Video Transcript for Yakima BedRock HD Truck Bed Rack with Adjustable Load Extender Review and Installation

Adam: Hi everyone, Adam with etrailer.com. Today we're going to be taking a look at Yakima's BedRock HD truck bed rack, and the adjustable load extender. So this kit does come with some bed rails, and it does have a lot of neat features, like this little tie-down point right here. It's going to allow you to carry pretty much anything whenever you're going somewhere. You can either have this T-track accessory and fill it up with a bunch of different accessories on etrailer.com, or if you have those longer loads, this kit also comes with an adjustable load extender. And as you can see, our paddle board here is pretty long, so we did need to put this on our hitch.

It does also come with nice tie-down points as well. There is a bottle opener in there as well, Yakima likes to do that with all their products. This is going to be compatible with a two inch hitch receiver. It does come with an anti-rattle bolt, which basically takes out all that shake and play inside your hitch. You do have a nice safety pin there, and also when it comes to adjustability, you have four different pivot points for this main mast right here, so you can adjust that for basically whatever you plan on hauling. You also have two different holes on this inner tube.

I actually have it on the lowest setting now, but you can also extend that up for whatever you may need that height for.Compared to other load extenders these do come with the bars, which are going to give you full access to your bed. So you can literally fill your truck bed up completely and still be able to completely fill this setup up with. It goes up to 300 pounds capacity, so you can fit quite a bit of gear on top of here, on top of anything that might be in your bed. You can really use this kit for whatever you really need. If you didn't need the load extender, you could just put a cargo rack, a kayak rack, or literally one of our many different attachments on etrailer.com up here, and that's going to be able to take care of any of those type of needs.

But if you don't really need these rails and you just have a bunch of lumber or something you need to haul, you can use this load extender by itself as well. So it's very accountable for whatever situation you may need.So Yakima did think about a lot when designing these bars. You do have tie-down points right here, and also you don't have to take these caps off to put on your T-track accessories, which is very, very nice and convenient, especially when you're on the road, you want to spend as much time as you can enjoying your vacation. And it is also very easy to install, and they do have a lock on the inside of these, which is going to lock down the tensioning portion of this clamp. It does work very well with this bed, even with the drop in liner.

I didn't have any problems, and it was a really quick install. It is a very lightweight bar, especially since it has a 300 pound weight capacity, which honestly is going to fit your needs for most of the stuff you're going to put on here. It is a powder-coated design, so it's going to battle the rust and corrosion pretty well. It's going to last a really long time. So these rubber feet also have a nice little rubber insert on them, which is going to protect your bed from any scratches or abrasions. So this adjustable load extender is also aluminum, going to have a weight capacity of 300 pounds. It does have a nice powder coated finish, which is going to resist against rust and corrosion. In regards to stuff you might need to purchase along with this kit, if you don't have straps already, I suggest getting some of those. We do have them at etrailer.com, along with the locks for the end of your anti-rattle bolt. Our bars do lock, but we don't have any locking mechanism that comes in the kit down low, so if you did want to add that extra protection, go on etrailer.com and buy a little lock that goes on the other end of your anti-rattle bolt.So in regards to this whole kit, I'm thoroughly impressed. There is a lot of attachments that go on top of this. I didn't find anything that bugged me about any of it, but on top of all that, it was really easy to install. And I'm going to show you how easy it is right now. First we have to assemble the foot pack that comes with it, and what we got to do is we have to take this little bolt right here out to take this cap off, and then we can feed this onto there. So I'm going to start with this tool that was provided. Once that's out, I'm going to have to flip it over to get the bolt out, then your cap will come off. Then we can take our foot pack and loosen this little bolt in there, which then is going to extend this top track. And once that's done, you want to make sure that this is going to be facing out, so you just slide it into the track, done deal. You don't have to tighten this down yet, you want to make sure your distance is going to be similar on both sides, so we'll just repeat that process for the other side of these bars.So now we're going to go ahead and place this on our bed. We do have to have a minimum spread of 24 inches, but with this bed, we're not going to have an issue with that. Once we have it in place we can check and make sure it's nice and even. So I ended up measuring this bed and it's about a little under 63 inches. So there is some markings right here. So I have it set at 62 and a half, and 62 and a quarter, with these bumpers adding a little bit of Lang. That's pretty much going to be good, and we'll see if it works. Perfect. So now that those are set in place, you can go ahead and tighten down your foot packsSo now we can install our clamps, and the way that they fit in here, I do have it upside down, but there is some notches that these little arms are going to be able to fit into like so. So now that you guys know where that is, I'm going to flip it over, and now we can install. It does come with a little extra set for this top bolt just so it doesn't scratch your truck. Be sure to lift this lever up as it does create that little gap right here, allowing you to slide it in, tighten down this bolt. Once you feel a little bit of tension, then you can go ahead and click that down. It does come with a lock, so you can actually lock these arms down to lock this frack into place. And now we can complete this install by installing the other clamp. So there really isn't a lot involved when it goes to putting this on. You literally just put in your hitch, put in the anti-rattle bolt, and then just adjust it to whatever you're hauling. It's just as simple as that. Put that in, and just tighten it down. Once you get it hand tightened, it does come with a tool which I do suggest tightening it down pretty tight with the tool, and be sure to give it a couple of shakes just to make sure all that plays out from the inside of the hitch. When that's all said and done, and you got all that shake and play out, you just got to replace this pin, then you're ready to hit the road.So there is another adjustment that's a little higher than this, it's going to be completely vertical, but I'm going to show you how far it actually tilts back. And for this pickup truck, for example, with it tilted all the way back, you can still lower your tailgate, sit on the tailgate, or even have this down and have a bunch of lumber underneath, and then have another set of stuff on top of your rails. Really, you could do anything with this kit. And once all that's adjusted properly for whatever you may be hauling, you can go ahead and start loading it up. So once you have your load properly tied down, you're ready to hit the road. And that's going to do it for our look at the Yakima BedRock HD truck bed rack..

  • Carrying a Canoe with a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Regular Cab
If you have the regular cab on your 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 then the two crossbars of a roof rack system will not be able to sit far away enough from each other to properly support your canoe. That is why you only saw the Yakima BedRock HD # Y01160-59 in the fit guide for roof racks. You can go with the BedRock HD, but if you plan on using the bed of your truck for gear then I have some other solutions for you. If you're not concerned with the looks go with the Malone Axis # MPG907. It has more ground clearance in it's lowest setting but it's width is only adjustable from 24 inches to 48 inches so it may not be wide enough for your application. The Erickson # EM07605 has a 51 inch width so be sure to measure your kayaks width to see which...
