Pop-In Ball

Designed especially for your newer GM Heavy Duty, this under-bed gooseneck hitch provides superior towing capability along with a variety of unique features. The included Pop-In ball uses an integrated, easy-to-access lever to activate the ball-bearing locking system, securing the ball in the hitch. Quickly remove the ball using the same lever and get absolute, uninhibited use of your truck bed. Because this hitch installs in Reese's Elite Series under-bed rails, all that you will be left with upon removal of the ball and safety chain loops are the ball hole and the small Power Puck cavities in your truck-bed floor - no rails, no bolts. And the included rails also fit Reese Elite Series and Signature Series fifth-wheel hitches (sold separately) for ultimate towing versatility.

Video Transcript for Reese Elite Series Under-Bed Gooseneck Hitch Installation - 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Today in our 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD we'll be having a look at and installing the Reese Elite Series Under-Bed Gooseneck Complete Hitch, Part Number RP30158-68. Here's what our Under-Bed Gooseneck and Fifth Wheel System looks like installed. Now what sets this system apart from other systems on the market is that this basically turns your truck from a non-factory prep package to a factory prep package. And what that means is if you had bought a truck off the lot that had the factory prep package installed, you would have these four pucks right here to drop in a Fifth Wheel or a Fifth Wheel slider into them. In the middle you would have your standard 2 5/16 Gooseneck ball that you can install into place for your Gooseneck trailer. If you didn't have the factory prep package on your truck when you bought it this basically converts it to it so you have the cleanest look and the most ease of use when you're using it to tow a Fifth Wheel or a Gooseneck trailer. The reason you want this particular system over others on the market is it does give you the versatility to tow a Gooseneck or a Fifth Wheel trailer, but yet gives you the cleanest look possible while making sure you still have your maximum amount of bed space available to you so when you're not towing a trailer, if you need to use your bed for hauling construction supplies, moving around gravel or rocks or anything of that nature, you still have the maximum amount of room. Everything installed in the system is mounted underneath the bed of the truck so it doesn't take up any of your bed space at all. Now when you're not towing a Fifth Wheel trailer, you can cover up the pucks with the included plugs.

This will keep any dirt and debris from entering them. And when you're not towing your Gooseneck trailer, there is a plug included that covers up that hole. This gives you a nice, clean look and will keep anything inside your bed from leaving the bed, jamming up inside the pucks. Now this system is designed to work with the Reese Elite Fifth Wheel or Fifth Wheel slider and some others on the market as well. Some BMW products will work with the system. Now when we want to tow a Gooseneck trailer, we can simply remove our plug here, take our Gooseneck ball, lift up right here, it pulls out the ball bearings, drops down, release it and it locks into place.

This Gooseneck ball is a standard 2-5/16" ball. Now when our Gooseneck ball's in place, this ball supports up to 6,250 pounds of vertical load limit forcing down and 25,000 max gross trailer weight rating, which is the amount you can pull. You want to consult with the owner's manual of your truck and not exceed the limits of what the truck is rated for though. What's really nice about this ball is how easy it is to put in and take out. You don't need to get out of the truck to pull a handle in your wheel well. Just simply lift up here on the latch, twist it out of the way, pull straight up.

Want to put it back in, strap it back down, twist it and it locks into place. Now when we're towing our Gooseneck trailer and we need to have a place to hook up our safety chains, we have these nice drop-ins here that go in our pucks. So you remove your cap, wind our tab on up, twist it and then our latch will lock into place. To remove it, you just lift up on the latch and twist it on out. With both those in place, we now have two safety chain attachments to hook up our safety chains for our Gooseneck. We also have this nice drawstring bag here that's included with it.

