How Can I Carry More with My Enclosed Trailer?

If you've ever tried loading ladders in your trailer, you know how cramped it gets. You have to move everything around just to make the long cargo fit. It's a pain when you only have so much real estate to work with in your trailer. This rack installs to the top of your trailer and gives ladders, pipe, and lumber a secure spot overhead. Instead of dealing with a crowded mess, everything will feel more organized and ready for the job.

How Does This Rack Install on My Trailer?

You don't need custom brackets or a full weekend to get it mounted. The rack adjusts to fit trailers between 6' and 8-1/2' wide and bolts directly to the top rails. However, you will have to drill holes into the bracket on the ladder rack to mount it. Once installed, it stays solid on the road. It's built from lightweight aluminum, so it doesn't add extra weight to the top of your trailer that a steel rack would. Plus, it'll hold up against corrosion year round.

  • Will The P&F Aluminum Ladder Rack Rust And Corrode Like Steel?
Hi Sharon - good news: the ladder rack from P&F # PF79VR is still milled aluminum underneath, so you don’t have the rust issues you’d see with a steel rack. The black finish is powder coat applied after manufacturing. That’s why you’ll notice small holes in the mounting brackets; those are just the factory hang points used during painting, not mounting holes. I think you'll really like this upgrade over the old rusty steel ladder rack you had. What do you plan on putting on top? It's not...

  • Aluminum Ladder Rack / Roof Rack For Enclosed Trailer That Is 8-1/2' Wide
Absolutely, Devin - both the P&F Ladder racks like silver # PF69VR and black # PF79VR are designed specifically to span 6 ft up to 8-1/2 ft. Running it at max width doesn’t reduce stability, because the uprights support the crossbars on a full 6 inch × 2 inch mounting bracket that attaches directly to your trailer’s rail. As long as you’re drilling through solid framing - not just the skin - it’ll stay solid even at full width. If you’re carrying something long like extension ladders...

  • Can P&F Ladder Rack Screw Onto Top Rail 1-1/2" Tall Of 2024 Mirage Trailer 7x14
Randy - the P&F Ladder Rack for enclosed trailers # PF79VR will work fine on that rail. The mounting pad is 6 inch wide × 2 inch tall, so it gives you a big, flat footprint even if your trailer’s rail is on the shorter side. The bracket doesn’t rely on the rail’s full height - you simply drill through the pad and into whatever structure is behind your top rail steel tube, aluminum tube, or a reinforced header. Just be sure you’re anchoring through solid framing and not just the skin. Since...

  • How To Add Ladder Rack On Cargo Trailer Roof Without Rain Gutters
Manuel, great question, but no you don't need rain gutters. Unlike older ladder racks that clamp to rain gutters, the # PF69VR (silver) and # PF79VR (black) bolt directly to your top rails roof. Each mounting bracket gives you a 2 inch × 6 inch flat pad to drill through, with the upright welded 2 inches inboard so the load sits nicely centered on your rail. No gutters needed - just line up that bracket on your rail, drill your holes, and bolt through using hardware that matches your trailer’s...

  • Does Ladder Rack On Enclosed Trailer Use Self Tapping Screws Or Bolts With Nuts On Inside Wall?
Angela - good question, and the answer depends on your trailer’s rail construction. Most enclosed trailers have a steel or aluminum header tube at the top of the wall. When that’s the case, the common method and the hardware most racks include is self-tapping screws drilled straight into that header - no interior access required. If your trailer does allow access behind the header, bolts with washers or a backing plate are even better. But many trailers don’t provide access, which is why...

  • Can P&F Aluminum Ladder Racks Hold 2 Ladders And PVC Conduit On Top?
For sure, Brian - both the # PF79VR black and # PF69VR silver racks are designed specifically for ladders, pipe, lumber, and similar long cargo. They span 6 foot to 8-1/2 foot wide and provide a full-width support surface so your conduit and ladders can ride together without any issues. Just remember to secure the load with appropriate straps or stops since the racks do not include load-stop brackets. If you need some good ratchet straps, we sell the etrailer Ratchet Straps with Double-J...

  • Will The P&F Trailer Ladder Rack Clear A Roof Vent Fan On Enclosed Trailer?
Hey Kevin - the P&F Ladder Racks for enclosed trailers # PF79VR (black) or # PF69VR (silver) might clear your roof vent, but it really depends on your trailer’s roof height and the exact vent/fan you're running. The rack typically ends up sitting around 8 inches above the roof surface, but that can vary a bit depending on where the 6" × 2" mounting bracket lands on your trailer’s top rail. Since roof heights, curves, and vent housings all differ, the only way to know for sure is to compare...

  • Are The Two Holes On Bracket Of Ladder Rack For Enclosed Trailers PF79VR For Mounting Screws?
Ashley - those holes on the enclosed trailer ladder rack # PF79VR aren’t mounting holes at all. They’re factory paint-hang holes from when the aluminum uprights were hung and powder-coated. The actual mounting area is still that solid 6 inch × 2 inch pad, which is supposed to be drilled however you need to do so, so that it matches your trailer’s framing. You’ll drill your mounting pattern yourself - that’s how PandF accommodates different trailer brands, rail sizes, and wall thicknesses. If...

  • Can I Trim The Aluminum Ladder Rack For Enclosed Trailers?
Mauro - the P&F Ladder Rack for enclosed trailer roof # PF79VR isn’t designed to be trimmed, especially not at the base. The bottom 6 inch × 2 inch mounting bracket shouldn't be cut, since that’s the structural contact point with your trailer’s rail. If you had to do so, you'd be on your own for a DIY situation. If you were talking about trimming the top section, I guess you could do that at your own discretion, but it's still not recommended by P&F or us at etrailer. What exactly was...

  • Can I Install A Ladder Rack On Roof Of A 2019 Haulmark Enclosed Trailer? Roof Rail Is Curved
Justin, the P&F Ladder Rack for enclosed trailers # PF79VR mounts to your trailer’s top side rail, not the curved roof skin, and the rail on Haulmark trailers is straight even when the roof itself has a curve. The rack’s 6inch × 2inch flat mounting pad gives you plenty of contact area, and you’ll drill your holes exactly where the trailer’s header is located. Just make sure your screws or bolts hit solid structure and not just the aluminum skin - that’s the key with any enclosed-trailer...
