verify your fit by using our fit guide. So, one of the cool things about these is them being a direct replacement, you can either just freshen your truck up, or if you had damaged ones, these are gonna pop right in.
But it seems like what a lot of people are using these for is an upgrade. You really have a couple of options. One, get some type of universal fit type towing mirror or, a towing mirror that kind of clamps onto that factory housing. And those you know, you have to install 'em and take 'em, take 'em off and put 'em on all the time. You know I can see where that can kinda get annoying.
Or an option like this just to replace your whole mirror entirely. And you know, if it we're me and I was pulling a lot of trailers around, I'd probably go for something like this. Not only is it more convenient, you get that big lens, but I think it kind of makes the truck look a little tougher too, at least in my opinion you know, if that's your thing. But right off the bat even with the mirror in this position, it helps out a lot. But let's say if you have something really big, like say this pontoon behind us, you can actually pull this out, and it extends pretty far.
So I think it's safe to say your bases are pretty much covered here. You should be able to see everything you need to and then some, with a setup like this. With that said, it is tight. Some people have mentioned that, that it's kinda difficult to pull out. I don't really think it's too bad.
I mean, you have to put some effort into it but, honestly I would probably want it like that. I feel like if it was loose, then you would deal with this thing rattling around and bouncing around on you. I mean, when it's this far extended, it wouldn't take much for that to happen so, I would be glad it's tight to be honest with you, that way everything stays sturdy and you get a good clear image whenever you're looking into the lens. So just to kinda give you guys an example of what you're actually gonna see out of the lens. Here's the big picture and that top portion of the mirror, we just have so much more surface area, you're gonna be able to cover so much more ground. So, even with a big pontoon boat like this I mean these things are pretty big. You can still see the tires of the trailer and you can still pretty much see around it completely, which is convenient. And then that brings me to my next point, that lens here on the bottom, that really throws out that picture and what we're gonna be able to keep our eye on. So, even if I come up and walk, essentially what would be into the next lane if you're in the highway, you can still see me and you can still have a good idea on what's going on around you. So, one thing with the mirrors is you're gonna be able to retain those features that your truck already came equipped with. So in our case, our mirror is already power. Okay so we're still able to adjust set up our lens like we normally would and just like a factory deal. Granted the bottom one is manual. So you will have to do that by hand. And it even has the turn signals installed in there so, everything's plug and play. Works just like it would right out of the factory. But with that said, keep in mind, these type of features are only gonna work if your truck already has 'em. So let's say, if you have like a work truck package for example, that the original mirrors don't have the turn signals and they're not power. You can't take the power set that has the turn signals, put 'em in and expect 'em to work. They're just not gonna be wired up from it out of the factory so, if that's your case, you don't really need this type, they actually have these mirrors in a couple of different configurations, scroll through a little bit and find the ones that are gonna be best suited for your particular truck. So I just wanted to show you guys a quick comparison of our new versus old model, clearly with this being a towing mirror we have that advantage of it going out further and giving us more surface area. But, I really just wanted to focus on how this is gonna be more or less just a direct replacement. So, new one comes with the new seal. And if we look even at the wiring connectors, so this is factory, this is new. I mean, they're pretty much identical and they're high quality. You know they put this coating on there for ya. So everything's in a sheath and they even go as far as to give you these new push pin fasteners, which is convenient. A lot of times you end up destroying the old ones whenever you're trying to pull 'em out so. They're actually in the right place and everything too. So, about as good as he can get when it comes to a direct replacement type part. So at the end of the day you know, if I was planning on doing quite a bit of towing, I would probably do the exact same thing our neighbor did here today, and just swap out the whole mirror assembly, as opposed to trying to make it work with some strap on universal mirror or even the clip on custom fit ones for that matter. You know those are good for, every now and again on the weekend doing your towing but, if you're gonna be pulling a trailer a lot, really can't go wrong. Received the mirrors quickly and well packaged.