You can use this to store your Gooseneck ball and your safety chain attachment points in so you don't have to worry about losing them. They'll be contained in one spot. To begin the installation of our Under-bed Gooseneck and Fifth Wheel System, we need to make a couple of measurement to determine where we'll be drilling in the bed. When we make these measurements, you want to make sure you measure from the end of the bed itself and not the end of the tailgate, because if you make the measurements from the tailgate, your measurements are going to be way off. Now you'll find all these measurements in the instructions according to your bed length. I will start by making a small pilot hole at all five of our holes. Okay, the hole for our Gooseneck ball, we'll use a 3-1/2" hole saw on, and the four holes for our pucks we use a 3-1/4". I'll do our Gooseneck one here first. Okay, now I'll do our four holes for the pucks. It's a really good idea to take some spray paint, touch-up paint, clear coat, whatever you have to go along the exposed metal of the holes that we just cut. This way we don't have to worry about any rust forming later on down the road. Since our truck has a spray in-bed liner we just use black to match it, pretty simple. So we'll just spray paint along the edges till they're covered up. This will help prevent any rust in the future. I went ahead and removed both of our rear wheels and our spare tire to give us a little bit more room to work and a little bit more room for you to see what's going on. You don't have to do this, but it does make your life a little bit easier. Both of our wheel wells we'll find two T-15 torque screws. We're going to remove these because we'll need to peel back and wheel liner a little bit later to torque some bolts. On our passenger side frame rails, we have two bolts that are 13mm. These hold our heat shield in place. We'll need to remove the heat shield to install our Gooseneck so we'll loosen these bolts on up, remove them. There are two more underneath the vehicle, but these are the easiest way to get to these two. Here's a close look at the bolts, you'll know what bolt you're removing. All four of the bolts that hold the heat shield in place are exactly the same. Our third bolt that we have is right above this cross member here where our spare tire mechanism bolts to. And our fourth one is located on the cross member just in front of this one. Now with all four of our bolts removed, we can take our heat shield, slide it out, slide it on down and remove it. We will not be reinstalling it. Now we need to remove all four of the bed to frame bolts on our passenger side of the truck. Our first one is located just forward of the cross tube for our factory hitch through that hole. These are 18mm bolts so I'll go ahead and remove that one now. We'll work our way forward. Our next one is located above our Lee Spring stack, just forward of our Lee Spring hanger at the very back of the truck. Then we have another one behind our front Lee Spring mount. And then one just in front of it. Now we need to loosen these bolts on the driver side of the truck and not remove them. Now we need to raise the bed partially on our passenger side in order to slide our rails into place. Now you can do this a couple different ways. You can have someone just lift up at the wheel well, but to make life easier you can actually use something to pry up on the bed like a block of wood or a long metal pry bar. It's not going to damage the bed. And when you push down on it it lifts up real easily. It's a lot easier than just lifting up on the bed by hand. Now when we have our bed lifted up, we will slide our rails in position directly under the holes that we drilled. For front rail and the back rail we'll go and place directly under these holes. Now when we slide the rails in position we want to make sure these large holes here face up towards the bed. These are where our pucks will reside. And the bottom section here has our threaded weld nuts that we can secure our mounting hardware to. Okay, now we're prying up on it and we'll slide our rails in position. There's one and now we'll get the other one in place. Okay, now we lower the bed back down. We can reinstall our bed bolts on the passenger side and tighten back the ones on the driver's side. This is our bracket that we'll bolt our rails to the frame of the truck. These vertical slots go towards the frame. The horizontal slots go towards the rails. You'll notice that this vertical slot has less space towards the end of the rail, that goes towards the front of the truck. We will secure these to the rails using a 3/4" bolt and a conical tooth washer. The teeth of the washer face away from the bolt head towards our bracket. It'll screw into our rail via this nut plate. We'll peel back our liner here. That's why we removed our screws so we could do that. And we'll slide our nut plate inside, same for the other side of the rail. We'll slide the other nut plate in position in the back rail and we'll loosely bolt our bracket to our rails. Now we use an 1-1/8" socket on the ratchet and slowly tighten up these bolts just a little bit so our slot her lines up fully with the hole in the frame. This will make it easier to get our hardware in place to secure it to the frame. We'll repeat the same process on the driver's side of the truck, the exact same way. Now we'll take our pull wire and stick it through our bracket and the hole in the frame. Now right above our gel 00:11:43 stop and our frame we'll find a hole and that is where our pull wire will come through, just like that. We'll take one of our spacer plates, slide it onto the wire, drop it down in the frame and we'll thread on one of our carriage bolts onto the pull wire and push it into the frame as well. Now we'll come pull it through on the outside. Here's a tech tip for you. If you have a flathead screwdriver you could help get it through, pull it on a little bit easier. Now we'll remove our pull wire, place on our conical tooth washer with the teeth facing the bracket and we'll thread on our nut. Sometimes you can use your flathead screwdriver to help hold the bolts still, so you don't worry about pushing the bolt into the frame. Now we'll do the same for our back bolt. Now that we've got the passenger side done, we'll repeat the same process for the driver side. Now this is the center section for our Gooseneck ball. You'll notice that it's offset. The side here where it's closest to the bolts will go towards the front of the truck. We'll bolt this to our rails using these bolts here with conical tooth washers, again, the teeth face away from the bolt heads. Now this center section's fairly heavy, so you'll want an extra set of hands to raise it in position while you raise it up and secure it with the hardware. Once you have two bolts started it is a lot easier to get the other two to start. Now we will install our puck system. Our puck system is what we will use to install a Fifth Wheel into our bed of our truck. It utilizes these pucks right here. We have a trim ring, a 3/8 headed Allen bolt here, flat washer and a lock washer. We'll drop the flat washer down first, place the trim ring over the hole, tack our puck, drop it down in the hole, drop down our lock washer, drop down the bolt. Get the bolt started a few turns by hand here first, make sure it's not going to cross-thread or anything like that. I'll snug it down. We'll repeat the same process for the other three. Now that we have all of our pucks tightened down, we'll now torque them to the specification found in the instructions. We'll now snug down the bolts that hold our rails to our frame bracket using an 1-1/8" socket. Now we use a 15/16" socket and snug down our frame brackets to the frame. Now we use our 1-1/8" socket and tighten the bolts for our center section. Now we torque all of our hardware to the amounts specified in the instructions. Here now with all our hardware torqued down, we can reinstall our two screws that held our fender liner in place. That completes our look at and installation of the Reese Elite Series Under-Bed Gooseneck Complete Hitch, Part Number RP30158-68 on our 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD.

I bought this because of the low profile and how the Reese Elite 5th wheel hitch connects in. Also it went great with my Andersen 5th wheel hitch. Would highly recommend it. 483428

Wanted to leave a message about all my experiences with etrailer. I purchased a new Ford F-350 Super Duty in August and wanted a lot of aftermarket items for it. I accidentally found etrailer on the internet while searching. They have everything I was looking for. Their pricing was very competitive with free shipping on a lot of items. The last item purchased was a Reese gooseneck ball and safety chain hookup. It’s a great item, very easy to install and shipped the next day. I’m very pleased with etrailer. 571867

Excellent hitch works perfectly pulls great the only thing I can tell you is don't let the locking pin dangle when not in use because it will beat the pint off the side of the hitch. this isn't the hitches fault its my fault 571155

Great hitch to convert your Reece elite puck system to a gooseneck. Plastic cover is pointless and doesn’t stay down, but it’s not needed anyway. 660919

Great hitch. Very heavy and sturdy. Fits my 2016 F350 with factory puck system like a glove. Very easy drop into pucks and lock into place. The hitch separates into two pieces to make it able to be installed or removed by one person, but two are better. We tow a 16,00 pound 5th wheel with this hitch. 539826

Review from a similar Reese Elite Series in Gooseneck

Item was received well packaged. All parts were received as expected. I wish I would have taken pictures of box when it was received or as I installed it on my 2015 F250 but rest assured it fit into my Ford with the 5th wheel prep package quite easily. Directions were adequate. My only issue was I did not know if the pre-asembly of the base was torqued correctly. There was no mention of it in the packaging and I do not own a torque wrench so it would have been comforting to know that it was done properly before shipment. However it appeared to be okay and I had no issues towing my 5th wheel the 15 miles from the dealership to my home. Also there is no mention prior to ordering that you need lithium grease to properly lube the moving parts. Make sure you have on hand prior to assembly. Overall, excellent product and I am definitely please with it and highly recommend it. 203214

I am thoroughly pleased with my purchase one year ago of this hitch. We have towed our 32 crusader across the country and back via different routes with no issues. I have read where others find it heavy to lift in and out of the truck bed. I would too except I remove the hitch plate to lighten the load so that I am lifting two relatively lite pieces instead of one heavy piece. We take the 5th wheel out on the road about every two months so I am happy with how I can separate the two in order to lift them in or out of the truck bed.Extremely easy to install, less than 5 minutes. I am totally satisfied with this product.