They seem well built and were easy to install! The hardest part of the installation was removing the trim behind the inside door handles! I took a quick look at a YouTube video and it took about an hour and a half.
No shaking or vibrating and I gained puddle lights. They are larger and a little wider than stock when in their collapsed position and give great view when expanded.
I would recommend
Easy install. Came with all hardware incase you drop and/or lose the existing hardware while uninstalling OEM mirrors. No shakes or rattles. Top portion is power adjustable, bottom is manual adjust for viewing angles.
My truck is a Limited and has Blind Spot Alert (BSA) & Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA). These 2 features are lost and throw a dash light to see dealer. The warning is annoying, it towing visibility is more important. I'll follow up with my dealer (who actually recommends these mirrors) to see if the dash lights for these 2 systems can be deactivated.
Watched several videos online for door panel removal. Literally took 3 tools. Flat head screwdriver, needle nose pliers and a 10mm socket with extension. Having never done anything like this, it took 2 hours to install both mirrors by myself.
2011 Silverado 1500 crew cab had standard power adjust mirrors. No turn signals as originally equipped.
Was surprised to gain turn signals in the mirrors as all I did was plug and play. Power adjust works. So I can confirm 2 of 3 features work. Turn signal function an added bonus/new option and power adjustment. Truck doesn't have a heated mirror on off. So not sure that will be working.
Seem to be made of good quality. The mirrors tuck in easily towards the vehicle so they are not sticking out when parked. This is not a powered fold in mirror. It is manual.
Added this for towing. With 20+ inches that should give great line of site down the trailer and also the signal in the mirror alert others that you intend to move over.
Product is exactly as expected. Install was simple. All bolts line up with existing holes in vehicle frame. Ensure you apply the weather stripping on the mirror before install. Pictures and videos online are helpful. Side marker lights and turning signal works on mirrors. Great product! Attached are 3 photos.
What a great upgrade for my 2015 Toyota Tundra SR5! Perfect fit. Only took about 15 minutes per mirror to replace them. I didn't have blinkers or clearance lights on my stock mirrors, but these mirrors plugged right in and now I do. I do confess that they are taking me some time to get used to, but I can now see where my tire hits the ground and still have full view of the side of my truck. I can't wait to use them to pull my new travel trailer. I will no longer be a nervous wreck, constantly adjusting my mirrors so that I don't run into something. The biggest problem I see is that I can no longer park in my parking lot at work without getting out of my truck to fold the mirrors in. I'm not certain, but I would guess they add about 4-5 inches width on each side of the truck. I'm ok with that, because these things are a necessity when towing a big trailer. Thanks Etrailer!
'09 Silverado C1500. I started with the CIPA Slip On mirror extenders, they were okay, economical, but didn't feel I could see along the curb side of the trailer well enough. It was always a guess as to whenI had overtaken a vehicle before making the lane change to the right. Recently bit the bullet and laid out the cash for the K-Source Custom Extendable Towing Mirrors. Wish I would have done this sooner!
I have read reviews about these type replacement mirrors with some noting a shaking or vibration in the main mirror. These are rock solid. I have also seen reference to the mirrors canted upward, arms not parallel to the ground, NOT the case for these when installed on my '09 Silverado. To those not familiar with what was standard for this year model, you could mistake them for OEM. FIt is perfect.
It took a couple drives to get use to the vertical height, as compared to the horizontal width of the OEM mirrors. While a bit of a trade-off, one that I see as well worth it. It has been easy to get the driver side dialed in to completely eliminate the blind spot, still adjusting the passenger side mirror to find that sweet spot to eliminate the blind spot while still maintaining the ability to see the trailer wheels to know where they are tracking.
Haven't towed the 5th wheel yet, will post an update but am confident I will have the visibility along the passenger side to better gauge lane changes to the right.
Installed on 2008 Gmc Sierra Sle. OEM mirrors were power adjust with defrost function. New mirror allowed me to add the turn signal function, however I did check the wiring harness to ensure it was compatible to take this function before the purchase. New mirrors were good quality just as good as OEM if not better. Installed they definately enhance the trucks overall appearance. I will be using these to tow a 30’ travel trailer so the larger mirror surface will help with visibility of the trailer. The only con is the main mirror in the housing does slightly vibrate when hitting bumps in the road, its very minor though and otherwise is stable on smooth surfaces.