Review from a similar Reese Elite Series in Gooseneck

My Reese Elite 5th wheel hitch arrived UPS. 143lbs and used a hand dolly to take off the truck and wheel to my garage. Came packaged ok. Pre-assembled and everything was included. Read the Manual, which for older people helps, showing lube and parts, install info etc...referring back to the manual/instructions. Used a wooden table(same height as my tailgate) to wheel it right up to the gate and slid the hitch on a piece of cardboard(from the box) into the position of the puck system. Moving the base first then the hitch plate next. The hitch install was simple and easy. Did not need any help. I did call customer service and made a slight 1/4 turn adjustment to two legs for a tighter fit. There again referring to the manual/instructions provided with the hitch. Very pleased with the hitch over all. It served its purpose and I believe will give us many years of service. We pull a 5th wheel gvwr of 11769lbs and completed over 1200 miles of safe towing. Pleased with my purchase. Thank you. 159385

Review from a similar Reese Elite Series in Gooseneck

I have a 2016 Ford F250. My truck didn't come installed with any hitch equipment other than the stock bumper hitch. I insulted Reese Elite Series rails under the bed and have pulled my 5th wheel just fine since. Recently, I purchased a new 5th wheel trailer and the dealer tossed in an Andersen Ultimate Hitch 2. The only problem is that my truck hasn't been equipped with a gooseneck hitch. This product solves that problem, integrates with my current setup, and is incredibly easy to install. Can't wait to test it out on the road this weekend. Here's my current setup: 2016 Ford F250 Air Lift Air Ride System with compressor Reese Elite Rails with Gooseneck Hitch Kit 448210

So far so good. The only problem was finding safety chain hooks that fit the safety hookups. I gave up and used heavy duty d-rings instead.

Review from a similar Reese Elite Series in Gooseneck

I recently purchased a 2016 Ram 3500 with 5th wheel tow package already present on truck. I wanted an additional goose neck product and looked at various suppliers online and found etrailer products offered for sale. After to speaking with Heather who answered all my questions as well as reviewed feedback from customers I chose to go with the Reese gooseneck kit. I received the product within the shipping date provided to me and I went out to install it. It took me all of 3 mins to install with no issues. I did my best to remove, shake and couldn't get them to budge. It took me a total of 5 mins to remove the parts and storing them back under the rear seat. The parts fit perfect, look great as well as we're the cheapest price I could find. Their online video is all the install instructions you need! I will definitely use etrailer in the future. Thanks Heather! 296158

Review from a similar Reese Elite Series in Gooseneck

I have owned B&W, Curt and Reese Hitches for 5th wheel trailers. When I recently purchased a toy hauler I needed a heavy duty hitch for the 20,000# load. I decided to spend the extra money and get the Reese because of previous good experience and fitting the installed pucks in my F350. The Reese felt very light when I unpacked it. The parts are all made in China or Mexico. Assembly and installation took 25 min. The release mechanism feels cheap. It is difficult to make sure the pin is fully seated in the hitch. 2x it looked seated and I was able to install the locking pin and the trailer came out of the hitch! I always do a test pull in forward and reverse before pulling out onto the road. First time it came out I caught it on the test pull, second time it looked good w the test pull but 30' down the driveway it came out and crushed my bedside and tailgate. I would recommend the B &W or Curt before buying the more expensive but inferior Reese. 397426

Review from a similar Reese Elite Series in Gooseneck

Will try to keep this as real as it gets out there. 2015 F250 XLT Crew Cab 8' Bed Ordered the Reese Elite Gooseneck and Barger 90 degree wiring harness. Received the gooseneck hitch and harness quickly. Free shipping got here in two days. Item came in two boxes. The rails were poorly packaged. Box was basically open and beat to hell, leaving markings on the rails' paint. Didn't bother me, but might others. The pucks were loose in the box and were lucky they did not fall out. The second box with the ball, ball mount, harness and misc. hardware was packed so well it took about 5 minutes to take off all the staples and then each product was individually boxed inside. Wish they would treat the rail box with the same care. Instructions are ok. Used the online install video instead. The video is slightly simplified as getting the nuts on the bolts is a slight challenge for a one man install. I was able to do the entire installation by myself with the exception of the four rail-to-frame bolts. Getting these snugged up to the point of being able to torque took two people simply because the nuts are hidden on the backside of the rail...particularly the driver-side front...which is slightly behind the gas tank, but still accessible. My F250 is factory lifted 4-5" so I did not have to remove the rear wheels, nor did I have to remove the spare tire or heat shield. Lower trucks will need the rear wheels pulled. Installing the ball mounting plate took some doing. Got one bolt on then decided to actually install the ball into the plate from above pulling the plate tight below. I used vice grips to basically keep the plate mounted tight rather than trying to lift it from underneath with one had and bolt it with the other. For me the most time consuming part of the project was getting the darned bed bolts off to lift the right side. Broke the T50 bit they supplied and then two others. Finally gave up and ground off two of the remaining bolts...and ordered replacements. Tip for those doing this on their own, you may want to spray the bolts from under with PB Blaster the day before you intend to install. I forgot and the issue was likely that the bolts were rusted. The wiring harness was a breeze, although I wish a shorter version was available. (Perhaps I missed it). Had to loop/zip tie about 2-3' under the bed. Connecting between the factory connectors did require me to pull the mounting plate. Was a bit tight to just slip the new connector in. Also, working the harness thru the hole in the bed side was a bit tight. Install probably took 10 minutes after getting the holes drilled. Total install time for this slightly skilled guy was about 3-1/2 hours...after the bed bolts fiasco. Oh...and did it all with a cast on the left arm. Ha! Now to see how she tows! 430852

The Reese Elite series hitch # RP30142 you currently are using is not compatible with the factory puck system on the 2020 GMC 3500. The Reese Elite is a very specialized hitch, in that it will only mount a rail kit or underbed kit that is specifically designed for the Elite Series hitches. From what I understand, there are some slight differences in the frames between the 2015-2019 versions of the GMC 3500 and the 2020 version. So, your # RP30158-68 underbed kit that is confirmed to...

This complete kit can be broken down into the underbed rails with part # RP30868 and the head unit kit with # RP30158. • How To Add Pucks To A 2019 Chevy Silverado 2500 For Use With PullRite SuperGlide
The only puck system we offer for your 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 is the Elite Series Under-Bed Gooseneck Complete Hitch part # RP30158-68. This will then give you the same puck spacing as the Ford factory prep package. Therefore, the PullRite SuperGlide 5th Wheel Hitch that you have will need to have the feet for a Ford factory prep package. The Chevy factory prep package cannot be obtained aftermarket and I do not believe the dealer offers this for purchase separately therefore...

For your 2018 GMC 2500HD without factory prep puck system, I recommend adding one using the Reese Elite Series Under-Bed Gooseneck Complete Hitch # RP30158-68. This will give you pucks that look and function just like the factory yet the 5th wheel pucks will be in slightly different location/position than the factory kit. It is designed for using the Reese Elite Series Underbed Rail Adapter for Standard 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches - 20,000 lbs # RP30156 to give you the industry standard...

I recommend checking out the Reese Elite Series # RP30144, which is a sliding hitch with an 18,000 lb towing capacity and a 9 inch funnel and 4-way pivoting head to make coupling an easier process. It also offers a 2 inch height adjustment and even comes with a wiring harness and 7-way connector. I've added links to video reviews...

Yes, the Reese Elite Series Under-Bed Gooseneck Hitch # RP30158-68 referenced in your question will mount perfectly to the frame rails of your 2019 Chevy Silverado 3500HD dually with the 8 foot bed. The Elite Series Under-Bed Gooseneck Complete Hitch # RP30158-68 was made specifically for GM trucks, uses a pop-in ball, and allows for the use of a fifth-wheel hitch that fits right into the puck system, such as the Reese Elite Series # RP30142 I have added links to video reviews of these products for you as well as a help article on the Reese kit...

On short bed models, it will be 42-1/2 inches. I have included a link to the installation instructions for this hitch that contain the measurements listed above along with many others that you may find useful.

GM stopped using the C/K name after the 2000 model year, so I am assuming you are speaking of a 2013 Silverado 3500 Dually. According to my contact in the tech services department at Reese, the Elite Series Under-Bed Gooseneck Rail and Hitch Kit you referenced, part # RP30158-68 is indeed compatible with your 2013 Silverado 3500 Series Dually Diesel. • How Much will Elite Series Under-Bed Gooseneck # RP30158-68 Extend into Bed of 2012 Silverado 3500
I spoke with my contact at Reese regarding your question. He tells me that housing around the socket for the gooseneck ball will essentially be flush if your bed has a spray-in bed liner. If you do not have a spray-in liner, the housing will extend about 3/16 to 1/4 inch above the bed. Keep in mind that the pucks for the Elite fifth wheel hitch will extend about 1/2 inch into the bed.

Correct, the B&W Companion 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch part # BWRVK3500 is not compatible with rotating pin boxes like the MORryde Orbital Pin Box. The reason for this is that the singular connection point is not sufficient for the additional stress caused by the rotating pin box.