These mirrors are for our 03 Yukon for towing a travel trailer.They are condsiderably larger than the OEM mirrors in the collapsed position, the once extended they are almost twice as long.
The only problem I had is the directions are a bit generic and tell you to pry the power window switch panel from the door panel to access the wiring. The picture supplied shows the lock panel being pried off which is correct but the power window is screwed in from the backside so the door panel needs to be removed and then reach behind it to remove the wiring.

The mirrors work great. Nice and sturdy at 70mph even in the slid out position. Installing was straight forward, but took me few hours as I was leaning how to disassemble the door panels for the first time. This is a huge upgrade for a truck with a pickup camper. The small factory mirrors where not cutting it.
These are Quality Mirrors, very sturdy. Took me about an hour on the first side, (learning curve) but the second side was 1/2 of that. Makes the truck look great and can't believe what a difference they make for field of view. As for function my truck was set up for the turn signal and power mirrors and they work great.

This was a fairly easy job, although ripping off the door panels was a little unnerving.
My truck is a 2011 Tundra and had electric/heated mirrors. I was pleasantly surprised that the built in turn signal and running lights now work! Everything was plug and play! Love them!

Installed successfully on 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD, replacing factory mirrors that were power adjustable and heated - no turn signal. Motorized mirror adjustments worked fine. Haven't tested heated mirror yet. Since I did not previously have turn signals in my mirrors, the turn signals did not work on these as expected. May look into a way to make them work later, but no big deal. One improvement that could be made on these mirrors. The manufacturer is aware that the factory mirrors use 3 bolts, and these use 4. It would be nice if they would have included a nut for the 4th bolt, so I wouldn't have had to go search for one. One good thing, on my truck the hole was already there for the 4th bolt, so I didn't have to drill. Taking a trip tomorrow, so will see how they perform on the road. So far as what I have seen, I am happy with this purchase. I have used etrailer in the past and have always been happy with the products they offer.
Very easy install. All functions work even the running lights and turn signals which my factory mirrors didn't have. Will update review after first camping trip to see how they perform with the travel trailer. Installed on 2021 Tundra.
The mirrors look and fit awesome. i got an added bonus as my 08 Tundra was not supposed to be wired for turn signals. Well I ended up with heated,power marker lights and signals. all is good except fot the broken top corner on the PS. found part in box and glued it. chalk this up to shipping handling.
These extendable mirrors for my 2012 Ford Raptor SVT were a perfect fit. I can now safely see all blind spots that I couldn’t see before. Fairly priced and highly recommended.

I purchased a set of these mirrors in September, 2013 for my 2003 Silverado 2500 HD crew cab. I use the truck for pulling trailers to different events during the warm months. I installed them without a problem (even though they came with no instructions). While testing out my new mirrors, I immediately noticed that the upper part of the passenger mirror (the part that is powered by the electric motor) had a significant element of vibration at highway speeds. I contacted eTrailer, who arranged to have a replacement mirror sent to me. Since it was a single mirror, and not part of a set, it took K-Source a couple of weeks to get the replacement mirror to me. I installed the new mirror, but my towing season was over and I never tested it on the highway. This April, I start towing again. The mirror vibrates as bad as the one that was replaced! eTrailer put me in touch with K-Source. Their response was "Sorry, the mirror has a 90-day warranty. You are outside the warranty period". REALLY! After multiple e-mails and phone calls to K-Source, they agreed to "assess" the mirror if I paid to have it shipped to them. They shipped it back to me and said that there was nothing wrong with the mirror, that I must have installed it incorrectly. REALLY! Only the upper pane vibrates, not the body of the mirror or the lower wide-angle mirror. They would not replace it. If you are in the market for this type of mirror, I would suggest you look elsewhere.
Work very well after being installed for a year. As other reviews mention they don’t sit level with out some washer shims on my 2006 GMC 2500HD. My wife likes the a bit higher and it doesn’t bother her that they are not level. Only reason not 5 stars is they require a fair bit of force to extend and retract would be nice if it had a smother sliding mechanism.

No additional issues in the past year, maybe getting harder to pushin in and out. May need to look into lubricating the slides, but concerned lubricate may attract dirt.
